    I was at the Dodge dealership the other day and they wanted 79k for a gas Ram truck. It wasn't any better at the other dealerships. Their work truck special was in the 30k range, but still... I'm old enough to remember when you could buy a bare bones pickup truck that was the less expensive alternative to buying a car. These prices now are crazy! I'm just a poor public servant, there's no way I can pay almost 80 grand for pickup truck, and I can't even see spending 30k when you can still buy a reliable used one for less than 10k.

I still think the 90’s were a high a high mark for all manufacturers, both trucks my Dads business bought went over 400,000 miles before we sold them and we still see them around with their new owners. I just can’t see the new ones going that long as there’s too many things to break that cost more than the truck is worth.

Imagine if someone from the future came back then and told us that's what a base model would cost in 10 years, and pickups would be pushing the 100k msrp mark.

    Any engine is going to extract more power with cold air intake. It will run more efficiently. It may not get the massive boost you might get with a turbo or supercharger but your engine will run more efficient with a little more power. If it's worth doing the exhaust it's worth doing the cold air.

    • @FloorItDuh

    • @seoulkidd1
      @seoulkidd1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jayg9732 the problem with turbos is 1. There are more components to go wrong on the engine. 2. Most ppl don't know how to properly drive a turbo engine. The most common problem is the engine itself hasn't warmed up (not the coolant) before they hard drive the vechile. 3. There is a phenomenon called Vapor Lock which happens at high speeds causing the engine to blow.

      @@RobertSmith-le8wp Gotta love desert climates. Over here in Kuwait even GM trucks can last decades. The weather is so dry you almost never see rust damage on cars unless someone has been very liberal with a hose. And using a hose on a car is illegal here now, so cars generally will last even longer.
      There's no saving them from electrical problems though. With both the American and European brands it's typically either the electrical systems, the A/C or the plastic and rubber parts that get destroyed by the heat, sand and sunlight. Part of why any picture you see of traffic in a Middle Eastern country will be dominated by primarily Japanese brands. It's Scotty's paradise. Toyotas everywhere.

      Not true, the boards tuck under the truck and all you see is a black line under the doors. They deploy when you open the doors and hide when you close the doors. My Grandpa gave my Dad his old truck since he can’t drive anymore. I do all the maintenance and drive it most of the time since my Dad already has a nice truck and prefers it. It’s an early 90’s square body XL (regular cab, long bed, roll up windows, power nothing) it’s got the most reliable Powertrain Ford has ever put in a vehicle. It’s a 300 straight 6 with a 5 speed manual and because it’s a Grandpa truck it’s only got 48,000 miles. I miss trucks like this so much. Just a very simple, reliable truck that’s easy and cheap to work on. It’ll be mine someday so I take care of it like it already is. I know they don’t make as much money on simple vehicles so we’ll probably never see another F150 like that again. I think Grandpa told me he paid in the $8000 range brand new off the dealer lot. It’s a shame that all the truck makers have done away with manual transmissions. Also, looking back it seems like the 1990’s were a high mark for reliability for both domestics and imports. Our work truck back then was a 1992 Ram 3500 Extended cab. We got the Cummins 5.9 with a 5 speed manual. We ran a 36’ gooseneck with that truck and it pulled it no problem. Just to compare with newer Ton trucks we bought the Dodge brand new and it was $21,500 off the dealer lot, and that truck wasn’t stripped by any means. All we ever had to do was change the oil with Shell Rotella T 15w40 every 7500 miles and we made it to 500,000 miles before we sold it. I have no doubt the F150 will go 500,000 miles as I’ve heard nothing but good things about the 300 straight 6. I even think the 90’s F150 look better than the new ones. I’m an old school kinda guy and believe a truck should be simple and not have all those tech features, it’s just another expensive thing to break. I mean is it really that hard to roll the windows up and down?
