If you wonder why we could not include the Kia EV6 yet: Kia Germany is refusing to give us a car because we speak English (Welcome to 2021...). Working on it, and if we get one, I will of course rate it the very same fair and unbiased way like with every other vehicle. It's not the engineer's or the car's fault :-)
Wait, wasn't Kia the brand who wanted to push their old style hybrids into the market first? I just test drove Ioniq 5 today!! Wow!!! It was amazing experience with this sweet baby!! Powerful and quiet… and it was a sexy looking car!!! Really loved it!!
I weighed up price which left me with Tesla and Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 came out best for looks, comfort, quality and ride so I bought one and LOVE it. Theft is a problem though as my wife keeps taking it now.
I have the Mustang Mach-E First Edition in Grabber Blue. It’s is the AWD with large battery. We have had the car since April 2021. This is our second BEV, Chevy Bolt since 2017. Prior to this I was driving a Volvo V70 T5 which is a sporty wagon. The Mustang Mach-E is such a nice car. Your review is accurate. It is a great touring car and technology works very well. I drive mostly in Untamed, 1 pedal and no sound all the time, even during highway driving. I use the adaptive cruise control with lane cantering. It works very well and ads safety. It’s great that we have so many choices now. One thing I must say is every time we drive somewhere, we get thumbs up and people stopping to ask us about the car. The Grabber Blue and the style are very good pluses for the style and attractiveness.
I’m replacing my Ioniq 5 with a Model Y. Why? Because of low ground clearance, bad infotainment with a “google translate” feel, lots of error codes and did I mention low ground clearance? Already cracked the front bumper a bit on my grocery store curb. Didn’t happen to my I-Pace or any other vehicle I’ve owned. Besides, top summer efficiency and charging, both rather sinister in winter. What will I miss? Cool retro-futuristic looks, head-up display and comfy quiet ride.
Extensive video dropped on a Sunday, perfect! Will have to watch the Grand Prix first then get straight into this. I know what I will be doing tonight, looking forward to this!!!
Maaaaaaaan Autogefühl strikes again!!! What a detailed, comprehensive and extensive review!!! Perfect video for my overnight shift!!! Keep up the great work guys!!!
Way above Mat Whatstone, that guy makes the worst jokes and is biased and sometimes outright manipulative and liar. This channel is in top 3 on TH-cam because of the quality of journalism.
@@HadrianTAZhorses for courses. He has fun and sometimes dresses like a 22 year old at a music festival which is cringe whereas thomas here is elegant classy and a bit louis therouxish. However matt sometimes gets it right with his winter wardrobe and middle class scarpa walking boots and sick burberry puffer. I reckon thomas wears an IWC pilot on a nato strap. Or an understated longines. Classy not blingy.
@@gavinrowson47 I also have picked the Ioniq5. Ground clearance has been fine and there fairly firm suspension must help in this regard. My iPhone instantly link with the sound system via Bluetooth and the audio quality is excellent s as well as being adjustable for balance. So far, I am a huge fan. Previous drive was an Audi A4 Quattro sport with poor ground clearance and less seamless iphone integration.
@millbay Moll - Gavin didn't ask anything about ground clearance, suspension, audio or how fast an iPhone can sync with the car. While it's not a bad entry ev, it can't compare to that Tesla - for almost the same dollars, you get less ground clearance, cargo capacity, acceleration, infotainment (that LAG!), and charging speed. But hey, at least I can hook my fridge up to it when the grid takes a dump 👍
Super test. I would go for the Ionic 5. Because of the space and comfort. It can hold my keyboard-rig. Premium functions for good price. 230V 16amp outlet I see possibilities. It also can pul 1600kg. Our caravan is about 1400kg. For vacations not too far away suitable. There is also a model with sun panels. I expect not too much power of it, but standing in the sun, it could be a llittle efficient. At the moment I drive a 2011 Volvo V70 2.5 twin turbo diesel. A very fine car. 300.000 km already. So I have to have patience to save money and the possible advantage of upcoming upgrades of the Ioniq 5. On my house I have sun panels and I'll get modifications in the electric installation for the future.
@@applerider4205 That isn't problem. China produces for Teslas as well. China is leading in battery technology. Tesla wanted to use lifepo4 Chinese batteries which has superior cycle life as well from CATL.
I can't believe that I spent 3½ hours watching this when I hate SUV's and Crossovers and am interested only in sedans and coupes. I have one car for utility (a 16 year old Honda Odyssey from which I removed the rear seats and installed a tow bar for a utility trailer) and another for enjoyable driving (2000 BMW M Coupe). I plan to buy a BEV in mid 2023 and have been following all the reviews. I test drove a Tesla Model 3 in January 2019 and was blown away by the handling. However, my test drive of the Model Y in July of that year turned me off. I don't have kids and I don't have passengers other than my wife or a friend. It dismays me that the majority of Americans are fixated on SUV's. Do they all have tons of brats? Are they going off road? I look forward to your comparative review of the BMW i4 versus the Model 3. Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y are aesthetically boring. The need to use the large screen is a dangerous driver distraction. No heads up display, no instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. Add to that crappy suspension, poor quality control out of the Freemont factory, lack of rear traffic cross alert and lack of lane change warning.
Congratulations Thomas on a fantastic series of EV reviews. Although the Tesla Model Y lacks some of the refinement of the others in terms of suspension refinement and small interior pieces, the performance, leading technology, efficiency, and value for money would make it my choice.
Thank you great reviews and taking the time to do them. I’ll never even consider any other ev, at any price. The Tesla, even with its few shortcomings, is still so far ahead in every category that matters to us.
I don't care what you guys say. I was lucky enough to get an EV6 First Edition, and out of all the EV's I've checked out, I think it's the best all-around choice for now.
BMW iX3. Superior experience - best to drive, most refined, best interior of any EV. It's just a nice place to be and feels like a sports SUV. I test drove and ordered. Model Y - shoddy build quality, minimalist interior doesn't feel premium, one screen operation is unfriendly, and main drawback is that it's priced like a premium car but looks like a £20k non-descript Japanese car.
Excellent video. In my opnion EV choices are largely depends on the charging network at the moment. In most cases, Tesla wins and NOT because they produce better cars but more readily available charging network/consistency. I dont want 100 cards in my wallet for each individual charging company.
You do not need 100 cards. In the UK and Europe all new rapid chargers will be CCS (Tesla included) and must provide for contactless payment. This aligns with the way we pay for pretty much all inexpensive items nowadays and you can use any charger, not one specific network. The Tesla system is restrictive and outmoded.
There are Tesla's with NMC and with LFP, the price of the cars in the clip makes it compete with Tesla NMC LR Model Y and it has no weight problems, and no problems with charging at low temperature.
One peddle driving is a necessity with electric cars. It’s one of the best features of them !!!!! It’s a huge mistake that the VW group isn’t providing the option.
Even with its flaws Tesla is the way to go. It takes a couple of weeks to get used to it’s driving display etc. It’s the only car that keeps on changing and improving every few months with its software upgrades and engineering iterations. I still get excited about new software upgrades on my 2019 model 3 dual motor long range. Being a FSD. Beta tester in USA is just an incredible experience in the cars journey to be autonomous one day.
iPhone on wheels; it speaks to a generation wedded to sleeping with an iPad and wants to continue the experience while driving. A passenger, not a driver.

You’re a precise and articulate reviewer, and I love that you advocate for animal-free interiors. My wife and I are on the fence between the Tesla M3 and the Mach-E. I will admit your final choice surprised me, and also pushed me towards the Mach-E.
Animal free just means the 890,000 cattle that get slaughtered a day have their hides go to waste. Animal free is really more about your feelings not reality.
THOMAS, the only reviewer who puts der hammer down on the Autobahn! Thoroughly entertaining and informative video. Although the Y has some advantages, Tesla keeps raising the prices; they also came in 26th of 27 in reliability in a Consumer Reports review, and JD Power also rates them near the bottom of the barrel. Paint is especially a problem, so if you get one, have it wrapped immediately. I don't want a glass roof because I live in Florida. Like Thomas, I like buttons and knobs; if the center screen goes out, you basically phuqed in the Y. Not to have a heads-up display is inexcusable. At least you get a steering wheel and not a yoke! Then they want $10k for FSD that doesn't work?
And because? Is it the safest car? - no Is it the most efficient car? - no Is it the car with the most storage? - no Is it the one with the best infotainment system? - no Is it the one that will depreciate the least? - no Is it the one withe the best over the air software update? - no So tell me: why without hesitation? Because you like the name Ioniq better?
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. Please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette. And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
@@autogefuehl Interesting if the synthetic material is better than might as well use it but this comes from petroleum, which I am also not against. Was just curious as to your position on the matter and I think it is well thought out. I am a vegetarian myself for over 20 years but it is not practical to expect everyone in the world to do the same. Another topic I think needs more discussion is "green" energy. I also think solar and wind farms are destroying the local ecosystems and we'd be better off advancing nuclear technologies and stay with rooftop solar only as a supplement along with natural gas.
A charger network dedicated to a particular make of car is anti-competitive, stupid and unnecessary. You do not buy petrol for a Ford car from a Ford garage, do you. The customer must have choice. All new EVs have easy OTA software updates, nothing special at all.
@@rogerphelps9939 not all EVs have easy OTA updates. Tesla charging network now has a lot of major manufacturers signed on to use their simpler and much more reliable network. It’s only a monopoly because other charging networks are slow to take up that standard and seem not to really care about their networks
The Tesla standard is dead outside N America. In the UK and Europe the standard is CCS with contactless payment. No silly apps, no silly accounts and no silly "car recognition." Contactless is the defacto method of making small payments for just about everything nowadays. Customers can buy stuff wherever they wish and this leads to price competition. Why should charging services be any different? The Tesla standard might have been a good idea early on but now it is pretty pointless.@@GT-22
VW should have made the seats dark blue with red sticking. The piano black on the dash should be dark blue as well. Overall, way too much use of piano black.
Once again, a great video with a lot of information to digest. I have been going back and forth on all of these, but I keep coming back to the ID4. I am looking forward to Spring 2022 for it to arrive.

Hi, Thomas. Vielen Dank für deine Bewertung und das Fazit! I have owned both 2023 Tesla Model Y (EZ 03/23) and 2022 Audi Q4 e-tron 50 (01/23). Tesla has already gone through a major software update and a few minor ones, adding many new features, while I still have not received even a single software update for the Audi (and you have to go to the dealer to get it!). This is an extremely important aspect to mention and consider in your comparison - how long will the car tech stay relevant and up-to-date? Tesla wins by a looong margin, IMHO! As far as the suspension is concerned, I also prefer Tesla's over Audi Q4's here in the NE US. Maybe the car that you used for the review was tuned differently in Shanghai? Have you tested any Berlin-made Teslas?
Well done. You cover A lot of ground in this video and not just in km's. I would probably get model Y for the advantages you mention and love how open and airy they feel. I would get the smallest wheels to help ride quality and maximize range.
I like the exterior of the ionic. It looks sharp but without being overly sensual or overly aggressive, does not look cookie cutter and boring, and does not look German. Driving a German car in the US usually signals that you are conceited, elitist, inconsiderate and entitled. I like buttons, knobs, and switches. However, safety in an accident is huge. And I have seen the crash tests. The Y just wins hands down in that area. The Y also has the Tesla charging network, superb engineers, and Tesla has more experience making electric cars. Oh, and it is the only one of these with a decent fronk. And, Yes, I saw there was an update to this video, I'll take a look. I really want a solar charging car, though. The only choice is Aptera. Not quite out yet. Should be out next year. There are things I don't like about it, those were all recent changes. But buying the first year from a new car company? That is asking for a lot off issues and recalls. I like the utility of a truck, too. I think I would just go with the Maverick. It is not EV but is hybrid and very efficient. Charging an electric truck at public chargers just sounds like a headache. I don't want the nasty looks when my Lightning or Cybertruck takes 2 spots. And partly the reason I want solar charging is that it would be both very expensive to modify my unconnected garage to charge an electric, and very inconvenient to use my garage, as I have a heavy non-powered gate for that driveway. An efficient solar charging electric van would be great (35 miles a day). Tall enough for no stooping for 6'1" or 6'2" wearing shoes and a baseball cap, but not too long to fit in a normal parking space. And no windows in back, a wall with a strong door between the front and the back would be nice as well.
I don’t know if you have these and you forgot to mention it, or that you have an earlier model y. I have a late 2021 model y performance and I love the matrix lights, the double pane windows, the head steering wheel and finally the bio grade Hepafiltration system. Keep up the good work you are doing
Enyaq is better. Anyone can disagree of course but I watched many other reviews and tested them both... In terms of space in the car, design, price, and just the indescribable "feeling" when sitting inside.
@@hannahmeyer4967 Agree...at home I have a wallbox with a cable and on the road the HPCs with CSS Cable...in fact I could leave the cable at home completely. AC Charging on the way is that slow, that I usually do not even think about recharging...only at Work it makes sense.
Tesla locks you in to their network. Very bad. New chargers in UK and Europe must offer contactless payment. That means you can use any provider's charger and reap the benefits of competition just like with petrol.
@@rogerphelps9939 they don't lock you in. You can use any charger you like, in addition to the Tesla network. My Teslas come with CCS standard, as do all European Teslas. You enjoy the best of both worlds
@@ehudk215 what is the point? The Tesla model is obsolete. Everyone is going to use contactless PAYG just like all other smalll payments. EV charging will be no different.
Thanks for the detail! - great video. I've not driven any of them yet, but from this my choice in order would be Model Y (I like the minimalist interior - it makes all the others look complex and old fashioned and the large boot space is a huge benefit with a family looking for an SUV. And - do any of the others even compete on software?) Then Mach-E (Looks great, and Ford's are usually very comfortable), Then Audi (I really like Audi normally, but this is a bit too bling in the flesh.), then iX3 (If I drove them, this might move up the list), then ID4 (too plastic looking), then Ioniq 5 (looks great in photos, but I think it will age quickly, and I don't like the interior), then Enyaq at the far bottom! (I've ordered a Model Y -- and I'm a bit scared about the rough rides. Hoping on the 19" it's not too bad.)
@@eddiexiang3606 Yes if you need to tour. 90% of charging is done at home. I rarely plug in otherwise. In a year or two others will catch up and Tesla will open up their charging network to other vehicles, resulting in long waiting times for Tesla vehicle drivers.

As always.. Thomas you are simply the best and most fair tester i have seen. This must be the long version where all the tests are compiled. It's still fun to watch how hard it is for a German to give such harsh critic for VW/VAG, but i think you are right. Good cars, but the competition is just better. I chose the Tesla Model Y. I think it's the best engineered vehicle, but not the most comforttable one. Yes the suspension might be a bit too hard and a head up display or instruments would be nice, in the dark, but that can be bought in the aftermarket. On the other hand range and low consumption it's in a class for it's self.

@@gavinrowson47 I also have picked the Ioniq5. Ground clearance has been fine and there fairly firm suspension must help in this regard. Previous drive was an Audi A4 Quattro sport with poor ground clearance and less seamless iphone integration.
Yeah have fun charging on roadtrips 😏

Depends of the tastes, but i would take a EV6 or Ioniq5 over all of these, i think the Koreans are on top of the EV game.
There are Tesla's with NMC and with LFP, the price of the cars in the clip makes it compete with Tesla NMC LR Model Y and it has no weight problems, and no problems with charging at low temperature.

@@autogefuehl Leather is byproduct from meat industry should it just be thrown away?
No byproduct.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. Please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html
In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.
If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html
More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html
Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer.
We do not have enough water to drink. And we are imagining of producing hydrogen from water using electricity 😆
Tesla Model Y and VW ID 4 for me .
Is there any rear wiper for ionic 5 ?
Very nice reviews!! I’d choose the Tesla Model Y. I love the simplicity, easy software update and vast supercharger network!
Appreciated!!

Have you tested any Berlin-made Teslas?
yeah good point!
Yes I have: th-cam.com/video/pv33j4s6V4o/w-d-xo.html

Fantastic content. Video of the year.

Well done. You cover A lot of ground in this video and not just in km's. I would probably get model Y for the advantages you mention and love how open and airy they feel. I would get the smallest wheels to help ride quality and maximize range.
Also tune in to the update: th-cam.com/video/dEQubj8fETE/w-d-xo.html
And no windows in back, a wall with a strong door between the front and the back would be nice as well.
thanks for the feedback!
I don’t know if you have these and you forgot to mention it, or that you have an earlier model y. I have a late 2021 model y performance and I love the matrix lights, the double pane windows, the head steering wheel and finally the bio grade Hepafiltration system. Keep up the good work you are doing

@@electrichome6933 Not if you have a dedicated home charger.
Enyaq is better. Anyone can disagree of course but I watched many other reviews and tested them both... In terms of space in the car, design, price, and just the indescribable "feeling" when sitting inside.
@@electrichome6933 minor thing :)

Its very spacious, fast, quick steering (which I like), best charging network.
That said I have a Model X on the way…
Tesla locks you in to their network.
Thanks for following!
Don't forget Tesla's abysmal assembly quality and reliability. CR ranks them 28th of 29, and JD Power also puts them near the bottom of barrel.
@@johnnyViDeO Build quality of the new model Y from Shanghai has dramatically improved.
One of the most important reason I consider Tesla than others is their Charing network.
@@eddiexiang3606 Yes if you need to tour. 90% of charging is done at home. I rarely plug in otherwise. In a year or two others will catch up and Tesla will open up their charging network to other vehicles, resulting in long waiting times for Tesla vehicle drivers.
Excellent review! 👍👍
jaguar i-pace doesnt have a rear wiper either & thats 30k+ euros more expensive than the hyundai, itsok when going along but no good when you have to reverse out after its rained after overnight parking but io suppose all these now have reversing cameras so no need for rear wipers no more i guess.
AMAZING REAL TIME REVIEWS. HATS OFF 👏

Great collection of videos, Thomas!
Enyaq for me. It looks great, very good build and material quality. Huge range of options and it’s the best value and far nicer than ID.4 in every way.

Love this video, Thomas--thank you! Curious how you think the Volvo XC40 Recharge stacks up against these vehicles?
I drove one and it was very poor. Just a repurposed ICE design that had not been thought out very well.
Just buy Tesla model 3 long range, no one is really using the extra space daily, for the 3+6 seasonal trips install a ski box. Ground clearance is more than ok. Thank you.
Tip after market head up display extra buttons etc with the sw upgrades will make this car an exciting economical partner of your life
Interesting... I don't remember you don't a comparison videos.
Detailed review. Good job
🙏🙏
I like the forward view just like me driving!
Thanks 👍
I wish you were consistent with your trunk reviews. I would have liked to have seen measurements on the trunk height of the Mach E vs the Ioniq 5

I have a Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo with 19" wheels. Only the Taycan CT and the MG 5 (at the time of ordering) could take my "walker" without folding the rear seats. No contest!
Those big WHITE displays.. wish there was an option to make them black to match the rest of the interior.
Saving best for last
Great review Thomas as always.

Awesome video!
Thanks feel free to recommend 🙃
Ioniq 5 sold out in my state before they arrived to dealerships. Geez

Same. And most dealers have a 10k market adjustment fee. B.S.
Very well performed tests. I enjoyed following them. I have a question though, in none of the cars the spare tire space was shown At least I didn't notice. Thx
Cheers! Can’t say about spare tire for every car

The BMW interior is great. I love how simple it is. Nothing confusing, minimal distractions, not overly flashy, very little cheapo piano black. BMW UI & iDrive is also well-designed and so easy to use.
