Scotty, what can you tell me about friction modifier oil additives? Are they really helpful to an engine, and do they help get better gas mileage, or is it just marketing automotive "Snake Oil"?
phat cat mouse killer Toyota isn't a truck Co. The new Ranger is back to RECLAIM its crown. Ford gave that category away if u werent aware. Ford rules trucks.
it was the 2015 F-150 that got me. The redesign looked good and the ability of alluminum to resist the rusting problem that dodge is famous for is invaluable. Been driving my aluminum body f-150 for 5 years now in canada and still no corrosion. Next to zero maintenance other than air filters and oil changes.
He does not have a clue what he is even talking about you don't have to take off the top of the motor to change the starter on a Toyota pickup truck brain dead
When I was a little kid I remember seeing one of those and telling my parents that I want that when I am old enough to drive. They were cool with it because my Mom had an 85 Crown Vic that was solid as could be and my Dad a 95 Crown Vic that was solid as could be. It was my first car. Got a "junky" one at 300k miles for like 200 bucks and I got it to 450k before he went to truck heaven. I'd own one right now.
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 V6 4 speed Automatic has 321,000 miles on it with Original drive train no rebuild or new replacement runs like new daily driver🐺
@@_E_B_ it's not tired full of life it 'll go another 150,000 easy 🐸 my 1987 Mustang GT has over 600,000 miles mostly highway miles it drove all over the USA over 32 years of driving still never let me down drive train still original just keep up the maintenance it go on and on very reliable🐸
@@relaxingthesoulmind1879 Not saying its tired like it's going to break down. Its tired like it doesnt run like it did when it had 20k miles. Its physically and mechanically impossible to say it does. Doesnt matter how well taken care of it is or how much maintenance is done on it. 321,000 is alot. And yes...if properly maintained I'm quite sure it'll last another 100k. But it is a tired engine....not an engine that quit...just tired.
Good Review Scotty, I used to be a loyal Silverado enthusiast. Back in “13, I looked at all the equivalents of the F150 in depth and also reviewed the recalls for all. The Silverado’s list of recalls was far too numerous to even be considered as viable. If you were going to work the truck hard as a contractor probably would, the Toyota was built like a tank but fuel mileage sucked. I went with the F-150 FX2 with a 5.0. They tried to sell me an Ecoboost but I knew the V8 was the most reliable. 5 yrs later, everyone asks to buy my truck when I go to sell it. They just don’t realize, I have no intentions of ever selling it. Best truck I’ve ever owned.
So you know, that doesn’t apply to the trucks and I know it doesn’t apply to the 2013 year models of trucks. I’ve looked it up every year just because I wanted to follow up on my criteria. Look it up!!!
@@iamtheoffenderofall ya cause ford fixed there problems unlike GM and dodge crap. Look up TSBs. GM and dodge hide them and until they are forced to do a recall
Not just that ...check the ford sales, durability ,interior, exterior, everything in f150 puick ups is alot superior than any competition ,,i drive a f150 2013 limited ..some friends have 2015 2016 rams and sierra dont even get close to my f150 engine...competition almost never improving same 5.3 6.0 6.2 ..5.7 same everything
The F150 is great. Towed a minivan on dolly, and the f150 with the 5.something V8 is a beast. Although I was gentle with it, it felt like a charm and very soft for towing. Fords are mechanic and customer friendly. Not expensive to fix. By the way, thanks Mr. Scotty Kilmer on sharing about the pricey swap on a Tundra. I guess I'll stick on buying a good-usedF150 in a near future.
I just rolled over 260,000 kms on my 2013 F150 5.0. It was my first new vehicle and Id break down its usage as approximately 30% on terrible dirt/mud roads in the oil patch, 50% on my long highway commutes, and 20% towing my 6800 lb 5th wheel through the BC mountains. Its my office and my daily driver. I did....ok with maintenance. I was young and dumb at first, and dragged out the oil changes a bit long. I've since wised up with that, and have done as much of my own work as possible - plugs, control arms and recently struts. A couple weeks ago I was having a crises, of my own making - the one fluid I never touched was the transmission fluid. So I read up about it obsessively and learned of the big debate around changing tranny fluid for the first time on high mileage vehicles. I went ahead and (nervously) had it done anyway, and its running like new again. I just got back from an annual 1800 km trip towing through BC and it didn't skip a beat. I did stop and let it idle once on a very long climb because the transmission hit 104, but it cooled quickly and away I went. I run full synthetic Amsoil and always premium when towing. I haven't been kind to my F150, but it has been an amazing vehicle. The only mechanical issue I had was a rear diff bearing at 220k, so that was rebuilt. Everything else is expected routine maintenance. If youre on the fence about an F150, just listen to Scotty, they have perfected these trucks.
got a 2010 f150 4.6 3v not a real powerhouse but does the job easy to maintain and gets 25 on the highway only got 55k on it and dont plan on getting a new one for a long time
Same truck, 2010 4.6 3v. It’s not a powerhouse like already mentioned but if I’m running 65 or 70 and put it to the floor the damn thing comes alive and scoots.
Damn that's great to hear fellas! It's great to hear that these little rangers are still puttering along with such high milage. In 2015 I picked up a 2001 ranger edge 3.0l v6 5 speed manual trans.with 190000k miles on it and i have only put about 3000k miles on her I hardly drive her but little by little I been fixing her up. Just a few months ago I had the timing chain cover replaced because it was leaking antifreeze but next big fix will be the clutch and maybe the rear main seal because i think it's leaking oil.
I agree with Scotty. I have f250 2000 5.4L V8 2 valves with 5 speed 5zf transmission, 4x4. All original, runs like new, everything works. Truck has 415K. I don't want any other truck!
I have 2 F150s. A 2000 XLT 5.4 2V with 258k still runs fine, and a 2008 XLT 5.4 3V 74k. Replaced oil pump on both with high output, and keep up on your oil changes. Neither truck has ever let me down. Triton engines need good oil at all times.
@@Silent_Shadow That's how I lost my 03 f150 5.4. Oil pump went out, and my engine locked up. I loved the truck, but from 97-03 all these trucks had vaccum problems, deep in-dash problems, spark plug problems, brake problems...all those problems were common...I. had a 97' and a 03 model. Now i have a grand marquis and I still see some similar problems as well!

I love my Ranger 4.0 OHV. She pulls everything I need her to and starts everytime I turn the key. My first vehicle from 6 years ago and still running strong.
My sister went to get some grass for the yard and she came back with a full pallet on that ranger, I don't know how that ranger holded that much weight and the tires too A cop just look at her passing by....
It’s amazing, my Grandfather would tell me since I was little, he’d point to an F-150 and tell me best truck you can get. I kinda just wanted to get a truck when I was in the oilfield and made regular trips to oil mecas like Dallas and Houston hauling parts, and I have to say, other than wear and tear this truck has gotten me through 150,000 miles with little trouble, my grandfather is validated in this video, thank you! Keep delivering the truth!
2015 f250 6.7, 135k miles, no issues. My dad drives a 2011 6.7, 400k plus miles, he uses it hard (full time ranching and farming) and loves it. I watched him put 540k on a 2000 7.3 before that and he HATED to get rid of it, but after hard use for 10 years it just needed a lot of work. Still 540k is not bad at all for any vehicle, let alone a ranch pickup.
That's the thing though, too. Many trucks *aren't* worked. They sit there collecting deposits, rust, etc. which shortens their lifespan. They gotta heat up and breath to get things circulated well and kept in order. Most folks just don't do that.
mines at 177k, all original stuff besides alternator and suspension stuff. still running strong all though i need new plugs and coils 😅 but thats okay shes been good to me
These car brands people are having a war over its really just choice over anything its what works for you i have a chevy Silverado 1996 with the 4.3 liter vortec with 680000 miles we had a 7.3 liter powerstroke that had almost 467000 so really its what works best for you if your ford works keep it if your chevy works keep it if your toyota works keep it. Its all about what works for you.
@@hanzgruber8676 06 silverado here. Day time running lights are out. Been like that since I bought it 3 years ago. I did a led conversion to the rear due to my back up and brake light would always go out every few months.
You commented about starter location in a Tundra. I had a Honda CRV that needed a new starter. I couldn't find it. I crawled around under the CRV. Popped the hood. Looked through the fender wells. It just wasn't there. Turns out Honda hid it, just like in the Tundra, except this was a 4 cylinder, so you think it would be hard to hide. Nope. To change it, you had to remove the battery. Remove all of the air intake plastic and filter box. Then finally unbolt the intake manifold, which was hooked to life support with about a dozen hoses, then slide the manifold sideways across the front of the car into the open area formerly occupied by the air intake stuff and the battery. And there it was, in plain site, just like that Tundra starter.. It took me about 5 minutes to replace the starter and about 2 or 3 hours figuring out how to get to it and put it all back together. The engineers should be required by law to disassemble and reassemble brakes, starters, front end suspension components, radiators, heater motors, and all of the other common repair stuff on a dozen 10 year old vehicles that were driven in the rust rust belt, and do it on a 35 degree day in the wind out on a gravel driveway, before they even touch a computer to do their first design. They might fix a few of their own stupid designs if they were required to work on them first.
Well I doubt an engineer made the decision to put the starter there. But in any case yes very annoying. I have a 94 honda prelude. Starter is on the front bottom left side of the engine, easily accessible, 4 bolts, would likely take me ten minutes to replace.
@@drewb242 If not an engineer, who? That's what engineers do. They design things. The bean counters might have some influence in the cost to build the vehicle, as in "the engine can't cost more than $XXX.xx", but I doubt a bean counter, secretary, or janitor said "Hide the starter between the frame of the car and the intake manifold. They'll never think to look for it there". It's possible the Engineer or Engineering team that did the engine design designed everything except the starter location and were left with an area that allowed the starter to physically fit, but it was a horrible location, so they used it, but it was still an engineer that made that choice.
My buddy was die hard Chevy man and bought a tundra. He was also a mechanic. He died young though. I would choose one of the two. Do you research and read the reviews on year body and engine
Make sure you DO NOT get one with the 5.4L 3 valve V8 it’s one of the worst motors ever built. Get the worst mileage of any truck I’ve ever owned motors go out frequently and are extremely expensive to replace, I like my f150 and I’ve owned plenty of all three brand trucks, I’m not a fanboy of any brand and I don’t hate any brand, all three brands are good they all have strong years and bad years. This is an honest opinion do not for any reason but the f150 with the 5.4L 3 valve (even though you find them for sale everywhere for super cheap)
@@jedidiahadeloye538 Bought a 2012 F150 brand new. In the last 8 years, the only thing I've had to fix was a $15 blower motor resistor going out. Still drives as good as the day I bought it. I own 2003 F150, Triton 4.6V8, 263,000kms on it, going well. May trade in with a newer model as it is about time, and other than gas mileage, I am fully satisfied with it.
Yeah and Toyota rarely gets used for any real type of work either and yet the big 3 are not far away in reliability. That says alot right there. Look at which trucks are hauling trailers and/or loads. Here's a hint....it's not Tundra's. Whenever I see a Tundra it's empty and not pulling any trailer. I'm not hating or anything I'm just saying what I see. So of course it might be more reliable because it's not getting beat up or put to heavy work. Something to think about when you factor it in the reliability rating next time. Simply put there's alot of good reasons why the F150 sells like it does for so many years and that is that it's a great truck obviously !!!
@@davidh8755 yeah... I don't think you know what you're talking about lol. Look up "million mile Tundra". Used for oil work. Always hauling a heavy trailer and lasted 1,000,000+ miles with minimum repairs. Truck was only put out of service because Toyota bought it back to take it apart and strengthen the components that wore the most.
@@Not_my_4te He said "rarely" get used for real work. Which is true. I've literally never seen a Tundra doing any work other than getting groceries or driving around as a glam truck. Not denying it *could* be used for work, or that it probably is in some places. Overall, Americans just don't see it as a work truck. I've got 2 Tundras in the family, too. They're good trucks. I never owned a truck, but when I found out Ford F-150 was lightweight aluminum body, I decided to get a 2017 F-150 XLT supercab 2WD with 5.0 Coyote V8. First new vehicle I ever purchased. I have had the truck for one year, and put 32,000 miles on it. There has not been a single "warranty repair" fault with this truck to date. Fuel economy on one trip meter, never reset since the truck was purchased is 20.5 MPG _average_ city/highway. This is excellent for a V8 truck. Aluminum body FTW. And the 5.0 sounds great, even with the factory single exhaust. 0 to 60 is in the low 5 second range... what more could you ask for from a 33,000 $ work/utility vehicle?

In the outstanding book “The Millionaire Next Door” the late Thomas J. Stanley reported the vehicle most owned and driven by real millionaires is the F-150. A lot of millionaires own construction businesses, are miners, etc. Many of the guys driving Mercedes and BMW are “aspirational” wealthy people with heavily financed or leased vehicles trying to impress others. Stanley called them “Big Hat, No Cattle.”
Everybody should read that book. Seriously, it's worth your while. Everything in that book is true. I speak from, um, personal experience. You wanna be rich, you have to act like a rich person. Keep your modest car forever, buy everything second hand or used, decorate your house with antiques and vintage stuff (they appreciate), and shop at thrift stores. Put your money in appreciating assets, like stocks, real estate, or a business. Designer clothes and fancy cars are for poor people.
Had a 1998 Ford F-150 with the 5.4. The head gasket failed at 160,000 , but that’s because we didn’t check the oil for over 5,000 miles. They are reliable and cheap to maintain, but human mistakes will always screw over good cars.
Currently own 2017 F-150, my second Ford truck and 4th Ford vehicle overall. Never had the slightest issue with any of them, and in love with my truck! I agree the F-150 is the best you can get.
Cameron Kelson then why get rid of them? I never understood when people say “this is the. 8th ford I’ve owned and all of them have been great!” To each their own but I still have the same truck from 11 years ago . Sure I’ve added to my fleet but that truck has lasted
@@Donmud First one unfortunately got totaled, but I thankfully walked away without a scratch. Second one I drove to about 140K and then sold cause I needed a truck. I have a 2009 F150 5.4 with 256,000 miles only problems I’ve had with it was ignition coils and the blower for the heater went out... That was a cold winter so I ended up driving around with a generator in the bed and a space heater for 2 months 😂
Scotty's videos are some of the best at TH-cam- MUCH appreciated. As a Tundra owner, one point I would make is that repairs are so rare that it could be argued that the higher cost of repairs for newer models isn't sufficient justification to favor the Fords (with more repairs needed, sooner vs a Tundra) over the tundras. Just my opinion, of course.
Over the years my dad had am F100, Dodge Ram, and a Scottsdale Chevy. I'm a Dodge (Ram) guy myself. Scotty I was a little disappointed on how easily you ruled out Mopars blaming the Italian diesel. I wont ever get an Eco Diesel (they should have went with the 1/2 ton cummins) but the two Hemis and Cummins are good motors. Even before the Hemi the 5.9 Magnums were a pretty reliable motor as well. Just sticking up for the Dodge Brothers
@Marie MERCURY Curie Marie MERCURY Curie does it? When my time comes to upgrade I'll still consider it - no matter what though, it'll be a Mopar (I love my Mopars like Scotty here likes his blue ovals)

Dylan .M im not hurting, its true! i wouldnt say quality has been going down for decades maybe for one decade. ever since they went bankrupt in 09 the quality has been crap. me and my whole family only buy GM cars (since the 40s) now im forced to buy used ones (before 2008) to be honest, it pisses me off!
@Brenley Forrester well they would fit on roads, at least most of, but problem are parking space in towns and cities. I saw some US made pickups and SUVs here, they really jump out by size relativ to other cars.
I think it is the owner, not the truck. I can't speak on a Ford because I never owned one but I bought my Chevy new in 1998 and took proper care of it. Still have it today in great shape 260k miles later.
Not true. My company has a fleet of thousands of pickups. Company has been around for nearly 100 years. They used to buy Chevy's, Dodge's and Fords. At the end of a decade of hard work, there were mostly Fords left, and the company has just switched to Fords exclusively.
i have a 1988 chev with 2,5 million kms in it. it breaks all the time and costs more than it's worth every year to keep running. but that's because it's been on employees' hands since 2009. it was fine up to that point
I love my Chevy's that I drive I'd never own a Ford honestly so fare my Chevy trucks stay pretty strong and as long as the oil is maintained the engine will last a long time of no problems in it's life time my old 99 Chevy Silverado 3 quarter ton truck has over 300k on my 6.0L V8 beast the rear end never gave out on that and it does allot of pulling and I'm proud of it for how long it lasted and its got a automatic transmission that hasn't never gave out too I'm surprised it had no problems I hate to see what might give out if something bad happens on it between the engine or transmission or transfer case or rear end it's definitely gonna break the bank I try to baby it as much as I can
Yeah, but as a Ford fanatic, I will admit the 350 is the ahit for gas engines but nobody has the visual appeal of a Ford nor the ride and quiet nature while still having the animal under hood that Ford has always had. Maybe not the best but show me a gm in any form and it looks ugly when next to any Ford, save the pregnant roller skate economy boxes.
Sadly that’s true. My co worker has a 2010 Silverado with barely 96,000 miles and already it’s on its second transmission and starting to have shifting issues again!
We must be lucky then; No major repairs on any of our 5 chevy trucks, ranging from model year 1993 to 2017. The biggest thing we ever had to do was put new brake lines on our 98 silverado because its a plow truck that spreads salt. That poor thing has been beaten to death plowing snow and shows no drivetrain problems whatsoever. Sure, sometimes these trucks might end up needing a new alternator every 10 years or so, but so does any Ford or Ram.
Had a 2014 f-150, this is the worst quality truck I have ever owned, started having transmission problems at 70k miles, second set of tires started warring unevenly, the enfotainment system never worked right, DON’T KNOW WHAT SCOTTY IS TALKING ABOUT, FORD BEING BEST IN QUALITY, I DON’T THINK SO!!!!!!!!!!
U need to chamge them when the truck is at operating temperature because carbon softens up and the metal expand so come out a lot easier but you only do it for that engine
@@20502chris I love working on vehicles that are hot kinda gives you a scare factor makes it more exciting. never wear gloves exhaust systems are a real challenge!
Traitor. Apparently some of us want to pretend Pearl Harbor never happened. Tundras may be built in the U.S. but they are still Japanese trucks with profits flowing to a Japanese company. Iran took some Americans hostage 40 years ago, they returned them unharmed, but they are still our sworn enemy to this day - now that's how you do it.
If you can get 1 million miles on a truck with the original engine and transmission, then that is a solid truck. That's why I don't bother buying a new truck. I've read about, and seen pictures of 3 different gen 10 f150s that have passed 1 million miles on the original engine. Think one of them had to rebuild the transmission twice though.

@@Blakely901 Still an awesome pickup, 3 years now no issues. It's a 2010 and in mint condition. The previous owner took great care of it and I do as well!
Best truck I've had was a 1995 single cab F150 w/ straight 6 engine 5sp. Great ride, great mileage. Not a tow vehicle but fine for bed loads. Eddie Bauer edition. Look at their resale today, 23 yrs later, & it's crazy. You can't kill that straight 6. Should never have sold it.
That 300 cu. inch inline "6" or 4.9 litre if you're a youngun is without doubt the best truck engine ever made. And if you couldn't tow with it you had the wrong rear end. A bunch of folks like the high gears because of mileage, but that gearing will kill you for towing. For a service truck it just flat could not be beat. It was initially designed and used as an industrial engine. Really beefy bottom end with an extra main bearing, industrial duty connecting rods and so forth. Keep em cool, keep the oil and filter changed and the RPMs below 4000 they wore like iron. Ask any air conditioning guy, electrician or plumber what the most bulletproof engine they ever used the old Ford inline "6" is the winner every time.
Its true though, I have a 2007 Avalon and every time I have to do work under the hood, I have to take apart 67 different things just to get to the problem.
That’s because its a 6 cylinder, ever worked on a 4 cylinder? They are a dream to work on, especially the Corollas and the Tacomas, Usually replace an alternator on one of them or starter in about 15-20 mins.
Good job scotty. Luv ya. My 78 Electra I've been driving for over 8 years i love the quality but I've just got a 98 f150 v6 4.2. I love it and it's twice better on gas than my old electra. For 3 grand I can't beat it, this truck has 122k on it and it rides great
My Dad bought a brand new 2014 tundra , he had the transmission work done on it which was fixed under warranty and now he is having rear end issues that is now not covered under warranty and also having issues with his door locks not locking and it only has 110k miles on it , my 2011 f150 125k miles just routine maintenance no issues
slicaltimistical1 Scotty’s right when I traded my 2013 F150 Super Crew 4x4 5.0 V8. For a 2017 Tacoma 4x4 V6 I was in for a rude awakening , my Tacoma got worse fuel economy, was slower, shifted poorly , rode real rough, traded in the Tacoma after a year, lucky for me the Tacoma did not depreciate a lot, no more Toyota Tacoma’s for me
Cessna 152 Airman I mean , Consumer Reports when they rated the most reliable car brands, Toyota got #2 (behind their own luxury brand Lexus), they said the Tacoma was the least reliable Toyota bc of its transmission.
Taco is a good truck, but it’s garbage in performance department. It’s just... sufficient as well as very very reliable. Tundra I can’t say. No matter how much I think the Sierra looks better, the F150 is a better truck. I am in forestry, I see enough to have a reasonable view. F250 and 350 are better but most have no need for these.
My experience led me to this... Not a work truck - Chevy 1/2 ton Working truck - Ford 3/4 ton Heavy Duty truck - Dodge 1 ton Which do you think is the most applicable to the average truck buyer... exactly, there is no "average" truck buyer. People will pick a truck because of loyalty, a certain engine, a certain look, a certain transmission, they only have Those specialized tools, etc... As long as you get a truck that has been maintained, taken care of, & not thrashed on you'll be more than fine. I chose GM trucks because that's what I learned how to maintain & my old man had all the tools already. It could have just as easily been Ford, Mopar, Toyota, etc... Everything has its problems, it just comes down to : Are you doing your part to take care of it, or not?
The real question is whether it will be as good as the old Ranger. A turbocharged engine and a 10 speed automatic as standard equipment and no options? I like to shift for myself.
@@danc1197 Wrong. The Ranger is not and never was based on the Explorer. It's body on frame. You may want to stop getting your information from social media comment sections.
I'm still driving cars and trucks from the 90's. For the longest time I drove Chevys. Never owned a Ford pickup up until recently, I just bought a 1990 F-350 Centurion Crew Cab longbed 4x4 dually with a 7.5L. So far, I have to say it's the best truck I've ever owned. I've owned 15 chevy pickups in my life (and I did always like them), 1 dodge (did not like that one), and none of them compare to my F-350
Dunno my last company and the company im at now both switched to nissan. I always liked the ford rangers.never got locked out. If i forgot my keys in the car i just stick the antena in the hole under the handle and break in.
I have a Tundra 5.7. Best truck I've owned by far. I also drove many F-250's while working for a lawn care outfit before going solo. I liked them & they can definitely work.
Scotty I have an 07 Camry that burns oil like crazy..... I heard these all do that no matter how well they we’re taken care of....do you still think Toyota is the best or have they been dropping the ball in the last 10 years? I’d really appreciate if you could address this question with a video.
I believe there was a recall on those engines for that specific reason. Call your local dealer and ask if there's any recourse. Their quality isn't what it used to be.
I work at a Toyota dealer. We still do engine rebuilds or engine replacements on affected vehicles at no charge . Did a RAV4 last month. Call your local Toyota dealer and get an oil consumption test done.
@@matte8441 that's correct. Toyota replaced the piston and piston rings on my 2008 Scion TC, and gave me a free rental car for the time being, all for free. Great Toyota service. You wont see any American car company do that.
Another reason for the F series success, especially the F-150, is that starting about 1985 or so, Ford started outsourcing all of their parts but built to their specs. If a part needed a recall because it was built badly that manufacturer had to eat the cost - not Ford. That decision really lowered Ford's production/labor cost. They kept the engines and transmission division which game them total control of the power and durability. I might be prejudiced towards Ford because of my 1991 Ford Explorer XLT which I bought new. Now has 204K miles and still going strong. I have rebuilt the engine once (myself) and replaced the transmission twice. Not bad. not bad at all.
@@JamesofJesus A lot depends on the weight of the vehicle and how it is driven. The engine was 4.0L OHV cast iron V6 of vintage design, mated with a relatively light duty four speed automatic. Unless it was driven very moderately, two engines and three transmissions over 204K miles is not so bad. A vehicle payment can be $500 a month these days.
My mothers 2005 explorer with 4.0 has had the same engine and transmission for 185,000 miles so far. She loves that vehicle more than me sometimes i think lol
I have two f-150s my 1994 V8 with a manual transmission has never once left me stranded. I've never had to tow it and I've had it for 20 years and will keep it until it dies. I recently got a 2015 f-150 with the 5.0 V8, have had it for 3 years now and I absolutely love it. I've driven silverados for work and they've typically been crap. Though I did drive a 2007 Silverado 3500 diesel for about 5 years at work and it pulled a trailer every day in the summer and pushed a plow in the winter. That beast was very reiliable, but when my boss replaced it with a 2017 3500 Silverado, that truck was always in the shop! I've driven the wheels off a ford 7.3 diesel with 525k miles and we replaced it with a ford 2020 6.7 diesel and so far it's been great. The truck gets great gas mileage for a superduty. I think I'll stick with Ford. Though I admit, I have no experience with dodge or Toyota
Hey Scotty. Can you make a video explaining why Toyota trucks always have this issue of their frames rusting so quickly when you don't see this problem with Fords or Chevy trucks? I owned 2 Toyota Tacomas in the past and both had issues with rusty frames and I live in CA where there's no excuse like salt from icy roads, etc.
Mark Nguyen As I understand it, an American company that makes the frames did a poor job of cleaning the frames before corrosion proofing them. Toyota is replacing frames under a 3 billion dollar recall. For the life of me, I can’t understand why they didn’t just settle with the customers instead of rebuilding the entire truck around a new frame. Several TH-cam videos of the frame being replaced. I wouldn’t want one.

Good Review Scotty,
I used to be a loyal Silverado enthusiast.
So you know, and you can look this up, Ford has the most recalls per vehicle out of ALL manufacturers.
So you know, that doesn’t apply to the trucks and I know it doesn’t apply to the 2013 year models of trucks. I’ve looked it up every year just because I wanted to follow up on my criteria.
Look it up!!!

Did you buy one yet
Nah he ended up with a Nissan
That's the amazing thing about Ford truck, even if you aren't kind to your truck, it will go above and beyond for you.

Amen

Yeah and Toyota rarely gets used for any real type of work either and yet the big 3 are not far away in reliability. That says alot right there. Look at which trucks are hauling trailers and/or loads. Here's a hint....it's not Tundra's. Whenever I see a Tundra it's empty and not pulling any trailer. I'm not hating or anything I'm just saying what I see. So of course it might be more reliable because it's not getting beat up or put to heavy work.

Not a work truck - Chevy 1/2 ton
Working truck - Ford 3/4 ton
Heavy Duty truck - Dodge 1 ton
Which do you think is the most applicable to the average truck buyer... exactly, there is no "average" truck buyer.

Not so bad? That's a transmission every 68, xxx miles and an engine every 102k. That isn't "good" at all. Maybe the quality of the rebuild was bad,?
My mothers 2005 explorer with 4.0 has had the same engine and transmission for 185,000 miles so far. She loves that vehicle more than me sometimes i think lol
My 2000 Toyota 4runner has 230k miles with 0 leaks and doesn't burn any oil and shifts smooth as ever with minimal maintenance
@@TempoMontages my 98 4runnner is at 260k and has never had major repairs. I have to replace the valve cover gaskets but that's a project for me :)
As a person who mostly drives a Chevy Suburban, I do have to say that Ford F series is a better looking vehicle than the new Chevrolet pick up.
I love the,f150 damn good truck
I am a ford guy always have been ford has had its down falls like the 6.0 power stroke but bullet proof them and you can get 450k + miles
the 6.0 wasnt even bad..........when compared to the 6.4! that is a major 100% turd. powerstroke help guy says it keeps him in business
I agree the 6.4 was trash
Thanks Scotty! I own a 2001 F150 5.4L super crew 151k miles and runs great just change the oil and take care of it. Hauls 1200 lbs of rock no issue 😉
You just can't beat the F-150 and Super Duty. Our family has run these since they were the 100's and they are awesome.
They probably don't even coat it.
Lol the frame is the only thing you won't have problems with. Chev frames bag their issues rotting out behind the cab too
Mark Nguyen As I understand it, an American company that makes the frames did a poor job of cleaning the frames before corrosion proofing them. Toyota is replacing frames under a 3 billion dollar recall. For the life of me, I can’t understand why they didn’t just settle with the customers instead of rebuilding the entire truck around a new frame. Several TH-cam videos of the frame being replaced. I wouldn’t want one.

Had to do with the shape of the frame in the early 2000s. It’s not much of a problem 2008- present.
SCOTTY WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT TURBO VS SUPERCHARGER WHAT WOULD YOU GO FOR ?
He'd go for supercharger, It's a less complicated design. He's already got a video about it.
@@humansvd3269 I was looking didn't see a video where he compared both ,pros & cons
He make that video already ;)
The main pros for the supercharger he mentioned was easier installation and cheaper it's why he recommended it.
Check the video about toyota corolla I asked him on how to make it faster he said that supercharger is better and less complicated
