Things I remember saying to "get back" to reality
    - "Don't emotionally react to daydreamings"
    - "Don't argue to daydreamings"
    - "Don't justify to daydreamings"
    - "Nothing about that is happening"

I'm still a maladaptive daydreamer and i have been daydreaming for about 9 years now. Yep, it definitely did ruined my life. Even after daydreaming i start to feel bad about myself because i've always think that "i could've spend my time doing x instead of just daydreaming". Rn i'm trying different various methods to try to get rid of it. Of course i can't completely erase my addiction but i can at least try to control. Thanks for sharing your experience

20 years of maladaptive daydreaming here. Different dreams, and it's really hard to stop because I still don't know what triggers me. Never needed headphones or other external tools, so I cannot get rid of any. It all started when I was 7, to cope with insomnia, but now it can happen out of nowhere and I just cannot be aware of the fact that it is happening, up to being several hours into the daydream before realizing. I could even function on an "autopilot" in school, at work, or social settings, while daydreaming.
I wouldn't say I didn't grow as a person, though. I've used the daydream to simulate therapy sessions, argue with people I know in real life (to then let out a gentler and more realistic complain, or to keep from reaching out to dysfunctional people I cut from my life), I've practiced foreign languages, I've rehersed how to react in difficult situations. I used it as a social gym. The only problem is that sometimes I find myself remembering that I told someone I know something, but it happened in the daydream instead. And I lose a lot of time, hours and hours on end, on a daily basis.

Hi!! Thank you for posting this video, every time I see a content about maladaptive daydreaming i feel so understood.
I also started having md when I was around 12 years old, it happened casually when I started listening to music imagining dreams.
As time passed it became an addiction and a way to comfort myself when bad things happened.
In the previous years I tried a lot of times to stop myself from repeating this pattern, but I didn’t succeed. Right now I’m trying again to quit it and I hope that I will be able to free myself from this addiction since I’m older.
Probably the most sad thing about maladaptive daydreaming is that it makes you dissociate from reality, and you start to hate you life because it’s so different from the daydreams where you are loved, celebrated and respected.
I hope that everyone that has md can succeed in free themselves from it. Forgive yourself for the years you spent “dreaming”, try to learn to finally love your life( do things that inspire you and that you love), cherish the little moments and don’t hate yourself if you fall into the trap of the daydream again( take it step by step).
I’m so proud of everyone that has md, but hasn’t told anyone because the are ashamed of it or fear of judgement, but they are trying to live life normally.
Remember you can free yourself just like any type of addiction.
The solution is to actually do the things that you wanna do, be with who you wanna be and especially be yourself.

Write down whatever you are planning on dreaming about(have a book where you can write down your thoughts the moment you feel the need to imagine start writing)

I spent 14 years lost in maladaptive daydreaming. Learning late that a lot ppl share this same struggle which is eye-opening, but it’s heartbreaking to think of all the time I wasted living in a fantasy instead of the real world.

Thank you so much for this video ! You can't imagine how much it means to many of us. Btw I understand that daydreaming makes you guys upset because you feel like you wasted your life, but don't worry too much ! It's a chapter. Not the full story. Life isn't made for being perfect, it's made for growing and you can't grow without making mistakes. It is already a great step to be conscious that daydreaming isn't healthy for you. Keep in mind that it is an addiction, and as every addiction like alcohol or cigarette, it requires a lot of courage to free yourself from it. But when you are free you'll live your life at its fullest, you'll make up for the lost time, acheive all of your dreams, and become the best version of yourself. Because this maladaptive daydreaming era will have taught you the importance of living in the moment. So go take action NOW ! Love you all X3

It's true. Im 34. I've spent at least 14 - 22 yrs doing this. Get out while you can. It's not so fun when it takes over your life. And it will if you don't see boundaries on it. It's like an addiction. My life sucks so much that I don't care anymore and prefer it over reality now. But if you can avoid that, do it.

We have all done bad things, lied, and insulted... All of this is not pleasing to God. We are distanced from the perfect God because of our actions, but God loves us and sent His son Jesus, who is the Son of God. Jesus Christ was rejected by people who considered Him a liar and died on the cross. But on the third day, God raised Him to show that God pays the price for our sins.
If you do not accept Jesus Christ as the payment for your sins, you will have to pay the price with your actions. Every person is a sinner, and no one has a life free of sin. The Bible tells us that we have all sinned: Romans 6:23 [23] For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus.
Jesus Christ is the only payment for our sins, so accept what He has done for you. Jesus Christ is our first love.
