I really hope this game has a long, healthy life cycle. FFG has made some pretty awesome card games in the past, but they all had sort of a limiting life-span. With this iteration, it seems they've really tried to future proof themselves out of that sort of situation. Keeping fingers crossed, because it looks like a lot of fun for a starting set.

I have a Token Upgrade card with Experience on 1 side and a Base on the other. Do Token Upgrade cards come like that normally? Also, thank you for the video, I am learning a lot.
Did you have a question question about the tag phase? I attack with multiple cards during the same phase or do I have to only check with one unit and then the other person goes then I can attack my second unit
@@WatchItPlayed Hey thanks, just realized my local store sells them for 30 USD so I immediatly bought them, it seems they are not that easy to find nowadays.
Hi Rodney, i have a question about the initiative token. If I call Initiative and my opponent has two or more action choices, do they then continue to take multiple actions after I take the initiative? Say, after I take the initiative, my opponent then takes an attack action, then it goes back to me, i pass. Do they then take another action or is their turn over?
Hi Wayne, check out this section of the video, and let me know if this covers your question: th-cam.com/video/F02bX67faIY/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=1206
Interesting. Watching this I can see terms and some playing is a bit like Keyforge, a game started by FFG as well. I may give the base set a go. Still leary about deck building but I hear draft is pretty fun.
I don’t understand, is there a block feature? Can you opt to have a unit take damage over your base? If not what’s stopping someone from only targeting your base on every move.
There isn't an auto-block option. Do see the section on Sentinel units for how units can block. As it relates to attacking the base every time - that is an option, but you might find in practice it's not always the best choice. When an opponent has a large unit on the battlefield, they might be able to take out your base before you can, so you'd be better off targeting their unit over their base. These are things that sometimes become more clear when you're at the table playing, than in the abstract.
There’s not maximum, but you often don’t want a deck that’s larger than the minimum, as it starts to get less efficient (often a deck is built around a strategy that starts to get watered down if you have 200 cards in your deck).
Question regarding the Leader card when it's a unit: why does it hava a resource costin the top left corner, when the only way to play your leader as a unit is when playing its heroic action? Once your Leader as a unit gets defeated, it goes back to your base forever, with no way of bringing it back as a unit right?
Haven't heard of this game yet. Smells like MtG Star Wars with a dash of Commander !? Ah, already a big difference, less turn based with possible interrupts and a more almost simultaneous play/pass system, akin to i am thinking Terraforming Mars for instance, although a very different game a similar idea. Space and Ground combat, not a bad idea. Events are basically your Instants and Sorceries. Upgrades are your Artifacts/Enchantments. Unique is Legendary. Even with the names it's the same, but MtG just has one name, and here they split it into Character name and Version sort of thing, but it's the same idea. Damage stays though ? The Upgrade ATK/HP being on the bottom is a nice idea, easy to put under and add up, that is something that might work easy for MtG too, just add the normal bubble in the bottom right if it adds +X ATK/+X HP, slide the card down a bit more to see any possible text, which might say "Add +1/+1 for each (allied/Rebel/Imperial) Unique character in play. Sentinel is Defender/Wall i guess. And i am not harking on the system, most of this stuff just makes sense for such a game in general. They should add a Scum faction. They could also add a Civilian side which could be added to decks of every faction. Hmm, Droid, Vehicle, and others, maybe if they also the Civilians, maybe there could be some force cards that work just on Droids and Vehicles or maybe Upgrades, such as Push, but maybe also that only work on Characters or Civilians or Scum, mind reading etc. If they haven't thought of this ahead of now, they already missed a major oppertunity i feel. I don't see any Humanoid or Aliens or Biological etc. traits or keywords, so that's a bit of a shame i feel. Maybe Aspects does something akin to the colors in MtG ? Or is it just another thing like the name or whatever. Aj, not quite, more like a subclass like Wizard or something ? So far, i think i like this game, i wish the art was a little better, but it is certainly not bad. Ah, was expecting Space to be able to attack ground Units MAYBE, but nope, all goes to base. And your Leader is more akin to a Commander which can also become a (Ground) Unit, but can also do stuff as your leader. And your base is just your Life Total. I suspect you might be able to upgrade that too perhaps with extra armor and or shields at some point. Maybe in an expansion later on. If not, another missed oppertunity. Hmmm, i feel they should have made some kind of spindown wheel with 2(+) rings or dials to turn to show health, put that into your base, or slide a base card into it or something, the tokens, not digging it. Or at the very least i would put down tokens and take away from them as you take damage. But then i'd only do that for your base, not your Units. But then i come back to dials or whatever. It's not like that is a new idea, how many spind down dice and dials with different designs are there for all kinds of games already !? Am kind of surprised that the Shield removes ALL damage done, not a set amount it can take and you subtract it from the Shield first, then health. Unexpected, makes Shields really good, of course it matter how easy it might be to gain them though, but it being different from how they work in most games, might be a nice idea. Ah, Sentinel is not just a wall, you have to attack it first, like a Goad or Taunt or Lure. Ah, Saboteur is nice, bypasses Sentinel and removes Shield outright and then still attacks. Raid is not a bad addition to such a game. A, i saw Restore and expected it to remove damage from itself, but it removes it from the Base. Ah, the action/pass does kind of work like Terraforming Mars, which onlyt makes sense if you both pass anyway. What else are you gonna do, wait forever ? Hmmm, Initiative. Determines who starts the next round, but if you take it, you can't do anything anymore but the other can, unlimited, but if the other player doesn't have many cards left in hand and actions etc. to perform, you might want to think about taking it regardless. Might be a nice added thing to contend for, might be a gimmick, not sure yet, probably somewhre in between. So every card can be a resources, but only 1, which is most mana lands, i wonder if they'll add cards that will be 2 or more, maybe by placing a token on it or something, or do something else as lands, also, it is a bit of a missed oppertunity for a lot of cool locations with possible abilities from the Star Wars universe, but, you do draw 2 cards every round, so more resources and play potential that way. There's far less chance of having dead draws for several turns. Oh how we MtG players hate drawing Basic Lands for 4 turns for example. With this you'd have to be pretty unlucky with 2 cards drawn per Round to have only reallyu expensive cards, so expensive that even playing most of your cards as a resource you still cannot play them for a few rounds, seems rather unlikely. Ah, you can only do the Epic action once. Well, kind of makes sense, or you'd be able to do it every Round after you get enough Resources to do it once, even if it also gets killed every Round, wouldn't make much sense. Hmm, i wonder if at some point you will be able to empty your Discard Pile into your Deck pile, probably not, i think they want for this game to be a lot faster of a game. And i think they kind of want to avoid the ridiculously powerful but also on the open market really expensive card like MtG has. But then i wonder what expansion boxes and or booster packs cost, because good luck trying to really defend the same prices if people do not feel they get the same reward for buying them ? Pulling that Mythic or super good card at whatever rarity or super expensive card is a big part of such games like MtG and others like it. Ah, playing with more than two players. Yeah, they shoudl really add the Scum faction. I like some Star Wars stuff, also a lot i don't like, but i think i rather like this game, i sure want to try it a few times. And let's be honest, with such a massive backstory in the books and comics and movies, Old Republic, and so on, plenty of expansions to come up with. Still think adding Scum as a Faction and Civilians as Units that can be added to either faction would be cool. So many Characters and Leader roles possible, very cool and perhaps several versions of Space and Ground Units. Force/Item/Upgrade possibilities. For the video, i would cover Resources a bit sooner. But it's not a problem. Frankly, i think this video covers everything rather well. Not too fast, or too slow, clear, good examples. But, is this just the basic decks you buy ? Surely not ? No boosters or expansion boxes already or coming ? If known, it would have been good to add a bit of that information to the video !? EDIT after watching another video. Ah, resources, cards cost 2 more resources if they have an icon that is not on your Base or Leader card. So that's kind of the colors, you can strill add other colors, bu you know the card will cost 2 more resources for every icon not featured, balancing thing for your deack that way, while preventing you drawing 4 times red mana in 6 turns and needing only green mana. That might actually be a good idea. Might also be too easy to build your deck that way perhaps !? I probably missed that because i was typing and not paying enough attention XD Also, for some cards maybe being able to provide +X Resources, they can just say that on the front of the card, use tokens, and of course you have to reveal the card so show you're not cheating, the backs of course all have to be the same to show you're not cheating. Maybe even not using them as the resource but discarding them gives you X Resources depending on the card and might do something (as well), but then you need more tokens and two more areas in your play field to keep apart the Ready and Used Resources or another Spin Dial/Wheel thing for that, and that might be indeed be a bit much perhaps ? Having to choose two cards to put down as resources can be a hard choice sometimes, but then again, you draw two cards every turn so it might offset that, but you start with less cards and discard two, not sure, and you might be able to draw more cards maybe at some point ? And Boosters have at least 1 Leader and 1 Foil (if you care about that), and they seem to have variants like borderless cards. There also aren't real factions as such, so not just Imperial and Rebel, there are Sith and Jedi subclasses, i also spotted some Underworld subclass, but i feel there can be Underworld civilians on Rebel and Imperial and Scum side or something, feel they could have done more with that. And then the colors, they kind of do the MtG colors but not really, because the colors or color combos are also like the Factions in MtG kind of, so it's bit of a mix of all and some things do less and then i feel some things are missing or missed oppertunities !? Also, the tokens having the ATK/HP at the bottom was a great idea, but, why didn't they also do that with the Units ? Would mean they are all closer to each other which just makes it more easy to see or add up ? Bases, maybe they should add some special Bases, that also do stuff or heal or have a shield or whatever. I just feel they have the oppertunity to do a lot more, and of course they will, but i also kind of feel they might have already missed some oppertunities, which is a shame. Somehow i also kind of feel something like this might work as a deck builder, kind of using some mechanics from Quarriors in some way ? You have to of course choose which ones and how many to set aside as an optional buy up front like Quarriors/Dice Masters. Hmmm, might have to come up with my own game XD Saw a little more, yeah, they do have more Underworld stuff, leaders and cards, but again, they're not really holding on to factions as such, you can mix and match whatever you like, which can be good, but also kind of weird perhaps.
"EDIT after watching another video. Ah, resources, cards cost 2 more resources if they have an icon that is not on your Base or Leader card." You'll find that mentioned in this video as well (in the deck building section). I didn't include it in the first part, as you won't encounter that when using the Starter Set, but I did think it was helpful for people to be aware of when they are ready to move beyond that into the rest of the card pool.
@@WatchItPlayed oh yeah, didn’t doubt it. I was just typing way too much while the video also played 😅 But I think I like this game, but not sure how it actually plays, but I sure want to try it though. For how many of such cars games are and how many how to play videos are, this is one of the clearest and easiest to understand ones I think. Well done 😉
I'm sorry I can't give a formally official answer. With games having this many cards and combinations and general complexity (and rules being updated over time), it's hard for me to stand by anything past what's covered in the video, BUT my understanding based on the rules, is that if a second lightsaber was played, you pick one of them to defeat (the new or old one).
@@WatchItPlayed Thanks for taking the time to reply! I finally got a chance to play the game with a friend and for the most part the guidebook was straightforward but this Question came up and based off watching your video this answer makes the most sense, I also feel like thematically it fits just like a Jedi might drop his lightsaber in a duel but surprise the opponent with force pulling it back into his hand 👊🏻😎
It's just the way the Raid keyword works. It's part of that term's definition in Star Wars Unlimited, but you'll also see reminder text on screen as well. Go to this point and pause, and you'll see. th-cam.com/video/F02bX67faIY/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=1074 Helper text isn't always shown on every card, but in the starter set, it's more frequent to see it as a reminder when players are first learning.
@WatchItPlayed Thanks, but isn't defined in that help text. It says 2/0 when attacking, is it in the rules somewhere that /0 = when defending? I'm just not sure how I would learn that if I hadn't watched this video.
@@manderson725 The “/+0” in that helper text refers to the unit’s HP (or hit points). The helper text says “the unit has +2/+0 while attacking”, meaning +2 power and +0 hit points while attacking. This is a bonus to its stats only ‘while attacking’. Those bonuses go away in any other circumstance. One of the challenges to new players in games like these is that the full definition of the keywords on the cards often isn’t explained fully. The keyword will be fully explained in the rules (in this case in the starter set rule book and on the included playmats), so the player ends up (as they play more), committing these rules to memory. It’s a trade off, because there’s only so much space for text on the cards. Hope this helps!
Thank you for this tutorial. Easily understandable and exactly the way how I need. My first experience with the channel and already subscribed. Keep up the good work. May the views be with you 🫡
Hey there, I don't really get into strategy help (it's enough to manage rules questions across all the videos :) ), but I think you'll find as you play, you develop a sense of what are good options. Early on, I generally think it's a good idea to resource cards that have high resource values, since you won't be able to play them for awhile, and they will just clog up your hand. I'd rather have lower cost cards in my hand that I feel I can use asap. Have fun playing!
You're right, the wording could imply that, but it is optional. That's how the rule works, you don't have to reveal as soon as you meet the condition, you can instead wait and reveal on any future action.
@@WatchItPlayed General question. I noticed on some of the cards there is a little 4-pointed star next to the name on some of the cards. Yoda has a star Wampa no star

Great Video!
Question though, if I get a card as a leader, such as Grand Moff Tarkin, can I still use Grand Moff cards as regular cards to play?
Yep!
This explanation is superb! Thanks for the help. ❤
Thanks for the kind feedback!
Looks great. I’m planning on getting the starter pack and mixing the two decks, so I can play solo.
Wonderful guide! Thanks for explaining it thoroughly and slowly! Time to get deck building !
Very glad you found it helpful. Just played a couple games of this today... and based on the result I need to get back to deck building :)
This is an amazing breakdown. Great work.
Thank you kindly!
Really interesting, I love it. Again, merci Rod!

Great job Rodney, as always 😊

Just ordered this set! Hoping stores start getting booster packs soon! And the Playmat too
I know more are in production, so hopefully soon!

Absolute awesome as usual, Ty very much!

I have a Token Upgrade card with Experience on 1 side and a Base on the other. Do Token Upgrade cards come like that normally?
Also, thank you for the video, I am learning a lot.
Yep, that's typically how they come in the booster packs.
LOVE IT - SWU is amazing.
Glad you've been enjoying it too!
Thank you for teaching me the game!
Have a great time playing Ignacy - I'll be getting some more games in myself this week!
Did you have a question question about the tag phase? I attack with multiple cards during the same phase or do I have to only check with one unit and then the other person goes then I can attack my second unit
With your attack action, you pick a single Ready unit to attack with. In a future action you can attack with another single Ready unit you have.
Thank you for the video!

Where did you get those tokens for damage? They look very cool
Those are made by a company called Gamegenic.
@@WatchItPlayed Hey thanks, just realized my local store sells them for 30 USD so I immediatly bought them, it seems they are not that easy to find nowadays.

Will you do one for the Star Wars The deck Building game? Thank you

@@WatchItPlayed I get that, that's fair enough
Just for clearness, when you use epic action, can you attack instantly? Or wait for your next action???
Resolving the Epic Action is your action for that turn. You’d have to attack on a later action.

Thank you. I'm on my 3rd time watching this
I hope this helps you enjoy playing!

Yes, that answers it, I guess I missed that part. Thank so much Rodney.

Interesting. Watching this I can see terms and some playing is a bit like Keyforge, a game started by FFG as well. I may give the base set a go. Still leary about deck building but I hear draft is pretty fun.
Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks great video and tutorial!
You’re very welcome!
These are things that sometimes become more clear when you're at the table playing, than in the abstract.
great tutorial as always. Thanks Rodney!
Very kind of you to say - I hope you have fun playing if you get a chance to try it!
Thank you so much for this!!

Very well made. Thank you.
You’re very welcome!
When building a deck he said you need 1 leader and 1 base and 'at least' 50 other cards, is there a maximum or can you have like a 200 card deck?
There’s not maximum, but you often don’t want a deck that’s larger than the minimum, as it starts to get less efficient (often a deck is built around a strategy that starts to get watered down if you have 200 cards in your deck).
If I have two of the same aspect between my base and leader, does a card with only one of that aspect cost less resources?
@@west2smojo Nope
Question regarding the Leader card when it's a unit: why does it hava a resource costin the top left corner, when the only way to play your leader as a unit is when playing its heroic action? Once your Leader as a unit gets defeated, it goes back to your base forever, with no way of bringing it back as a unit right?
That’s a good question! I’m not sure the reason behind that icon and value showing there - but your understanding of the rules are correct.
There are cards/abilities that could seek/look for the unit’s playing cost.
@@josepaolo8247 OK makes sense.
I probably missed that because i was typing and not paying enough attention XD
Also, for some cards maybe being able to provide +X Resources, they can just say that on the front of the card, use tokens, and of course you have to reveal the card so show you're not cheating, the backs of course all have to be the same to show you're not cheating.
Hmmm, might have to come up with my own game XD
Saw a little more, yeah, they do have more Underworld stuff, leaders and cards, but again, they're not really holding on to factions as such, you can mix and match whatever you like, which can be good, but also kind of weird perhaps.
"EDIT after watching another video. Ah, resources, cards cost 2 more resources if they have an icon that is not on your Base or Leader card."
You'll find that mentioned in this video as well (in the deck building section). I didn't include it in the first part, as you won't encounter that when using the Starter Set, but I did think it was helpful for people to be aware of when they are ready to move beyond that into the rest of the card pool.
@@WatchItPlayed oh yeah, didn’t doubt it. I was just typing way too much while the video also played 😅
But I think I like this game, but not sure how it actually plays, but I sure want to try it though.

If Luke has his lightsaber attached and you play a new one, can you attach the new one and discard the old one?
@@DnDJordanL I like your thematic explanation :)
Yes, if you play a unique card with the same name, you must destroy the other copy on the field.
Can you explain how you knew the Raid 2/0 on the Rogue Operative meant as attacker vs defender?
It's just the way the Raid keyword works. It's part of that term's definition in Star Wars Unlimited, but you'll also see reminder text on screen as well. Go to this point and pause, and you'll see. th-cam.com/video/F02bX67faIY/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=1074
Helper text isn't always shown on every card, but in the starter set, it's more frequent to see it as a reminder when players are first learning.
Hope this helps!
such a helpful video :D

How do you decide what card to resource? What kind of cards do you want to resource and what ones should you keep in your hand?
Hey there, I don't really get into strategy help (it's enough to manage rules questions across all the videos :) ), but I think you'll find as you play, you develop a sense of what are good options. Early on, I generally think it's a good idea to resource cards that have high resource values, since you won't be able to play them for awhile, and they will just clog up your hand. I'd rather have lower cost cards in my hand that I feel I can use asap. Have fun playing!
I have a doubt... The Epic Action doen't say "may", it only tells you If you have the resources, do it... It doesn't sound optional...
You're right, the wording could imply that, but it is optional. That's how the rule works, you don't have to reveal as soon as you meet the condition, you can instead wait and reveal on any future action.
