This is my favorite faction. They are so versatile and creative. Its All about how you use them, you need to create chaos to break up formations. Thats their whole goal. I have alot of respect for how accurate rome 2 was with the germanic tribes
I know you posted this almost a decade ago but: Been a bit, but I think it was: Round Shield Swordsmen x4 as my shock troops Sword Masters x4 as my main infantry, Wodanaz Spear x 6 for covering flanks/dealing with cav, 3 Noble Riders (including General) for effective flanking, and two scout calv to wipe up the retreat and to act as your archers. There was mixup, but..This setup was my default army first time playing through with Suebi story and I found it effective if you were mobile enough. It was especially effective if you could back up the army with another army of Berserkers, wolf warriors and other light/fear-based and often disposable units.... To catch your enemies in the open, or best of all, at night in ambush was often a guaranteed route and massacre. Alternatively, you could have a support army of artilery- whatever the situation calls for. All of this required (for me at the time) expansion as far as the goldmine in Gaul and Istros, and careful city management (Four settlement provinces were the only place to fit and assemble such a huge and effective army quickly, though you still may need to bring calv and special units from elsewhere)- the conquering of the alps for the armor/weapon bonus helps, too. So before you can afford it, you'll be fighting with high casuality small skirmish clans where your round sheild swordsman will be acting as your main infantry, and there'll be more emphasis on damage from spies (Get that general if you can to effect combat morale!), and ambush ahead of time. Basically seizing moments of opportunity Guerilla style.
Heir, you forgot to mention that the Wolf Warriors are part of the Beasts of War DLC. If you don't have the DLC you're forced to spend your denari on the more expensive infantry. Which really cripples what you can bring.
the Suebi is my favorite barbaric faction, don't know why I just do.. I tend to use them as a rush army or just quickly flank with them.. an enemy is an enemy but also time and timing is a big enemy.. CA should do something to make them fun again.. i miss those awesome suebi days
Hooked on your channel man, me and a few mates just got into Rome2 and watch your vids religiously. Thank you for all this amazing content, still helping people 5 years later!

That's insane I didn't realize how much morale damage suebi does. I'm very much enjoying these faction focuses just bought rome 2 as I realize I'm pretty late to the party I'm enjoying my first campaign with the iceni. These videos aged like fine wine if I do say so myself
They've been updated quite a bit by now. Far larger roster and slightly buffed archers. I have no idea whether they've become good or are still 'rickety'. However, as their roster has become larger they're doubtlessly more fun by now. It's just that these newer Total War games throw so many different units at you it becomes overwhelming. Thinking about doing a campaign as them and playing as the game want me to, very aggressively whenever I can afford it (public order boost from war happiness, they're like the historical Greenskins I guess, just without the waaaaaagh! armies).
Playing the marcomanni in legendary and it is tough as hell, this video gave me a lot of tips and thanks for that heir of carthage. I would also like you to do if you haven't already a fight against rome's best since i am currently facing that. Also it would be helpful if you did some cool tips on keyboard shortcuts and features we did not know in total war rome 2
there is a really good use for the longbow hunters i use them to run a muck elephants it usually only takes one volley of fire arrows and those elephants run scared.
Suebi is indeed a risky faction to use, but if you use them properly you should be able to win with them. The point is that they are indeed very weak against enemy skirmishers and most of their infantery is also weak against cav charges. Noble riders are decent, but not really cost effecitve IMO, so you can use them to protect all your infantery. Well played, personally I should use some scout riders to put pressure on the enemy skirmishers and use this to advance your main line. I find Suebi a fun and challenging to use.
He could also have forfeitted the hill at the start and avoid that uneeded cav fight at the beggining, fighting uphill would be preferable than with the slope diving the armies because he would have better chance to use his archers, he would also be able to kite them back since they outranged the germanic skirmishers.
Heir could you do an updated faction focus on suebi? just a quick few notes in comments section if no time? THANK you. PLaying suebi in Grand Campaign and just unlocked these horse runners. How do they match up overall skirmisher power?
Enjoying a campaign with this faction now. Club Levys are my absolute bread and butter in large numbers. So cheap and so effective. I don’t play multiplayer though 😁
if longbow hunters have stalk (can be hidden on open ground) and snipe (can fire while hidden) then can they fire while hidden on open ground? and that would beg the question how close do units start to see enemy units hidden by stalk, before or after 125m?
I kind of disagree on the pikes. Maybe it is because I haven't played the most recent patches but in most cases (in Rome 1 as well as 2) I find pikes to be at their best when used offensively, as to not even give the enemy the possibility to outmaneuver them. Though maneuvering is the most important thing when you use pikes like that, as they tend to get slaughtered if you're not able to keep them in a cohesive formation or the enemy is able to outmaneuver you. Of course you need to support very well with your shock cav and skirmishers. Still, I find it kind of sad that most people only use pikes as glorified wooden stakes.
Really hope for Night infantery like they can sneak almost upto enamies with out been noticed and can deploy out side the deployment zone but only at night. The drav backs is that they cant do this in daylight and they only use clubs and is vonrble to ranged units. And yes it is historical accuret
this game has very low troop variety without mods. And i would have liked that the units in rome 1 would be in rome 2 like chosen archer warband, gothic cav, poeni infantry etc
Can you re-do this video on the faction now that their units are different? Trying to follow along in-game with my other monitor, and some of the units are completely different in the game right now. I'm assuming they re-did them in the EE? Thanks!
All barbarians have the 2 same units. The nobles riders and the noble sword fighters (Oathssworn Heroic nobles and Swordmasters) Which one of them are the best units ?
How come you never did Carthage? I would have thought you would have done it with the Hannibal At the Gates DLC section. I only recently re-subscribed when I saw you were doing Rome videos again so maybe I missed the reason.
What is your opinion on barbarian factions having artillery? I know lots of people think it's historically inaccurate and there are mods to take away the artillery.
No reason it couldnt be captured and reverse engineered... I think that's how I stumbled on my first unit with this faction like that; capturing a Gaulish city that had the ability to do so. haha
Hi Heir, have you checked how much the Berserkers are over powered now ? please try to do online game and do some build with Berserkers .... they can cut any infantry like nothing !
You have everything set on extreme, right? Blood doesnt stay on ground. Its there for several seconds only. The funny thing here is that CA sells it and its for temporary only... selling a feature that doesnt meet consumer's demand is not right. We buy blood dlc because we want battlefield to be bloody. Where is the blood after 10 seconds?
There is a mod that can make it stay... why cant ca? It causes mp issues if we rely on mods... Aside from that, I want CA to make blood on ground permanent on vanilla because we buy this feature from them and they must be the one to fix it...
jamreal18 Did you even read his response? He said that average pc's would have performance-problems with if the blood would stay on the battlefield. Isn't that a fair point?
This is my favorite faction.
They are so versatile and creative.

I hope CA will add several units to Suebi & Pontus.
Yes, they also should have made the wolfwarriors available for everyone, not just for the DLC owners! :)
Do a Suebi campaign in the future! It would be super challenging and fun to watch!

Just before sleep, a bit of Heir is a great mellower! Perfect timing Patchy!
I wish they'd add in the Cherusci faction as playable.
@Richard Rivera where does one learn to mod?

I love them too; why fight the enemy when you can scare them and kill them while they run?!!
Try this....
Get northern coast settlements
Then get trade agreement with Royal Scythia ,
then look at diplomacy map

That was a very well executed battle on Heirs part, fun to watch.
I have never thought of using the Suebi. You have made me revisit the Idea.
Is it beneficial to regroup your cavalry before charging back in? Or does it not matter when they're all spread out in very awkward formation?
It helps to not have stragglers, but a its a bit dynamic.

@@Telamonian damn. Content still good but I guess it's all outdated then huh. That sucks, I'm a still watch though very entertaining 😅
Wow the wolf warrior didn't get 1 kill their OP lol
Well with crappy attack and armor they need to use fear as their sword!
Striker345ify it's funny how they have crappy stuff, but there "scary" or I guess that's how they balanced it.
MrMasonthebest I would run at the sight of blood lusted, ax biting, rabid and numerous barbarians that hunt wolves and bears for their head set!
@@Striker345ify I'd run away from a Macedonian phalanx or a Roman Legion, not these guys.
One of the things I miss most in Attila is the nice unit drawings! Its DLCs have it but I don't really play those. Maybe I'll pick this game up...

seems like if your opponent had had more open terrain to work with, his archers would've been more potent,as the hill obstructed their line of sight.
There are different hills in different maps, if not then good chance of trees. For the most part anyway, he stayed out of range.
He could also have forfeitted the hill at the start and avoid that uneeded cav fight at the beggining, fighting uphill would be preferable than with the slope diving the armies because he would have better chance to use his archers, he would also be able to kite them back since they outranged the germanic skirmishers.

For suebi in Singleplayer is better to have longbows or the javelin youth?
Well heir a suebi campaign maybe?
do higher quality pikemen form up faster than cheaper pikes?
I'm pretty sure after the unit balancing/fixes, suebi have the best shields in the game so they have that going for them.
Yeah but with nor armour ? They still die liek flies ^^
