I love how this dude shows simple glimpses into his adventures without over exaggerating anything or boasting about his skills. Just a normal dude that likes to get out and politely does his thing while pushing a lot of boundaries. Plus he sometimes brings Crazy Neighbor who seems to be a chill old dude that’s in it for not much else except hanging out with his buddy while enjoying the adventure. This is as wholesome and real as it gets in the world of friends enjoying themselves and not harming anyone or anything.

There is something wonderfully hapless about Steve's adventures. Waking up in a solar powered boat, in the shade. Twice. Taking a flame thrower to soaking driftwood, walking down the middle of a river towing his own boat, describing people waving to him as 'stressful'. It's all so natural, so real, and so very relaxing to watch.
I love seeing how Crazy Neighbor looks at Steve whenever he talks, like you can really see him listening and just having such a good time being with his friend. I really get a kick out of seeing these two dudes interact and just being so genuine to each other. Makes a fella feel nice on the inside. Just got to the part where Crazy Neighbor said he caught one big fish and two rocks. Absolute legend.

Steve I love to watch the transition that took place between the young man who quit his job and hated society and was living in a van seemingly a little angry at the world, to the mature man who is just easy-going and enjoying life and produces wholesome good videos of his adventures. I like it that crazy neighbor is more visible in this video and is interacting and talking more, he just seems like a cool OK dude. I like you’re stealth camping videos very much, but I miss that you have someone there to interact with. This homemade pontoon boat is the bomb and I really enjoyed this video!

I just found Steve today & after binging my thought was, while cooking lunch, is that Steve is helping ME believe in society again & ready to get back out there. So if his travels in life lead him to where he is today, I'm grateful. We all have a past that might not be pretty to look at... This is the kind of world we should live in where people are free to have these crazy adventures without stressing about how they will make enough money to survive. I'm thankful YT has allowed some people this freedom already and bitcoin will do the same for the rest of us who you won't see on YT. I don't love food, I wish it wouldn't exist and humans could survive without eating at all. I get headpain everytime I eat, my heart is racing and I feel tired... I don't like food even if it tastes good
@@RequiemDream Sounds like you may have a condition known as Avoidant / Restrictive / Food / Intake / Disorder or ARFID. Mostly common in children but can continue throughout adulthood. It may be helpful to look into it.

God gave us love and we should share it. there is no past there is no future everything is now and we have no choice other than finding ourselves within the now with the help of Faith in our Creator. each of us is created uniquely and there is always someone who is better at some things than the other and we all have values. i do not know if it helps you or if you are against the idea that God created us for a reason and that the world is the way it is, for we have to go through fire to know what is important and constant and we need to do it to test our strength or to acknowledge our weaknesses. wish you well and at least you still have your parents by your side. if a bird does not need to worry about getting food tomorrow then why should we? God will care for us if we humbly accept being his sheep.
I was in your situation from ages 13-17. I've never had any mental conditions so I'm probably no help there, but I do know what it's like to live in hotel rooms and be in a new town 8+ hours away from the previous one every 6 months, and honestly that wasn't the worst of it. The feeling of having no control was nearly unbearable. I found that once I accepted there were certain things I couldn't control I felt much better. I started to focus on things I could control and find productive things to do. I don't mean productive in the sense of doing work necessarily but just anything that would make me or someone else happy. Bring as much positive energy into the world as you can and the world will give it back to you ten fold. Focus on anything good in your situation. Focus on things you can control. Focus on what you can do for yourself and the ones you care about. Even if it's small. Anything you can do to keep busy and help yourself and others is a step in the right direction. Also remember this isn't forever. Eventually you will be out on your own and hopefully you will have learned as much as you can from your current situation so that as an adult you aren't living in the same conditions. I'm honestly grateful for what I went through as a teen. I feel unbreakable. Of course I feel negative emotions and that's completely normal. But I've learned that there is nothing I can't work through. You will too. You are unbreakable. No one and nothing will ever be able to prevent you from living a full happy life. Ever.
Just found this channel. I’m about a dozen videos in and I’ve already come to adore both Steve and “Crazy Neighbor.” A couple of genuinely good wholesome guys. I’d love to go on some adventures like this but my husband is an “indoor cat” so to speak. 😆 Gonna try camping on my own in a couple weeks. Wish me luck!

To make the tarps easier to manage- add broom handles (or PVC maybe for lighter weight) and roll them up and down. Then ya don't have to fully remove and replace daily! Loved getting to follow along on this river adventure..straight outta all of our childhood fantasies
My dad died inOctober. Being his one child who was into "stealthing it" and sleeping outdoors, I want to honor him with a trip out, alone, living off the land. This has been so therapeutic to watch you. I was so depressed but now I can distract myself and plan for an adventure to honor my dad. Thanx.

Can’t believe I just watched an 1hr 10min video and it seemed so short. I was wanting more😊. The adventure looked like a great time. Floating down the river and the only thing to worry about is getting stuck. My kind of get away from all the worlds problems. Loved it.

No doubt. The first video I watched of Steve's, was when he overnighted in the median of a freeway, ive been hooked since then. I got very excited when he posted this 1 hour 10 minute video. This is my 3rd time watching this video alone. I cant get enough of Steve's camping videos!

Agreed. My best friend passed away last December. This summer his brother and I took a three day canoe trip that was long over due. That was the kind of thing we did as kids.

Favorite destination? Why the fishing hole, of course. My dad rode. When he put those keys to my brand new Honda under the x-mass tree, what he really gave me was a life long love affair, and he knew it. Same thing with horses. At the end of the day...Ya gotta dance with the one who brung ya. Do the things that you love. It's good for you.

There is something about this trip that is so appealing. Travel involving almost no power source, no noise, just relax and enjoy the scenery pass by. Would like Steve to post the start and end point GPS coordinates so we can check out the trip on Google maps.

There are WAY to many youtubers "outdoorsmen" who are "expert" on everything, and yet don;t actually DO anything, except product reviews, and regurgitating tired old "woodsman's hacks" from there basment studio. Steve on the other hand claims NOT to be an expert on any camping, and woodsman's skils .. yet gets out and does EVERYTHING !!!

Not if the boat is moving with the water. To the boat it would appear to be still or nearly still water and a rudder wouldn't be effective. Speaking of still water, I need to go see what's in the liquor locker. A trip to the alphabet store might be in order.
@@MrNight-dg1ug There is a very good reason they don't put boat and ship rudders in the front. If you put the center of effort in front of the center of mass it is an unstable configuration. That's why rocket fins aren't in front. Yes, I'm aware this isn't a rocket, but the principle is exactly the same. Rudder has to be in the back and is only useful if the boat is moving through the water. If you are drifting the rudder has no effect. The speed through the water necessary for the rudder to work is called steerageway on ships.

Steve, I watched the whole video in one sitting and got an idea after about ten minutes to follow along with you guys on Google Earth! It was fun! I got to go camping with you guys by following landmarks using hills, houses and bridges! I could even tell when you docked for the last time at the Capilano boat launch just by looking at the big rock formations! What a trip! Can't wait for the next stealth camping trip!

Google Earth would have been epic for following along as they were traveling down stream! They missed another point- TH-camrs want their audience so engaged in what they’re doing that it keeps US CLICKING ON THEIR OTHER VIDEOS TOO! Just so you know they traveled south to north. I thought that info will help as I made the mistake of thinking it was the reverse. 13:56 As a geologist, that is super interesting to see the process of erosion so obviously. That bank could have been tens of feet (several meters) further out into the river channel. The raising and lowering of the water levels that you describe serves to speed this process up. I'm sure the farmer isn't happy with his land washing down the river along with his profits.

You asked for ideas for future trips. Did you consider filling those barrels with expanding foam? Closed-cell foam would mean they'd still float even if a rock tears a hole in the side of them and no more concerns about bringing an air pump to keep them inflated.
A friend of my mine recommended Steve's channel and I love this stuff! Growing up in Saskatchewan, I've explored the North Saskatchewan and South Saskatchewan river valleys but have never seen a DIY raft adventure on them. The raft is really cool and it's great to see that you can find all of the materials to build one of these at the local Canadian Tire. Keep the content coming, Steve! I think a time lapse camera (say a DashCam/ GoPro Hero) would be awesome for the front of the raft
When you beach your boat at night head straight in. Then tie off with 2 ropes, one rope tied at each corner from the stern (heading 45 degrees away from those back corners) to the shore. This will keep you stable from the current pushing you sideways and also keep your stern in the deepest water.
He actually reads comments, I commented about how much hair he had on his boondocking documentary 3 years ago today and got a heart. Glad he's in a place where he can comfortably do these things out of enjoyment instead of necessity.

In the future you can either add a rudder to keep your drift in the right direction. Or alternatively you could utilize what is called a drag line, it can be rope or chain. It acts similarly to the tail on a kite. But it is reeled out at the back end and simply allowed to drag along the bottom. Obviously it takes a sizable amount of rope depending on the thickness of the rope. It takes far less chain, again depending upon the thickness of the chain as to how much. For such a small craft I would start right around 30 feet of rope and maybe 15 feet of medium sized chain. One other method, which is a cost saver is to use a combination of rope and chain, dragging the chain attached to some rope ! Hope to see more of these sorts of adventures Steve !

I just found Steve today & after binging my thought was, while cooking lunch, is that Steve is helping ME believe in society again & ready to get back out there. So if his travels in life lead him to where he is today, I'm grateful. We all have a past that might not be pretty to look at...
This is the kind of world we should live in where people are free to have these crazy adventures without stressing about how they will make enough money to survive. I was in your situation from ages 13-17. I've never had any mental conditions so I'm probably no help there, but I do know what it's like to live in hotel rooms and be in a new town 8+ hours away from the previous one every 6 months, and honestly that wasn't the worst of it.
The feeling of having no control was nearly unbearable. I found that once I accepted there were certain things I couldn't control I felt much better. I started to focus on things I could control and find productive things to do. I don't mean productive in the sense of doing work necessarily but just anything that would make me or someone else happy. Bring as much positive energy into the world as you can and the world will give it back to you ten fold. Focus on anything good in your situation. Focus on things you can control. Focus on what you can do for yourself and the ones you care about. Even if it's small. Anything you can do to keep busy and help yourself and others is a step in the right direction.
Also remember this isn't forever. Eventually you will be out on your own and hopefully you will have learned as much as you can from your current situation so that as an adult you aren't living in the same conditions. I'm honestly grateful for what I went through as a teen. I feel unbreakable. Of course I feel negative emotions and that's completely normal. But I've learned that there is nothing I can't work through. You will too. You are unbreakable. No one and nothing will ever be able to prevent you from living a full happy life. Ever.

To make the tarps easier to manage- add broom handles (or PVC maybe for lighter weight) and roll them up and down. Then ya don't have to fully remove and replace daily! Loved getting to follow along on this river adventure..straight outta all of our childhood fantasies

Agreed. My best friend passed away last December. This summer his brother and I took a three day canoe trip that was long over due. That was the kind of thing we did as kids.

Favorite destination? Why the fishing hole, of course. My dad rode. When he put those keys to my brand new Honda under the x-mass tree, what he really gave me was a life long love affair, and he knew it. Same thing with horses. At the end of the day...Ya gotta dance with the one who brung ya. Do the things that you love. It's good for you.

There is something about this trip that is so appealing. Travel involving almost no power source, no noise, just relax and enjoy the scenery pass by. Would like Steve to post the start and end point GPS coordinates so we can check out the trip on Google maps.

Think about adding a rudder, when your drifting you could keep the bow pointed up stream.
Not if the boat is moving with the water. To the boat it would appear to be still or nearly still water and a rudder wouldn't be effective.
Speaking of still water, I need to go see what's in the liquor locker. A trip to the alphabet store might be in order.

@@MrNight-dg1ug There is a very good reason they don't put boat and ship rudders in the front. If you put the center of effort in front of the center of mass it is an unstable configuration. That's why rocket fins aren't in front. Yes, I'm aware this isn't a rocket, but the principle is exactly the same.
Rudder has to be in the back and is only useful if the boat is moving through the water. If you are drifting the rudder has no effect. The speed through the water necessary for the rudder to work is called steerageway on ships.

Steve, I watched the whole video in one sitting and got an idea after about ten minutes to follow along with you guys on Google Earth! It was fun! I got to go camping with you guys by following landmarks using hills, houses and bridges! I could even tell when you docked for the last time at the Capilano boat launch just by looking at the big rock formations! What a trip! Can't wait for the next stealth camping trip!

Google Earth would have been epic for following along as they were traveling down stream! I wish I would have read this comment before watching this video 😩. ~~ The people saying that by doing Google Earth to vicariously enjoy their journey is ’stalking them’ are being ridiculous. They missed another point- TH-camrs want their audience so engaged in what they’re doing that it keeps US CLICKING ON THEIR OTHER VIDEOS TOO! They understand that our time is ours to do with as we wish.. we can go elsewhere.. but to love their channel enough to keep viewing is not only complimentary- it’s monetarily valuable. Just so you know they traveled south to north. I thought that info will help as I made the mistake of thinking it was the reverse. I've been binge watching this channel for about three days (I've been horribly sick all week and found one of your videos the other evening) and my goodness... it's all just so fantastic - this video especially. I seriously love everything about these and I constantly find myself cracking up at your brilliant dead-pan humor. 13:56 As a geologist, that is super interesting to see the process of erosion so obviously. That bank could have been tens of feet (several meters) further out into the river channel. The raising and lowering of the water levels that you describe serves to speed this process up. I'm sure the farmer isn't happy with his land washing down the river along with his profits.

You asked for ideas for future trips. Did you consider filling those barrels with expanding foam? Closed-cell foam would mean they'd still float even if a rock tears a hole in the side of them and no more concerns about bringing an air pump to keep them inflated.
Sounds like a good idea, if you aren’t using them for something else when you aren’t on a river…

A friend of my mine recommended Steve's channel and I love this stuff! Growing up in Saskatchewan, I've explored the North Saskatchewan and South Saskatchewan river valleys but have never seen a DIY raft adventure on them. The raft is really cool and it's great to see that you can find all of the materials to build one of these at the local Canadian Tire. Keep the content coming, Steve! I think a time lapse camera (say a DashCam/ GoPro Hero) would be awesome for the front of the raft

When you beach your boat at night head straight in. Then tie off with 2 ropes, one rope tied at each corner from the stern (heading 45 degrees away from those back corners) to the shore. This will keep you stable from the current pushing you sideways and also keep your stern in the deepest water.

In the future you can either add a rudder to keep your drift in the right direction. Or alternatively you could utilize what is called a drag line, it can be rope or chain. It acts similarly to the tail on a kite. But it is reeled out at the back end and simply allowed to drag along the bottom. Obviously it takes a sizable amount of rope depending on the thickness of the rope. It takes far less chain, again depending upon the thickness of the chain as to how much. For such a small craft I would start right around 30 feet of rope and maybe 15 feet of medium sized chain. One other method, which is a cost saver is to use a combination of rope and chain, dragging the chain attached to some rope ! Hope to see more of these sorts of adventures Steve !
