Yes small numbers and no navy. But because they only really controlled one city and no ports, Total War is about building up your own empire, not following history, if Sparta had say conquered Athens then maybe they would have built a navy and enlarged their armies.
I'm making a mod "Spartan's are REAL MEN!" All spartan units have max morale and health, max ammo (they have javelins) spears and swords. Also, one new unit the "Spartan 300" which is invincible and has 300 men, and when one person kills a man the whole unit falls.
According to CA greeks were allergic to swords. In fact hoplites did carried swords as secondary weapons. CA should have added hoplite swordsmen, or to be more historical accurate give them a ''draw swords'' ability
I appreciate that you upload your defeats as well as your victories, heir. As fun as it is to watch you kick ass, it's also fun (in the most well meaning way possible) to see scenarios in which you're beaten.
But the factions should also make sense, and I'm not certain a sword unit would make much sense for Sparta to field. I guess mercenaries would work, but Greece was never known for its swordsmen.
Hjerrick They had Perioci, who were not citizens but not slaves, basically farmers. They could have one fairly good unit of them as swordsmen as they could be fairly wealthy.
Hjerrick They Spartans used a unique sword to them, the Lakonia short sword. The Spartans should be given a Hoplite Short Sword unit which will be very unique to the faction.
Spartans did not retreat. When the messenger delivered the news to a mother saying that his son died in combat the mother didn't cry. She asked: where was he hit? If he was hit in the front then he would be honoured. But if he was hit by a sword or arrow in the back then he dishonored whole Sparta and his family. His family will also have to live in shame
Heir, I noticed that you sometimes forget about your general abilities, which could have helped you in this close match. You seemed like you had a long day so I'll let it slide lol
Heir, it's entirely logical that melee cav gains a bonus against spears as spears are infantry. They also ought to have a bonus against skirmishers as a result.
I'm gonna be fighting an all-cav army in a little while as Sparta... would I be best off taking just slingers as my missile contingent, to deal with the horse archers? Or would cretan archers be a better choice
You should really use the rapid charge ability on some of the spears to catch him off guard and deal more damage in the charge, unless the fatigue is that bad?
it does not matter how capable they are, if they are plaid by a moron who refuses to play them to their strength (defensive - use the hill, ffs!); even the most potent army would lose, if their commander had some shizophrenic idea of how war _ought_ to be, rather than playing to win and using all the terrain to their advantage. Why does he even call himself "Heir of Carthage"? - sure he can't be related to Hannibal, for that glaring lack of common sense; for that glorious bastard always used the terrain to his advantage! Heir should renounce his pseudonym...
That cav charge was a good idea, I think you left them engaged a little too long though, maybe should have broken free to have a run at his archers. Having said that, maybe disengaging would have lost you a lot of men, I dunno if that is still the case...
In Rome 1, there were no hoplites, they were all essentially pikemen. They also never broke their spears, they merely used swords when enemies got too close.
Heir I dont play muc MP but did complete my first campaign with sparta so I im fairly familiar with the faction. If u are playing a RL opponent like in your fight against jonasee dont u loose all of the buffs sparta get with their abilities if u are forced to attack your nme instead of somehow enticing/forcing them to attack/charge you which means u can then receive the hoplite phalanx stat boosts and their bonus they get for receiving a charging nme. Cant even remember if it works on both infantry and cavalry charges for sparta and its been some time since I have played them so I dont even know if they still have that passive bonus on top of the phalanx and formation attack tbh. I know its easier said then done when watching with regard to getting your nme to attack u but was wondering if thats what spartan youths b good for! Throw away units to antgonise your nme with and force them to assualt your phalanx formed up more expensive units?
sorry for posting this here but i need help.. so i've had a problem lately. Rome is crashing... Its not just the game, the wole computer freezes and i have to turn ot off and on. I dont know what the problem is, like i dont have the highest graphics and the game is running fine. I dont know what i should do about? Anyone?
Heir I play as Sparta alot and as i went along and tryed new things ive noticed that Sparta is very good with pikemen even tho they are cheap but they are very important in the army. Sparta historically adopted Macidonian pikes. Just some friendly advice maybe try it out sometime. have a good day Dominator5858
Ik a lot of people think sparta isnt very good in this game but the ive won plenty of online battles with them just dont hoplite spam pike spam instead. Those higher armor peltast are great to. Bring a shit loaf of both and a hero as gen with two cav to protect pikes flanks then you are good. win all the time with this build.
Hey Heir. U should try Radious Rome 2 overhaul + Kaziels Romans + Bullgods unit cards(they are amazing) + TTT submod(changes traits\traditions\houshold etc) + GEM\Ancient colors(makes graphics look AMAZING and improves fps by A LOT). All these mods combined transform the game into unforgettable experience, in comparison Vanilla is non existent. The other day I've had a 53 minute Siege of Medhlan battle, 2 roman legions vs 8k barbarians. I had to maneuver, intercept reinforcements and lay ambushes all in 1 battle, and then of course there was the city assault during wich my legions took heavy losses due to barbarians making a last stand till the last man. Vanilla is a 2 minute arcade roflstomp. I enjoy watching u do campaigns but every time I watch a battle it feels arcade and in comparison to my experience its bad.
I've got to agree with +Freshbricks125, I stopped using Radious because it just makes the campaign a lot easier. Also, it adds so many units that each faction almost feels the same because they have all have the same pro's and cons.
Chris Vaughan but in this video he picked showed some of the cheaper spearman units. i am pretty sure the champions have a sword too but it isnt used in animations. like ever.
I find it really weird how swords have an advantage over spears in these games. Spears are superior to swords in every way. Especially when you are in formation
Not strictly true in every situation. Only applies if you can keep an enemy at the edge of your reach. Have you ever tried wielding spear with a shield? It's quite difficult to control the tip, and your angles of attack are quite limited. Plus, once enemy is inside your range the spear becomes nearly useless. Then you have to ditch it and draw your sword. Roman army at the height of their military might pretty much bypassed spear stage and equipped their frontline soldiers with a gladius and scutum. They would throw their pilum at a very close range(2 of them, according to some records) and slam into enemy formation basically rendering spears at the front of a formation useless. Shock troops could beat slowly creeping shieldwall with spears with appropriate tactics and discipline.
+Chris Vaughan If you want to be nice sure do it. If you want to play a game and use what you can to win you do that. Using whats around you is basic strategy in war
" but in online battles when both players have artillery, every fight starts off by bombarding each other" - do you have any idea what skirmishers were meant to do? These quick-battle clowns and their distorted expectancies of how white-washed battles should be (just look at these dull, flat maps all the time... and when finally there is something remotely interesting about a given map, they bitch on it and refuse to utilize the terrain... RETARDS!). You people ruin this franchise (atop of what the programmers inflict upon it already) PS: you sound like whiny noobs wanting to ban the use of certain weapons in an online-shooter, caiming it was "OP"; "Sniper? - can't have that! " "It's no use arguing with him" - says the guy who refuses to listen to reason (or [historic] facts for that matter). I love Dunning Kruger effect... either that or hating it, but I prefer to stay positive in this regard. It is, after all, entertaining to watch!
Sparta needs a 'No retreat' on some of their units...
no retreat at heros of sparta cuz they have less units than a regular unit
Sparta should just have no retreat on all their units that aren’t helots , cavalry, mercenaries, siege engines
Spartans never retreated in battle. Ever.
@@dapperchap1535 I believe they did at leuctra against thebes
Yey
For historical accuracy CA should really just give Spartan Hoplites/Pikemen ridiculous morale, that should be the bonus of Sparta.
And small numbers. And no navy at all. During the era of Rome, Sparta was in major decline. It will not happen cause its a game.
Yes small numbers and no navy. But because they only really controlled one city and no ports, Total War is about building up your own empire, not following history, if Sparta had say conquered Athens then maybe they would have built a navy and enlarged their armies.
TheGreekSpawn
while we are talking about history, sparta should get freed helot pikemen and hoplites
if you want historical accuracy enjoy not having more than like 10 units of spartan hoplites
I'm making a mod "Spartan's are REAL MEN!" All spartan units have max morale and health, max ammo (they have javelins) spears and swords. Also, one new unit the "Spartan 300" which is invincible and has 300 men, and when one person kills a man the whole unit falls.

thorax hoplites/thorax swords
that Would not be balanced if they could change tô sword or spear lol
+χρονης κ. based Onde history and balance.
By the way, hoplites could throw their spears and draw out their swords historically, but the game does not have that and that's a real bummer.
There were Macedonian hypastists who were a light hotplate unit that used the sword occasionally
Spartans. What is your profession?
AAAAOOOOOOO!!!
AAAAOOOOOOO!!!
AAAAOOOOOOO!!!
Aaand..thats fucking Hollywood...
TheGreekSpawn.......aaannnd....who caressssssssssssss..................................
Wait what did the guy with 29 likes say ? He's comment is blank for me
AAAAOOOOOOO!!!
AAAAOOOOOOO!!!
AAAAOOOOOOO!!! lol
I appreciate that you upload your defeats as well as your victories, heir. As fun as it is to watch you kick ass, it's also fun (in the most well meaning way possible) to see scenarios in which you're beaten.
Still missing a sword unit, most other factions still have multiple ways to beat them. They need atleast one decent sword unit.

Erick Martinez
+1
Hjerrick
They still had them.
Nice video.
I hope they make the Peloponnesian war as an expansion.
***** It'll be another fucking dlc that we have to pay moaaaaarr money for.
well i guess you got your wish, thats what th next dlc is i believe
Bitch, you guessed it
Tim The Trancendent wooO! You was right!
Darien Norman
ikr????!!!!!! haha

Take a look at advisor...
Is he lost? He's countrymen are on the other side.. haha
In my mind the advisor is simply a mercenary. And a very busy/wealthy one at that, seeing how he is employed by every playable faction in the game.
the men are WAVEering
I think hes a minor deity, he does seem to be immortal
Heir, don't forget your unit abilities. They can help quite a bit.
18:49
At times like these it would of actually really helped to use your generals ability's like war cry
About time. Been waiting for this faction. Thanks man.
I can't believe they didn't put a sword unit there, seriously you certainly didn't forget this in the trailer.
Heir, it's entirely logical that melee cav gains a bonus against spears as spears are infantry. They also ought to have a bonus against skirmishers as a result.
They did have an roster expansion look at the cretan archers and rhodian slingers
im kinda new to the game and roaster. i love Peltast behind line of Royal spartans. it take's seconds to take out full frontline .
I'm gonna be fighting an all-cav army in a little while as Sparta... would I be best off taking just slingers as my missile contingent, to deal with the horse archers? Or would cretan archers be a better choice
Archers, lowers their morale and kills them quicker
TheProvinceOfGaming
Thanks, I'll give it a go :)
You should really use the rapid charge ability on some of the spears to catch him off guard and deal more damage in the charge, unless the fatigue is that bad?
Can Spartan Periokoi Hoplites hold the line against Roman Legionaires in Hoplite Wall? Hoplites are a lot more flexible to use than Pikemen.
Heir can you do campaign on sparta fraction ?
Would take way too long
All campaigns take loge....what's your point,he can put it on legendary
Could you redo this Faction Focus on Sparta - it seems this is quite old now - and I wonder if they are more capable today.
it does not matter how capable they are, if they are plaid by a moron who refuses to play them to their strength (defensive - use the hill, ffs!); even the most potent army would lose, if their commander had some shizophrenic idea of how war _ought_ to be, rather than playing to win and using all the terrain to their advantage. Heir when you finish the Carthage Campaign who will you start your new campaign with Id love to see you do a arverni or suebi campaign.
In Rome 1, if your spears were broken, they would pull out swords....why not in Rome II?
Because Trump.
In Rome 1, there were no hoplites, they were all essentially pikemen.
They also never broke their spears, they merely used swords when enemies got too close.
Why did you put few ads on your videos. You can be earning more than you are.
If you would have went toe to toe with the archers it would only have taken a quarter of ammo to kill them?
just rewatched and realized its not a very in depth look at spartas roster
Heir I dont play muc MP but did complete my first campaign with sparta so I im fairly familiar with the faction. i have a strategy with spartans .always works
now, it's kinda weird that normal hoplite has the same melee attack as royal spartan
11:40 i wouldve focused fire into his cav and wiped em out. Then i could use the thre cav units he had to flank him and keep him wary
soooooo This is: Sparta?
when you have a super veteran sparta unit they can hold realy long
No April fool's day video?
sorry for posting this here but i need help.. so i've had a problem lately. Rome is crashing... Its not just the game, the wole computer freezes and i have to turn ot off and on. this happens to me as well
Your cpu either overheats or runs out of memory
Heir I play as Sparta alot and as i went along and tryed new things ive noticed that Sparta is very good with pikemen even tho they are cheap but they are very important in the army. Sparta historically adopted Macidonian pikes. Just some friendly advice maybe try it out sometime. have a good day Dominator5858
im playing alot and winning alot too.i bring atleast 2 or 3 pike
Use no formation attack for sparta, it works good with them.
Ik a lot of people think sparta isnt very good in this game but the ive won plenty of online battles with them just dont hoplite spam pike spam instead. Those higher armor peltast are great to. Bring a shit loaf of both and a hero as gen with two cav to protect pikes flanks then you are good. win all the time with this build.
huge army for large funds, woah
So is formation attack now a good thing to use?
I don't know because I haven't played for a bit.
If your units should defend, then yes.
If they should kill, dont use it.
totalmadnesman Thanks I kinda thought that was the case.
Well NOW it is ^^ :D
One thing ... Naval??
the vocal fry is real
Heir, a small question: what's the difference between armour and melee defence?melee-wise?
Armor reduces damage taken, Melee Defense increases the chances of avoiding damage.
SPARTANS WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION
hau!! hau!!! hau!!!
baking actually
Being cool
i always wanted to be a baker
pantheon
this explains why Sparta in a campaign I just started has conquered everything
Those archers man! They did pretty good.
So I guess u listened to what I said in your 4th hannibal at the gates video it helps when u look at u r minimap to see what else is left
Oh you could have won if u weren't on the defensive too much
i hope you do carthage soon. big roster change.
Hey Heir. Or just play with divide et impera :P
Freshbricks125
I like DeI and will play it a lot when its done, for now its too fresh, devs will make it great but they need time.
mh I can understand yo, but radious mod is a bit too arcardy for my taste
I've got to agree with +Freshbricks125, I stopped using Radious because it just makes the campaign a lot easier. Also, it adds so many units that each faction almost feels the same because they have all have the same pro's and cons.
Whats a spartan noob box?
Pike box with Spartan hopilites or pikes.
nice vid heir
Is this game worth buying yet?
It is now
good video buddy
Why they dont have sowrds?
+Khaled Al-zoubi he used spearmen,. they are supposed to have spears, not swords.
+רז רייפמן thx
Chris Vaughan but in this video he picked showed some of the cheaper spearman units. i am pretty sure the champions have a sword too but it isnt used in animations. like ever.
Still no Carthage
Its how you battle not the faction lmfao its you thats controlling the faction and making the moves wym by “lets give sparta some credit”
I love your videos (but no slowmo)
I find it really weird how swords have an advantage over spears in these games.
Spears are superior to swords in every way. Especially when you are in formation

This comment section is way too cancerous for the kind intelligent guy Heir is.
Check out this mod for the hellenic factions, it gives sparta a surprising ly decent buff steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=254714765
I played on that map
well ur tactic was pretty bad man
+Daniel Brownson Has the cost of RS increased from 1250? Or was it decreased to 1250?
+Chris Vaughan If you want to be nice sure do it. If you want to play a game and use what you can to win you do that. Using whats around you is basic strategy in war
Chris Vaughan Hill camp? Meet artillery barrage.
