Well, I tried out a chilly night of stealth camping in a culvert under a road. This is purely for entertainment purposes! Please don't go into a culvert, drain or sewer! This one was safe due to the time of year and the weather forecast. There was no risk of rain or flooding.
This was a trial run camping in one of these, so it was a learning experience for me haha.

Its a pretty haunting thought that wherever you are, anywhere in the world, Steve Walis could be just feet away from you, camping!
i want this to be my reality Come to the USA
I dont know about you, but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there. The Wallis. Takin' 'er easy for all us sinners...
lol, yeah right, like always in the city being 3 meters from a rat lol...V
During the winter, yeah, that might be a possibility, during the summer where I am at the moment we have too many snakes that would be trying to make home the same sort of places.
Hahaa.. good one 😆 watch over your shoulder. He might be anywhere
This goes to show you. If you happen to pull over on a dark and lonely road, you never know who could be right beneath you.
I didn't think about it that way, great point.
im gna think about this now lol
That’s why, as a night shift rural delivery driver, I never pull over near larger culverts, bridges, or thick bushes when nature calls. Just in case someone is hiding and doesn’t like my presence
I was waiting for a body rolled up in a carpet to get tossed in
Fuckin steve...
Hey Steve...hope you are making it ok brother....I lost my wife of 25 years the same way except we knew she was dying. I woke up on a Sunday morning about a year and a half ago and she was gone. I know the pain you are feeling and the emotions you are dealing with. I know right now it doesn't seem like it but I can tell you it in fact does get better. The bad days get fewer and farther between but you have to keep your eye on the prize....much love
Bless you Phil. I am thinking of you both.
What happened to his wife? I’m a new sub here. Also sorry for your loss
@@rezcellent Steve's beautiful wife Jess died two weeks ago today. They went to bed Sat night, if I recall correctly, and only Steve woke up Sun morning. No word on the cause, but my experience is that takes many months to determine. We youtube friends of Steve are so shocked on his behalf. Poor dear man. He is only 40 and his wife would be about the same. Wish I could give him a big hug and provide a few meals or do chores for him. I've been in similar shoes.
@@livableincome losing a spouse at the age of 40, suddenly, is pretty rough

Bless Jess, bless Steve, bless her poor dear parents. And her school children too. What a terrible shock. Sending everyone love.
I'd never thought I'd be living in a time where I am able to sit at home, and watch a man be homeless professionally. Oh what a time to be alive!

Offering to pick you up in the am in the middle of nowhere. Everyone needs a friend like Crazy neighbour in their life, what a gent and heartwarming friendship.
just wait till you see the episode where Steve and crazy neighbor camp out overnight in an abandoned turkish prison.

Some sad individuals like to play the "troll" role to ig ite people reaction, others reflect their poor, narcissistic existance on others. In both cases, they're deranged, poor souls.
A lot of people don't understand why some rich white canadian dude would just pretend to be homeless for views....
I really enjoy watching you camp stealthily. You're funny in a subtle and witty way. I do appreciate your 'leave no trace' policy. Have fun, be safe and stay stealthy!
Well, thank you very much! Hope you’ll continue to enjoy ;)

Imagine passing over this culvert not knowing there’s a man living like a gopher underneath you haha
Imagine being referred to as the "crazy neighbor" when your neighbor who lives in a house with his wife decides to go camping in a storm drain in the middle of winter for fun.

When that car stopped over him I just imagined a serial killer dropping a body in and Steve being interviewed for a Netflix documentary about how he caught the storm drain slayer.
Imagine the documentary having to take a minute to explain what stealth camping is and why he was there.
Plot twist, they where actually looking for Steve. Hes the real serial killer. 😱
I thought the same thing!
😂🤣😂
Why would serial killer spare Steve, a big witness in this hypothetical scenario ? :-? And it is not live streaming.. so isn’t that scary
I thought about living in a culvert but realized it was just a pipe dream.
Good one!😇

Really, you gotta admit this was solid
Ha, yes, that's a good'n 😆👍
🤣
"I assure you that it's not always as glamorous as it seems to sleep in a culvert." Easily the best quote in the video.
I might suggest doing like several layers of bug netting in place of the tarp. It'll let enough air through while acting like a wind barrier. On both sides of your camping. Might help with keeping more heat in your culvert and still let you watch for headlights. It'd be less noisy than the tarp too.
Great idea.
Really putting the Tube in TH-cam, Steve.
So it really IS a series of tubes!

Crazy Neighbor is the best! Volunteering to drive all the way out there to help Steve so he doesn't have to walk 2km back to his car with all that stuff on his back, cold, tired, and hungry. Then a good breakfast in warmth. A friend that's pure gold! Would that everyone could have friends like that. Thanks and blessings for sharing this experience with us. 🙏👍👍♥️♥️♥️🙂
I love how when Steve gets in sneaky mode, in the middle of nowhere, his voice gets very quiet as if hiding so no one hears what he's going to do. Haha! Another great video Steve!! Thank you!

Camped one night there ,the next night above the garage same way. Mre and such they had. Most nervous ive been i was standing on the porch there checking from ground they got all up, when door went up, Headmaster came out, just a few second nervous chat whilst they were feets in the air above him with all gear. Steve needs a custom tarp with a picture of the culvert on both ends and then just camp between them.
Bugs bunny and the coyote lol
Illusion 100
🤣
This, 100%, this. Also, if the culvert was say, 20 feet long (just estimating) Setup the cot in the middle, or roughly 10 feet in. Setup the tarps with the picture of the opposite end. This would serve multiple functions: with the heater in the middle, it would keep it warmer. Also this would make this spot further from the entrances. Second I would get some wood and set it up in a + or X shape just inside the tarp. Then wrap some string through it so the tarp didnt flap as much in the wind. Looking down a dark hole at night would reveal less perhaps if the tarp was also dark brown or black.
Yes!

I’ve found shelter twice in my life in a storm drain. Once in the Sonoran desert while hitchhiking and it suddenly started snowing and raining this was in Mexico. Other time was below zero Minneapolis. Opened grate to keep people out and crawled maybe 100 feet back in to a turn and set up sleeping spot and was much warmer in there. Bet I wouldn’t have made it outdoors that night without the storm drain. Thanks for sharing
Although I think Sonoran desert during rain/snow could have been bad if it had flash flooded.

Next up: Stealth camping in the back seat of a random stranger's car. "Alright, it sounds like we're in the driveway and they have gone into the house now. Before I set up my sleeping bag, it's time for a Step 2. I'll be out of here before they leave in the morning if all goes to plan." On another note, some type of black cloth blanket would have probably been better for the culvert and wouldn't crinkle with the wind. Wouldn't let light through, either. Actually, a black blanket supported by magnets on both sides would mean that you wouldn't have to worry about the wind or turning the light off every time a vehicle passed. They wouldn't be able to see even a small amount of light coming out of the culvert, either. The side closest to the road could be sealed with the most magnets. A small 1/4" block of plywood maybe 1' x 1' or 2 x 2 would help provide a level space on top of the corrugations for the heater and such.
More like under the car. "Now, we have to be very careful not to oversleep, the consequences of that would be disastrous as they drive over me."

Homeless THEN homeowner. For many in Australia (we haven't had a decent housing crash for a while), it's home "ownership" (read: mortgage) followed by homelessness. People buying $300,000 homes for a million dollars and expecting the market to increase. Sheer lunacy.
Hopefully in your area house prices are normal. We live in frustrating times in the Sydney area if yoh want to live under 4 walls and own it.
