Masterpiece is the reason I got back into collecting Transformers but to me the quality and presence has really fallen. All MP’s should be fully painted especially at that price. The figure sounds hollow and cheap through the video just like you said. At this point I look forward to FT, MMC and XTB releases before Takara which is kinda sad. Great review and transformation TM as usual. Bring on the versus!
@@topbackpodcast2615 Optimus, Megatron, Arcee, the Seekers are all fully painted or very close. It’s just my opinion if you don’t care for paint I completely understand. If they don’t fully paint them then the price should be closer to the Datsun’s and the Lambo’s since we can get the same figure from 3rd party fully painted for less than $165. But if you like it you win!
Have you actually handled one? I just got mine, and it does NOT feel like a "main line" figure. There's no di-cast, true, but the figure overall feels great. I don't miss the waist swivel because everything else is beautifully articulated. Everything just feels....refined. The plastic does not feel cheap. Every joint has a soft ratchet, he's super poseable ... and then you have the officially licensed vehicle mode + all the accessories - it's honestly a really nice figure...
Yea I got mine and sold it. Sticking to the Fans Toys. It felt cheap to me. Glad you like your figure. You’re always a winner when you enjoy your purchase.
Thank you for the review. I'm a bit disappointed by TT's offering here. I was holding out for this guy over FT since I didn't really like the chrome legs and had some concerns with the ankles of FT being loose like with their Trailbreaker. The inconsistent colors, sprue marks, hollow chest, etc. doesn't really look like a MP offering. While I probably should've waited for the versus, I cancelled my pre-order and picked up the FT version (which was cheaper).
I was interested to see how he turned out, but he looks very flimsy and hollow even compared to Mp-56 Trailbreaker. I'll probably wait for your comparison to make a final decision, but I'm definitely leaning toward FT Hitch if I get either.
@@Vallco4084rubber tires deteriorate/crack over time. Thats one of the reasons why I ponied up the cash to upgrade to MP-44 from MP-10 because the tires cracked after only 4 years.
OK, so for the roof to tab back in properly when changing back to let mode the screw heads on the shoulders must be facing upwards towards the roof otherwise the roof is not tabbing back at all.
Although I love Takara Tomy's take on Trailbreaker, I actually sold my Fanstoys, I think I'll wait for the KO version of Hoist. Trailbreaker was awesome but, the plastic was very thin, is all plastic, not everything was painted and lack of diecasts made it very cheap feeling. So, I'll probably pick it up if there's a KO knockoff as it's not worth the price given how much it's lacking.
Seems to me that Takara is focusing on making the alt-modes look good, like they did with their trains, probably because that part is licensed. But this isn't really striking me as a Masterpiece. I'll be sticking with the FT version. Will definitely watch your comparison video but thinking I know how it'll turn out. Great review.
A lot of negativity in these comments. Especially from people who don't have the figure. I mean I know reviews are there to help you decide whether or not you want it if you are on the fence, but I'm just not entirely sure what some of you were expecting here. If you're a FT fan, you are obviously going to stick with your FT version, if you are an XTB fan, you will stick with the XTB version. If you're a Takara only guy, then you'll get this one. Takara have been going the hyper-toon accurate route (for better or worse) since MP-44, which is imo, a smart business decision, since most of their competitors at the time were not offering an accurate cartoon representation. This sometimes leads to issues with articulation due to the characters sculpt. They are also expensive to produce, 3rd parties don't have the same amount of overheads, they don't need to pay licensing fees either. I'm not defending Takara, I just fail to see anything in this review that would put me off buying the figure unless I already HAD a Hoist from another company I was satisfied with. Other than the old trope of 'Weight equals quality' and because it has no die cast and is light, it must be cheap.
The negativity stems from personal biases and no actual facts. Thats what’s annoying about certain collectors. I am a Takara fan, but I will admit when flaws are present. This figure has some but no figure is perfect. I am personally excited to recieve this figure in the next couple of days
So glad I went with FansToys, this doesn't look like the Takara one will really hold up. So many shortcuts and low build quality. FansToys built a beautiful well made bot.
Thanks for the review. The vs. should be interesting as well. As far as toon accuracy goes I do not remember the toon having a hollow see through chest and 3 shades of green and 2 shades of orange.
So is there a way to put the hitch up in vehicle mode? There isnt an optional T-Cover to go above the doors and fill in the cab roof? Its a deal breaker if not. Ill be buying FT-Hitch next week I guess…
It seems like Takara is cheapening out on paint and plastic to try to keep prices down but that makes their figures less desirable, at least to me. That's a shame, I'd rather have an incomplete MP collection than one full of pieces I felt I wasted my money on.
Apart from that horrific foot wheel slide mechanism the FT version is far easier.... that's the first time I have ever said that when comparing FT to official Masterpiece.
Man that looks cheap! I need a hoist so will wait for the ko as I noticed on showz, there's no after care for this figure. Every joint and panel looks and sounds like it's either going to break or just crumble over time. Will be a one and done transformation once I get the ko
I generally reserve 3 for something that broke easily but still works in both modes, 2 if it just doesn't standup or work, 1 is pure garbage but I don't think I ever gave a 1
@@TMReviews a score that's never used is maybe not so useful if you work with such a small scope (1-5 as opposed to 1-10 for example). Effectively by excluding the 1 it's 2-5, and with most figures being 2-4, that doesn't leave a lot of margin room to differentiate between figures that can be very different. Maybe you can consider ditching the numbers altogether and just say "don't recommend/recommend/highly recommend" (and add maybe a rotten tomato category for exceptional stinkers, like the Grand Tour always has that follow car on road trips as a constant threat in case one of the guys' cars breaks down, you could award a seal of awfulness IDK). Anyway I expect the versus with FT will expose the weaknesses in a more numerically satisfying manner. For this TT I'll wait for the KO, which might be improved even.
With offering like this from Takara it makes you wonder whether they are giving up on the Masterpiece line, this is in no way an MP quality figure. They may as well focus on main line figures if this what they think a Masterpiece figure is as this doesn’t compete with any of the 3P offerings, in any category. We might be witnessing the slow death of the MO line.
Pffff, TT really dropped the ball on this one. Less paint and articulation but also a lot of hollow parts. The chest is one thing, but his shoulders look really horrible. Unpainted, hollow and very flimsy. Do you have XTB Hoist? I bet that one would beat this, I’m very disappointed about this one. Great vid, cheers
Wow Sony, that plastic sounds and feels like the Clear painted over kind. The kind that belongs in the Train line not MP line. 1st Tracks and Now Hoist, you Autobots have the Empty Torso Syndrome, says Galvatron. 😂
He will have better articulation than the fans toys. But dang they just went to cheap with this guy and it shows. If he was a $100 figure then maybe but not at what they are asking.
Hard pass..I call that Takasa Tony Hasblogna. Maybe the eventual KO would be worth the price. But an all plastic waistless figure, feels & looks like a waste of money. Doesn't speak Masterpiece to me.
Nice review. I'm sorry to say but imo the only Masterpiece part about this figure is the size of it. Feels poorly made with the lack of vital articulations points, lack of weight due to being all plasticy and lack of paint in certain area's. MMC. XTB and FT are all vastly superior . While it does look good from a small distance this is not what a highly priced collectible toy should be. Hard pass. 🥳🥳🥳
@@TMReviews also, does anyone else have a problem making certain orange roof parts tab in when changing back to alt mode? Any suggestions for that one?
The quality has dropped significantly. She was better on figures like the mp10, Wheeljack, Sideswipe, Skywarp, Tracks etc... I stopped buying Takara. These will be third party companies or KO TT. Even the planes the quality is different. Starscream Mp11 is of good quality. The MP Dirge has fragile and thin plastic. Even though it is more expensive! Takara is very disappointing.
