Sing as we Go, never fails to remind me of my grandmother. She worked at the Bolton Cotton Spinning Mill where they filmed. As the factory girls left work, one climbed on a motor bike to the cheers of others. My father always used to point her out in the scene. It's hard to believe it was over 90 years ago now, but it's an instant reminder of her when I hear the song as the girls went up the hill after work at the mill.
My late father told of the time when, as a young soldier, he and some friends, in uniform, were waiting for a ferry in the cold and rain and Gracie took them to a cafe to warm up with tea and cakes.
Beautiful little film about a great British icon of the 1930s and 1940s. Lovely performances from the leads especially Jane Horrocks.

At one time the highest paid star in the world!
met her on capri she was charming and knew my home town of preston we spoke for around 30 minutes
Like Cilla and Lulu, Gracie had a ghastly voice but bags of energy - and like Cilla and Lulu, Gracie was unique, which is what counts.
Cilla and Lulu? Typical English tone deafness. Your arrogant take is spectacularly wrong.
I agree with your assessment of Cilla's voice but Lulu had a voice as did Gracie. It was a vaudeville voice for the end of the pier show.
Lovely movie.. Thank's for sharing ❤
Sadly some asinine 'censor' has cut the sound in several sections of this link... what a mean and antisocial thing to do!!!
True, but the asinine "censor" likely knew what to remove for copy write reasons or the film would have been removed.
It’s to avoid copyright. People who want things for free, seem very ignorant about the cost.
@@Kate-lk6tw Yeah - but copyright on songs this old is wrong.
Sound craps out for two important songs toward the end.
Lots audio 56:55-58:15. I guess the song was not allowed. And then another 1:13:04-1:15:15. Almost to the end; kind of annoying.
Why do they have to cut the audio? At the very important point!
Because it’s avoiding copyright! You free ride, you endure some inconvenience. Or you pay.
🤣 1:15:07 no sound on any of these songs😂
Kept losing sound ...spoiling a lovely film
End also cut short
It’s so it can be free! If you want it perfect, pay for it.
Horrocks is a very good actor but hasn't got Field's singing voice.
Beautiful film but why did the sound keep going out?
To avoid copyright strike on the music and removal of movie from YT.
Why do people cut the sound in the middle of films? what's it all about?
Copyright.
Yes I agree very mean, but they want us to subscribe so they get paid,, I will not subscribe because they are mean.😢
