Yeah you actually also collapse in the back window so the sides can fully tab into it too for anyone watching, get that in and the back tabs in the top it’ll stay better but still not perfect. He’s my favorite by far. Great review bobbeh. Also yeah the arms can go alllll the way up on that second joint that breaks away from the shoulder pad, can see in the product photography
the rear fenders have tabs that lock the backpack in at the top. That and getting the rear glass into the right position allows the backpack to tab in securely. On my first try it was a floppy mess too.
the "days without breakage" counter makes your content even MORE enjoyable than before. Something so small and yet it leaves a HUGE impact on things for me.
I have waited years, literally years for an official MP Trailbreaker. And the final result has left me feeling... cold towards it. I cannot for the life of me, pin down exactly what the issue is for me. Is it the grey colour as opposed to black? Is it the fact that the alt mode doesn't look like the G1 toy? Is it the fact the legs seem too long for the small upper body? I cannot answer any of these questions. In your humble and valid opinion, what version of Trailbreaker would be the best option in terms of alt mode aesthetic and robot mode proportions?
Out of the three pictured here, I think X-Transbots looks the best. Toon-accuracy be damned, the amount of chunk in X-Transbots' figure just feels the most fitting for Trailbreaker (Badcube overdid it).
Same here! I love the posability on Takara's (mostly the arms), but it's not enough for me to get rid of the XTB, the look and color of which I prefer.
I have the XTB which I'm happy with and prefer in bot mode, but damn, I love the alt mode on this guy. I like the blue windows and especially like the translucent window into the camper section. But it's not something I'd swap out. If I could get one cheap to have both modes represented I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat and if I'd gotten this first I'd be fine but TT were just too late to the party for me.
It's the most cartoon accurate version out so I don't know what you're talking about. It's basically 100% cartoon accurate and it's also got the best alt mode that can also be more cartoon accurate. Three only thing that hurts it is it didn't have metal and plastic wheels.
I have no idea if there is room for it in the torso, but I think the side could have been significantly helped if they had put the doors on slides in before tucking instead of a rotation. That way the outside of the door would be showing instead of the door's window. Ideally some of the door detail like the handle would show too. Of course that wouldn't help the fact you can see all the way through the figure behind the windshield.
The shoulder can actually get 180 up with a hidden rachet joint. But apparently one shoulder has common tolerance issues. Also the backpack could be tabbed in more securely if you collapse it along the hinges more. But yeah this really shouldn't have so many tolerance/QC issues
You should do something for a third party trainbots like train yard Japanese themed they should have given raiden a beam saber or sword for the combined mode.
Man, the dude by side with the others is jarring. Personally, I love the beefy look of the XTB, but the FT is so clean and the paint is crazy sharp compared to the other two.
I forget which one, but I think I bought the X transbots trailbreaker( the one with the tree stump and coffee set for spike and his father) and right out the box, the fingers exploded. I touched the hand and the fingers fell apart at each joint. they were not pinned. I may get this as a replacement.
I really like Trailbreaker figures (and wish Hasbro would give him his own mold instead of being on the Hoist mold in the Earthrise line), and I get toon accuracy is pretty much all what Masterpiece is about now...but when I think of Trailbreaker, I picture him in black...not this grey or charcoal color the MP is. He just looks weak cause of that regardless if toon accurate or not.
I can't get the backpack to stay together, and have a hard time getting it together to begin with. There also is a lot of very thin plastic which feels like it could break, and in person, it just has gaps everywhere, from his terrible sides to the backpack being gapy. I much prefer my Fans Toys in every way. it just doesn't quite feel like a Takara product.
There's just something not quite right about the torso. Like the whole hood piece needs to be down a little further and mesh better with the windscreen. I dunno. Can't put my finger on it
I have thought the proportions looked off since the first photos were released, and I really don't like the unpainted plastic that attaches to all the chrome weapons. Glad I have Outback. I have the KO version on pre-order for the alt mode.
I have Xtransbots for alt mode and FT for bot.. but this alt mode does look better in some ways.. idunno.. I know it's gonna feel cheap.. I'm on the fence for my alt mode..
He's a tubby tubster!! Why did they have the doors flip so the windows show? They could have kept them the other way would look not so cheap. I would have totally sacrificed the butterfly to fill that nasty gap in. I had him on pre-order before Outrider and as soon as I saw him on Show Z I deposited down on him and love, love, love the figure. Yes, he has his own issues, but he looks MP, though somewhat over cartoony, he looks like he's worth the money. Thanks for another great video Bobby!
The vehicle looks good. That's about it. I think everyone barring BadCube did an overall better job. From what I've seen, the backpack tabs in better than that but a lot of people had trouble getting it just right. Not exactly a sign of good engineering. Barring everything else, the shoulder joint being hindered out of the box is just unacceptable. It moves a lot more, but the second joint can't be moved without damaging it or being modified. Also worth mentioning is how they managed to put the doors on a bunch of joints but still have the windows face the outside.
Have to agree with the animation accuracy point - yes it’s accurate and if that is what you want then great! But I don’t like how simple and blocky cartoon-accurate figures are, I like mechanical detail and stylisation while still having it recognisable as the G1 character
@@teriyak1 Takara Tomy just can't win. They make a stylized version while Fans Toys makes a toon look, fans blame Takara for a bad Masterpiece figure. Takara blows it out of the water with Trailbreaker while Fans Toys looks the worst of the 3, I'm including X-transbots Aegis in this, and fans are now wondering why Takara Tomy did what they did. By the worst, I mean Fans Toys probably had the best looking Trailbreaker, aesthetically, but least cartoon accurate.
18:00 I own none of these, but I like the x-transbots on the right the most. The takara version in the middle looks like it has a little peanut head, and his arms and legs look like they came off a fembot... really skinny.
Thanks Bobby. Great review. Fanstoys is my go-to, but man I gotta say, collecting 3rd party and Takara MP scale, I been pulled into the cartoon hype. Seems more and more time that goes on, I am growing hungry for that toon look I remember the characters as. It’s been holding a special place in my heart the more that time goes on. FT and a few other companies have my heart, but now with this toon craze, it allows me to have multiple displays of the same character. So for better or worse, it’s a win win. Love the song and it’s video too btw. Great message, and I totally feel you from here. God bless you and your family. Appreciate you over all these years. Helped me through some tough times. All hail!
Does it bother anyone else that Takara included a non-chrome grill, but all of the other accessories have chrome? To me it reads as: "Cartoon accuracy is important, BUT NOT REALLY!"
No way I'm buying this, If I want toon (I dont) XTB, if I want build, FTs and if I want Alt Mode, BC...I got all 3 I will ever want, TT what a wasted effort. Should had made Mirage or Reflector.
That leg transformation looks more annoying than Kingdom Rodimus Prime and MP27 Ironhide/MP30 Ratchet combined. And super thin panels? Possible break bait like MP47 Hound...I've seen quite a few reviews, but I never noticed how thin those panels were until now. That torso is pretty messy. This is where show accuracy really bites Takara in the balls, just because the animation model has the truck's front end on Trailbreaker (and Hoist) sitting at an angle *_DOES NOT MEAN_* they had to do it here. Especially considering that almost each and every modern mainline & third-party MP offering has it sitting straight down like the G1 toy and the original Diaclone toy. Yes, including the Earthrise figure, which some folks who reviewed MP57 Trailbreaker compared it to. I think I would like to see this get slaughtered in an ultimate versus match against FansToys, XTB, MMC, & Badcube.
Good stuff. I love how TT were able to make the transformation fun and simple and that face sculpt is so freaking accurate. I'm actually surprised they outdid FT in that department. I still like the more heroic look of FT, but I do think this one, and the XTB and MMC to be honest, are all good representations of the character.
Great review! I haven’t said this in quite a while but Fanstoys for the win! I think this is going to get stomped in the VS. too much junk going on for very little reward. That’s been the main issue with the toon craze in my opinion. It takes a lot of “work” to look so blah which also has the side effect of driving the price up. I’ll end up getting the KO or wait for a fire sale just because I dig the licensed Alt modes and this one in particular is nice.
The face sculpt and overall proportions make me cringe. If I were an exec at Takara I'd acquire the Fans Toys team and let them handle it from here on out.
Much like the predominantly clear plastic nightmare fuel that is Hasbro's Year of the Goat Soundwave and his Minions... this thing ain't a Masterpiece, it's just a Piece...nothing mastered about it.
See Bobby, you going for all or nothing on those of us that like the toon accuracy. I like the toon accuracy best, but own and appreciate other versions. I bought when 3P and takara were maybe 80% toon accurate, and enjoyed them the same as I enjoy the ones that are 100%. It’s doesn’t have to be all or nothing I don’t think
I’m surprised you didn’t hate on the robot mode more. That torso and chest are hot trash. You can completely see through from the side. Proportions are wonky, head is tiny. And the arms stick out so far on the shoulders. Just awful. Takaras last few offerings have been hot garbage. I honestly think they’re going to ditch the masterpiece line within the next 2 years.
man it sucks watching these reviews, cause if you clearly don't care for the product, mainly takara, why review them anymore? It's so baised against so why bother, im not a shill, but i dont think it's fair when you also dont even transform it correctly
This thing looks like utter garbage and this is coming from a T.T. collector. I have drank the Fanstoys Kool-aid and I’m all in on their interpretations of the characters
8:54 That’s not a “tolerance issue” it’s a “Bobby didn’t pull the hinge out issue”.
I was wondering if the sides had a way to connect to the back or body to make it more stable. Makes sense.
the rear fenders have tabs that lock the backpack in at the top. That and getting the rear glass into the right position allows the backpack to tab in securely. On my first try it was a floppy mess too.
Yeah was frustrating for me too till I seriously pushed those two tabs in, reminds me of hotrods backpack
@@dustyyshellz1320 for sure, those top tabs reminded me of some 4th-party BS trying to get them locked in.

For me, it’s the anorexic waist and hips. At least the other two shown looks heroic in a sense.
