- Another entry in my narrated video.. series... thing. In this, we look at a 'guerrilla sniper' engagement in the Human Shield mission. The mission shown is a adversarial on the Clafghan terrain.
Q: What server am I playing Arma games on, who are these people, and can you join?
A: It's the private server for my community, Shack Tactical. As of 2014 we've been around for eight years, and I wouldn't trade it for anything - we have a fantastic memberbase and it makes for amazing gameplay in Arma and elsewhere. You can read more about us here: www.shacktac.com
Q: What mods does ShackTac use in Arma?
A: I keep a list of them here: dslyecxi.com/sh...
Q: Does ShackTac play mostly coop or mostly PvP/adversarial in Arma?
A: We do a mix of about 70% adversarial and 30% coop - both offer unique experiences and are a blast to play.
Q: How long have you been playing the Arma series?
A: I've been here from the start, with my Operation Flashpoint experience beginning with the demo's release in 2001. I went into the US Marine Corps shortly after (no relation!) and in 2004 I started playing OFP in multiplayer. 2006 saw me found ShackTac, which started in OFP and then transitioned through Arma 1, Arma 2, and finally, Arma 3. I hope to continue this for a long time into the future, as well as share the ride with viewers like you, as corny as that sounds!
Q: What system am I filming all of my Arma and VBS footage on?
A: dslyecxi.com/ab...

Q: I have a question about your channel or content that I haven't seen answered elsewhere - what's the best way to ask it?
A: I maintain a blog where I've answered hundreds of different questions relating to ShackTac, Arma, etc - you can find that here:
blog.dslyecxi.com
I also answer questions in my comments routinely, as I enjoy that aspect of things. If I don't answer, please don't take it personally - there's a lot going on and I can't always get to everything. My channel followers do a good job of answering the more common questions, too, and I thank them for that!

wish i could have seen their perspective of this.
"I don't want to get clever girl'ed by a blu unit" xD
I was in the forest in day z once and I snuck up on this dude and he said clever girl it was super funny I laughed forever after I blew his head off with a mosin nagant
I love Guerrilla Sniping. It's half recon, and half assassin. (and not "Hollywood kill everyone ninja" assassin, an actual assassin that takes out critical targets)
Even the usual regular army sniper is half recon, half assassin though.
I bet the Pl Leader you shot was like "Who the hell shot me?" Then he saw it was you and was like "Shhhhheeeeeeit"
*****
ofc hes not.
how the fuck did you think that was what hes implying
+ThePcGamer he's talking about spectator mode
still watching this to this day dyslexci is always a relaxing listen as i need background noise to focus and i have never found a more composed arma youtuber
18 months later and I still enjoy this more than most other videos :)
52 months later and I still enjoy this video lol
55 months later and i still enjoy this video lol lol
60 months now ! Still the best
70 months, still hasn't lost my interest
76 months and I'm still here ;D
10 years later and still a banger
I hope you do more of these in the future, perhaps not guerrilla sniping in particular, but just the, play-by-play, slow and tactical kind.
Pretty intense video Dslyecxi. Being a good sniper is hard work. Having that kind of patience is a rare trait in video games these days. My hat's off to you sir.
Great Vid. Would love to see more of this in a longer vid
This is the video that got me to start playing ARMA, Thank you!
+Bradley Coudriet - Glad to hear it! Hope it's been a fun time since.
Over 1200 hour say that I have been :) Thanks for you awesome contributions to the community.
Brings me back to Far Cry 2. Killed whole camps back then without them noticing me. That AI was sweet. Fun to play with and the most human-like I've ever seen, and never seen again in other games since.
yeah it was amazing and the sniping was very funny. that game was very long too. games published today are lacking inspiration and made for money. and that makes them very boring for me. dont know why are the people still supporting the EA and such. in example rome 2 and battlefield 3 , you cant enjoy the game if you dont buy the dlcs. actually dlcs now are parts of game being sold for astronomical prices. goddamn it people just dont buy them!

I never end up killing at long range. Friends of mine referred to me as "Maimer" because I always ended up doing non lethal, but ridiculously injuring shots. I soon adopted the idea that, if you kill a guy, that's one person down. You injure a man, that's him down, and 1-2 others taking care of him.
Of course, That usually just means that they get better and escape, so I guess it's a flawed sadistic perspective lol
Jacob Knight No, it's actually an absolutely correct philosophy, only flawed by the fact that you can fully heal a gunshot wound in ArmA within five minutes or less. I believe the 5.56mm NATO was, in fact, designed to deal an injury bad enough to require two men to carry the casualty to a triage station. This would effectively mean that while you only hit a single enemy, you actually deprive the enemy of three men in that immediate situation. Granted, two of them can return in minutes, but that's minutes someone else can use to achieve tactical superiority on the battlefield.
***** Yeah, that's why I often don't get to play these games lol
Nice name Mr. Maimer!
theres a reason why landmines are desighned to injure not kill in most cases
5:10, love that Jurrassic Park reference haha.. I shall start using this phrase xD
It's been almost 5 years and this remains one of the videos that blew my mind. I was actually sitting down talking about it with a friend recently because of how deep the thought process was to certain actions, and the speed as to which the decisions were made.

Kaldenavn 7 years
Really well done, Dys. That's text book AQ, and the only thing is that this could be used as a training tool. But we aren't gonna hide under the bed, eh? BIS should give you a raise. Please keep showing us how to use this "game".
Great video i would love to see more on "Guerrilla Tactics" the idea of a little flea driving a big dog crazy.
How come I haven't seen your channel before. It's the fifth video I watch in a row and they are great, great content, great commentary, not the kind you easily find these days! Thanks for that :D and I'm suscribing right now
For someone quite new to the arma series, this is of great help! Thx a bunch.
This is the first video i watched from you, and i have a gut feeling i'm gonna enjoy my stay here, take my sub good sir!
I would actually appreciate and pay for a full length movie feature like this (sin city/max payne style narrative, Arma style situations, held up by a red thread storyline and your awesome hushed-down tone)
I really like these narrated videos, they're informative, and keep the video interesting when not much is going on, on the screen. Not to mention it's nice to know what's going through your head in these situations.
I was a passenger in the rear of the column with HQ element when this sniper started engaging us. We were scouring the area for him, along with the chopper and with our own sniper team on the slope, with no success. Then later we got engaged again, and again. It really is a mind fuck when you know there's a guy with a scope there possibly ready to dome you. I then got lucky when I was in the right place and the right time to find dsly, towards the end of the mission. Awesome video
I don't think I've ever felt as much respect for anyone that I haven't even met. Keep doing what you're doing, you magnificent human being.
Fascinating to see how an experienced player approaches situations like these. Thanks for the upload and commentary!
wow, nice vid. I was wondering though if the targets you where shooting at are AI or actual people, although from the way you talked about them i think it suggested they where people.
They're people.
***** thanks, strange having the uploader responding in the comments
+asphane gim try
I can't sleep with VoDs like these on the interwebs. Awesome stuff.
Should do more vid's with this style of gameplay. Really enjoyed this video, very in-depth and interesting to watch, the whole guerilla sniping thing is very cool.
Absolutely love these narrated videos more than any on the channel, I find them that much more engaging and interesting to hear all the processes going on.
This shit was dope. After watching some of your other Arma vids, this is the one that gave you a New Sub. And after reading some of the comments, im not the only one who'd like to see more of these in the future. Good Game.
I generally like your content, but I especially like these videos about the tactical thought process and decision-making. The shorter videos are a little more accessible, but I also like being able to sit down and watch a 2-hour ShackTac "feature film" when I have the time ;-)
Man, I love stuff like this. Very insightful and interesting to see how the principles of guerrilla sniping come into play in an actual combat situation.
I wasn´t prepared for the ending...it came way too quick! If the rest of this mission is anywhere close to this 15min of suspense-packed awesomness, I beg you to upload the whole mission!
I love these narrated videos.I learn a lot from them. Please do more of the narration!
6 years later and this is still fun to watch
Twelve years later and this is still fun to play. :D
Dslyecxi 14 years later and I’m still wanting to play
You really deserve a hell of a lot more the subscribers then you currently have because of the work u put into your videos, keep it up
Wicked stuff Dslyecxi! You bring joy to this gamers heart. Watching your videos brings back memories of my younger days playing coordinated tactical clan games. Wish I could find the time now to get back into it. Just wanted you to know this brings me back and is much appreciated. Keep it up!
This is to date my most favorite video, Dslyecxi! I was super depressed when i visited the shactac page and read your most recent blog post on recruitment.... I love arma 2 and have over 300+ hours logged on it. Every server i join in multiplayer fails, hard. The worst thing is I know ever bit of terminology you guys use and it kills me, kills me I can't be a part of this!
Yes, your community seems amazing
I also like you commentary gameplay ,i find them so entertaining because easier to really understand what's going on.
It is really nice to hear your thought process in these videos. Great content. Keep it up.
I really love the human shield missions, I just love the guerrilla and draconian ways that the insurgents have to protect their caches/survive.
One of your best videos, Dslyecxi. I think ones like this can really help promote ARMA and milsimming to people that haven't tried it before. Keep up the great work!
this is pretty cool. I don't understand how its so hard for them to see you when you can see them so clearly (I've only played Arma II single-player)
It's scary how much you snipe like I do, I'm always relaxed in my shots never multi-tap and always look for a leader.
Great video.
Not really scary... just fundamentals of sniping.
Your very informative narration makes this so much better.
Great video. I really enjoy your commentary, it gives insight into what you're thinking and why you make certain decisions. IMO it's not only a very entertaining movie but also an educational one. I enjoyed it very much, thanks!
I enjoy listening to your commentary, gives me something to think about on how to do my videos in future, its so easy to get totally immersed while playing the game that I forget to say anything. I will be taking a leaf out of your book, thanks for sharing.
I was hooked as soon as I read the title. I'd like to hear some of the actual game speech, but this is fine, too.
That shot and your video "speak only when spoken too" Won me over. I like the cut of your jib sir. SUB'D
Awesome display of tactical superiority. You have a subscriber
You just earned a subscriber my friend. Your video is so calm that im calm now. I wish you do more of these, I will watch them.
you should do more of this, it was fantastic to watch.
This was enjoyed on a high level. It sounds like some old sniper war diary story. Thanks for the video
I love how you play this game. It is like you a living in this world.
These Insurgency type missions are always great fun in adversarial, keep bringing us these great videos!
Post commentary.
Note how he said "it later turned out to be Platoon Sergeant"
you should make more videos like this ! really enjoyed it and would like to see a full gameplay
hey Dslyecxi. I know that it's probably a lot more work, but I love these kind of videos. It's like a moving Shack tac guide you have. Keep up the good work :)
this was awesome! i really like your videos, but the narrated execution adds a whole new level. keep it up!
This video is the best one you've made. I wish you'd make a whole series on the theme!
I miss these narrated videos. It is like a tactical version of ASMR.
Post commentary always a pleasure. Happy New Year!
I really enjoy your videos. It's interesting to hear some of your tactics and reasoning behind decisions you make so the narrations are great.
This is possible my favourite video that you've done so far, keep up the great work. Also, I have a question. We get to see the main events that you guys at ShackTac do as a whole unit but during the week do you guys just chill out and play smaller games of ARMA like Warfare and such or is it limited to these large operations?
I read your tactical guide for arma 3 and watch your videos. I learn a lot from you ._. Thanks for sharing. I subscribed.
This is easily my favorite video you've ever done man, if at all possible, I would love to see more content like this from you.
nice video and well done =) more of them plz !!! :D itz nice when u have those short shot of videos with your commentary to explain things makes me better forcus on what you are watching at =) gj !
I'm really glad I found this channel! These videos are excellent.
Awesome video, keep posting these, can't wait to see what you guys get up to in Arma III.
More of this pls i thought it was a cool vid
I would like to see more if this, I'm planning on adopting this style since I'm use to a longer range sniping. Great inspiration man!
ARMA 3 is out a while, getting better and better. The ASP-1 KIR would be kind of a challenge, dont you think Dslyecxi? Maybe at night? In stormy weather! THUNDER! AND BLOOD!!!
[was getting a little excited there :D but seriously, Dsylecxi, go for that role again. Your yt-audience will wet themselves]
+HorstEwald Blood for the blood god! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!!!
+slugger449 MILK FOR THE KHORNE FLAKES!!!
Awesome video. I loved how much patience you had to have to pull that off. One question though. Why is it important to hide the weapon after you take a shot???
This is mildly terrifying to watch.
this was one of my favorite videos from you. can you please do a couple more videos of inside the mind of a sniper in the future :)
I'd love to play Op like this, so many ingenious tactics utilised in a play style like this.
Dslyecxi, I've got to post more of these Guerrilla Sniper videos with commentary, because that was brilliant.
Dang, I really liked that. You should do another video about Guerrilla Sniping, maybe with another person with you. Just a suggestion.
This is my favourite vid of yours so far!
Dude, more like this. I'm all for "sniping from a distance" but this is definitely a more tactical and thought out approach. It may result in a more drawn out video, but it's sniping, which is more fun for me to watch than just spraying rounds at each other. :)
I love those narrated videos, keep up the good work.
Could you please make more of these? I love how this video was made, make both more sniper and other roles of your thought process?
Not if you're a sniper, you want them dead now. Usually you aim at center of mass at close quarters or far range with an assault rifle. Sometimes snipers can even down an enemy (take a leg shot or something) to draw the others out and take a lethal shot at them. Thank you for your time, this has been sniping with a random youtuber. :D
Bought TrackIR for ARMA and flight simming, thanks for introducing me Dyslexi, love your videos
One thing I would like to hear more during this kind of video are "what-ifs". The linear commentary is great here, but perhaps time can be spent on treating hypotheticals that didn't happen, and what possible courses of action could come form those.
For example at 5:00 you explain the need for individual SA in your position. Would be really interesting to know what exactly you were prepared to do, if indeed you were suddenly to find yourself at risk of capture or questioning by blufor!
I need to get into these kinda of arma events, they look so fun
It's actually an awesome idea. The only disadvantage would be losing stereo game sound, which is important when playing.
Your commenting throughout the video made it very much enjoyable, thank you
I REEALLY enjoy these Human Shield missions, but I haven't seen any perspectives from BLUFOR before. I definitely would enjoy seeing more Human Shield videos, but hey, it's your channel
Wow this is so immersive, it really is as if I am looking thorugh the eyes of a real guerrila sniper
lol 5:10 "I don't wanna get clever girl'd by a unit that's flanking me covertly". That's the best Jurassic Park reference I've heard, ever.
Wow, thanks man. This is incredible! It's a shame I can't afford gaming like this :(. Looks like I will have to miss out on experiences like this.
i really love this kind of commentary, keep it up!
"Sniping's a good job, mate."
i really really enjoyed this video where the comentary where sort of what you where thinking while playing
good narrative videos like this that would be otherwise boring are awesome. i want to see a urban guerrilla sniper video if possible :)
I would definitely like more guerrilla sniping videos in this format.
man i so wish you would do this more often!
The narrative video's where you explain ur thoughts and idea's like this one is much more entertaining..don't get me wrong i love watching you take out a whole squad by yourself..but this was pretty funny and fun to watch :D
