    Back in 2019 my daughter and I took the sleeper train to Florida. She’d just been sick for 18 months, we were mentally preparing for her death. She underwent a miracle new procedure and literally woke up just fine. So we booked a Disney trip immediately after nothing but misery for 18 solid months. The train ride round trip was just amazing. We’re learned the hard way to GET OFF THE TRAIN whenever it stops (if you’re awake) to avoid that floaty feeling at the end of the journey. It was late 2019, just before COVID hit. It will forever be one of the best memories of my entire life.

    Steve, I'm a 66 year old nomad that has been traveling all throughout the US for the past 14 months in my 31 foot RV. I travel with my two dogs and a cat. It's been the greatest experience of my life. I heard you say you have a bus. You should bring it down to Quartzite, AZ for the winter. It is the most awesome experience camping completely off grid in the desert. There are people from all over the US and Canada and it's a fantastic community. You can stay in the long term visitor areas for $180 from September 15th through April 15th. The sunrise and sunsets are some of the best you will ever see. If you don't want to stay that long you can get a 2week pass for $40 or you can camp for free in BLM land for 14 days without paying. It's a journey right up your alley. Best of luck on your travels wherever they take you. 😊

      Idk about all that. Amtrak is pretty well despised in the US all by its lonesome.
      I actually lived in a beautiful former train station for two years that still had amtrak service at the building and never found a single trip that made sense for me to take that costed less or was shorter than flying.
      With Amtrak, you'll spend 2x more than flying to take 15x the time to get where you are going in a practical bus.
      Disgusting, expensive, and slow. Not sure how they are still in business.

      @edevos3108 Amtrak is no novelty and there is no shortage of us who do, or have, used their serves regularly. It is better than most subways and more comfortable than Greyhound, but that is about it.
      When compared to train services outside of the US, Amtrak is horrendous. I have literally taken nicer trains in third world countries that arrived on time, were clean, charged a reasonable amount, and served decent food, which is all more than I can say for Amtrak.
      I have half a mind to think you work for them, as I have honest to goodness, never run across someone with a positive opinion of the service.

    • @The_Sasswagon
      @The_Sasswagon 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Maybe that speaks to the type of person you interact with more than the quality of Amtrak service.
      It's pretty easy to find weird chuds in big trucks in North America and it's pretty easy to find people who enjoy riding the train. Just depends on who you talk to.
      No question many places have better trains, we can agree on that. But Amtrak is far from the worst and is more reasonably priced than you're implying.

I don’t get it. It makes it fun to have a funny announcer. I’ve always enjoyed when they mix it up. I’m like - what’s wrong with all these people commenting such negativity about the announcers on this train? Then it kinda hit me and made me depressed. The announcers that people are negatively commenting on sound like they’re probably Black. I think it’s as simple as that. People are obsessed with sex, but it's more than that. It's the type of parasocial dynamic that is common with content creators and their audience. People watch Steve for many hours. They see him camp and work on his property and interact with his friends and people. They get to feel like they know him, especially when he shares his personal life. It's like a one sided friendship, where we begin to know more and more about him and feel a closeness with him. It's similar to the movie Truman Show. So really it's not surprising that people are interested in his personal life.

    • @christianherald
      @christianherald 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      people could be less creepy/direct about it; but to answer your question (with a little more warmth than the standard "parasocial relationship" answer gives), "I don't know why." It's simple: you see good people, you want them to have a good life, across all aspects, facets of life. Everyone here knows that Steve is "good people," so it's only natural to want his life to be well lived and for him to be well supported in his relationships. When someone shows you their honest self (as Steve's online presence is pretty visibly straightforward/honest), it's easy to want to care, and to want for their happiness. It's also uplifting to care when the chance arises, in a often depressing world. People want something good to exist; Steve's that good thing. He's also, frankly, a vulnerable thing; been through a lot. Hope all his people in his life are good people as he finds steady ground again.

    I cannot express how absolutely stoked I am that you're posting a video like this. I love seeing folks from other countries travel through the US, and I love seeing the different perspectives on places familiar to me. I've traveled around the US a lot, both as a kid, and as an adult, but I've always wanted to do something like this, namely make the trip from Chicago (where I'm at now) across the northern states then down to visit family in California where I used to live, and then back up to Washington to visit my best friend and gaming buddy who lives right across the border.
    I've always wanted to see Montana, as strange as that sounds. A guy I dated for a couple summers in my very early twenties used to talk about Montana, where he was originally from, with such vivid, beautiful detail, and it really made me want to see all of it's natural beauty for myself.
    I hope your trips here have treated you well, I know parts of this country can be kind of rough around the edges, but there are so many wonderful gems.
    -Seeing that Jersey Mike's bag made me so happy, it's by far my favorite sandwich chain, and I'm not just saying that because I always get coupons for their giant subs (which are great after a bit of legal-in-my-state greenery)
    -Those little bunk rooms on Amtraks look roomier than I expected, that's far more space than I assumed!
    -the train's shower is nicer than the one in the house share I live in, I'm starting to think I really need to plan a trip soon.
    -We are not very filtered here in the US sometimes, especially our bored and tired train conductors/pilots/ship captains etc. It's fantastic
    I'm going to stop there, because though I have so so much more to say, I don't want to make this comment any more of a tedious novel than I've already made it.
    Needless to say, I'm so very stoked you shared your cross country US trip with us all here.
    I'll leave it at this-
    Welcome to the US! I hope your visit was pleasant, the people kind, and the scenery beautiful! Should you ever return, know that a whole portion of your community welcomes you wholeheartedly!

      I used to go coast to coast on GreyHound busses. Non-stop for three and a half days for $68. I would stay drunk the whole ride😃

    This route takes you literally within 500 yards of my house. 😅 We watch the Amtrak train run through all the time.
