  • Something new, a more or less full-length narrated video! If you like it, let me know, I may do another one in the future if so. As always, comments, likes, favs, subscriptions, sharing, etc is welcome. This is a player-vs-player mission on the Aliabad terrain.
    Q: What server am I playing Arma games on, who are these people, and can you join?
    A: It's the private server for my community, Shack Tactical. As of 2014 we've been around for eight years, and I wouldn't trade it for anything - we have a fantastic memberbase and it makes for amazing gameplay in Arma and elsewhere. You can read more about us here: www.shacktac.com
    Q: What mods does ShackTac use in Arma?
    A: I keep a list of them here: dslyecxi.com/sh...
    Q: Does ShackTac play mostly coop or mostly PvP/adversarial in Arma?
    A: We do a mix of about 70% adversarial and 30% coop - both offer unique experiences and are a blast to play.
    Q: How long have you been playing the Arma series?
    A: I've been here from the start, with my Operation Flashpoint experience beginning with the demo's release in 2001. I went into the US Marine Corps shortly after (no relation!) and in 2004 I started playing OFP in multiplayer. 2006 saw me found ShackTac, which started in OFP and then transitioned through Arma 1, Arma 2, and finally, Arma 3. I hope to continue this for a long time into the future, as well as share the ride with viewers like you, as corny as that sounds!
    Q: What system am I filming all of my Arma and VBS footage on?
    A: dslyecxi.com/ab...
    If you want to know more about who I am:
    dslyecxi.com/ab...
    Check me out on Twitter, where I post video announcements and make the occasional smalltalk:

    Make sure to read my channel FAQ, it answers various questions and sets some expectations of behavior:
    dslyecxi.com/ab...
    Q: I have a question about your channel or content that I haven't seen answered elsewhere - what's the best way to ask it?
    A: I maintain a blog where I've answered hundreds of different questions relating to ShackTac, Arma, etc - you can find that here:
    blog.dslyecxi.com
    I also answer questions in my comments routinely, as I enjoy that aspect of things. If I don't answer, please don't take it personally - there's a lot going on and I can't always get to everything. My channel followers do a good job of answering the more common questions, too, and I thank them for that!
    I've authored the definitive guide on Arma 3 tactics, techniques, and procedures - check it out! Hard copies are also available.

    I also create, co-author, and distribute Arma 2 and Arma 3 mods for my community, you can find a complete release history of them here:

    Dslyecxi, I just watched the whole playlist of narrated videos and loved it. I learned a lot about situational awareness, movement, piloting, and so much more because I could see the strategies being used in context. It would be awesome if you made more of these videos. By the way, the last video (where bravo squad was wiped out) almost sounded like it could be a radio drama.

    So I'm very excited about this channel. I just watched the introductory video on Dslyecxi's channel and now I'm here as this video was one of the recommended ones. Not only do I love ArmA but I also love commentary and down to Earth guys. The introduction video on this channel page instantly sold me and made me believe that I'm going to love this channel. And now, after reading what I've typed, I realize that I sound like someone being paid to talk good about this channel hahaha. I'm stoked to hear some good casual commentary, and see some laid back, yet serious gameplay.

    This video made me buy Arma 3 and Arma 2 CO in 2013. I would love to see more videos like this. Today I've started to make my own narrative Video from my Arma 3 Gameplay. This is an example of an Arma experience. This is what makes Arma great!

    It was impressive how you worked your way through the area, but I must nag about you breaking formation when you went to investigate the flank. It would have been easier to brush it off if you had been a rifleman for example, but you were the machine gunner, and you also did it during a maneuver. At the end you completed the objective (nice), but I believe you did wrong by your squad. You bring it when you're lonewolfing, you're very good at it, but I can't help but feel that sometimes you forget how to be a team player. Your videos are very entertaining and I'd love to see more of this team player aspect of you, which I feel is suppressed.
    Cheers,
    Dom

      See how I'm the seventh person in the group? This is because I'm overflow and am tagging along - our fireteams are six people standard. I'm a completely bonus person to that fireteam. There was nowhere for me to be, so I chose to cover extra angles that weren't going to be hit by the main team. It's as simple as that.

    • @DrummerX166
      @DrummerX166 10 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      ***** While I understand you're an extra man assigned to this team, that doesn't mean it's your prerogative to do whatever you want. Whether it was a good tactical decision or not, actions like this make it impossible for FTLs and SLs to do their jobs. That FTL/SL you were assigned to now assumes the situation is a lot different than it is because you didn't tell him where you were going or respond to his radio calls about who was up. Possibility of friendly fire sky-rockets, and ultimately you're perpetuating a behavior that seems quite irresponsible. I understand you know all of this, I just want other people watching this video who might think this type of action ("lone-wolfing") is okay to get the message that it's not. I respect your leadership as it entails to your community, and I respect your community as a whole, but this seems like a step backwards :\

    • @dtennisman2006
      @dtennisman2006 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** The video was amazing. Through patience and tactics you were able to achieve the objective even though you were severely outnumbered. I'm very interested in this chain of comments though because I tend to agree with you on the side of you were just "tagging along" but if this had been an actual real world deployment, would it have been right to choose your own path or would you have to get orders from SL? - p.s. I'm new to arma and military strategy and tactics so hopefully that will explain any newb comment I may have made

      +Korin CBB though this may be a simulator, it is still just a game. you're still sitting at your computer desk with a keyboard, mice, monitor and headphones. so no need to take this die hard, if this were real life I would understand your reasoning and constructive criticism towards this video but; all in all this is still just a video game being ran by a computer. enjoy the immersion and dont take a videogame to heart. end of the day games are meant for enjoyment for the player and for the spectators observing.

    • @industrialdonut7681
      @industrialdonut7681 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Korin CBB This definitely is an interesting point regarding the FTL having to take extra consideration as to what dyslecxi was doing on his own, however Bravo got so fucked up early on before he even really maneuvered to where it should be a concern. he was checking blind spots and doing almost a bit of satellite patrolling for them in a sense that was not detrimental. as well, since they had a full FT at the start they already had an auto rifleman and therefore anything dyslecxi did would have to be from another angle for it to really make a difference - given that the FTL was on top of things as you seemed to imply. Now, I'm not defending lone wolf style play as I am not a particular fan of that, though you must see that in the scale this operated at it was just the contrary in intention! until again, Bravo got fucked up... Anyway, was a great video

    Through your vids, I am discovering something that I think I may enjoy. However, my knowledge of military tactics is what it is: civilian level!... In addition, I'm a PS gamer, not a PC. I would probably be very, very lost in such a realistic RPG simulator environment. And I wouldn't know where to begin to get started, to "test it out", if you will... I'm going to have to look seriously into this...

    • @dslyecxi
      @dslyecxi  10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I've watched a couple of your vids man, but this one got my sub. I love the voice over style that allows you to go back and point out the crucial moments that end up determining success or failure, but go overlooked in the chatter of regular recorded gameplay. You seem to take to it naturally and I enjoyed the story. By the way, props on being an Arma beast.

    Fair enough, to each their own. I'll watch stuff that ShackTac puts up without commentary, and I enjoy it even whilst oblivious as to what the mission is, but this was a nice, tight feature that felt like watching an episode, rather than just a gaming clip.

    I love the narrated lengthy video because it creates so much tension as you bring the viewer along with you. I don't think there's an Arma player with any PvP experience who hasn't endured the stressful loneliness of being the sole survivor. Unlike most online FPS games, Perma-death Arma PvP brings out something extraordinary in the experience.
    The consequences of mistakes are so grave that every right choice made is its own high. I really wanna see more of these.

    Though I have never played ArmA2. Yet the knowledge I learn through each clip and this one. The knowledge and information that you give can translate over into other shooters. Though not as sim as Arma but still tactical (like BF3 I feel). Each bit of the Art of Stalking that you pretty much tell in this tale. You are a Ninja.

    The narration over the map section at the start is the most useful. A similar section on 'inside the mind of a guerrilla sniper' is also pretty good.
    Your video to 'oh Taliban' could have used probably a couple of 'narrated map' clips as the mission unfolds, mostly because the moon-like terrain makes it difficult to stay orientated.

    A lot to be learned in this video. Great stuff! A few of Lexi's Lessons that I've solidified after watching this are 1) To have patience. Another great tip is to 2) "Pie" off or visually clear off piece by piece of what you can see, like at 22:39. After it's cleared you can somewhat think of that as a temporary threatless zone, allowing you to focus on other potentially more dangerous locations. All of that contributes to the grand idea of awareness that I seem to have so much trouble with.

    Really, really enjoyed this change in perspective Dslyecxi. You're right in that the narrative works much better when you're not saying much yourself, not sure how effective it would be in the more "chatty" mission. But this was really great stuff

    I love this sort of thing, especially when you pull off taking out almost an entire squad

    I really like this style, you get to be in the head of someone who knows what they are / should be doing, keep up the good work :)

    This video and video style made me subscribe instantly, Dslyecxi. They're probably much harder to make, no doubt, but hopefully more is forthcoming.

    This was fantastic. Putting aside the tense video itself, the narration was superb, though I'd ask to outline when -you- see the enemy mor clearly. It took awhile before I was able to spot those two on the top of the hill and I usually have great eyes for movement. Just a

    Yet another awesome video. Insightful info too.
    On an somewhat off-note, have you considered using Project Reality or some modified form of it?

    Dear God, this type of video freakin had me on the edge of my seat. And the fate of Bravo. I imagines a bunch of wound men on the ground being shot one at a time by enemy insurgents... Dear God... intense.

    The narration was superb. I actually would watch way more of your videos if they were in this format. I tend to find arma gets a little stale sometimes, but you had my full attention for the entire 25 minutes. A+

    Great stuff. I'm a big fan of live commentary - starcraft for example. I do it myself for quake on my channel. To see it from a long-time player of a game like Arma really puts a new perspective on it!
