    Great set of videos.
    But a request: please could you show the hand at the moment release in slow-motion? I’m a new archer, and I can’t get myself to stop consciously relaxing my fingers, which causes a jump.
    I know that one problem is that I’m still not getting proper back tension.
    But what does a good release actually look like? I’ve watch many pros and there seems to be nothing happening, nothing happening, nothi... and the arrow’s gone.

    Hi guys, thanks for doing these videos, extremely helpful advice and tips. Do you have any suggestions or techniques for breathing during the draw, anchor, and release? Do you ever slow down your breathing or hold your breath just before you release?

    • @TripleTroubleArchery
      @TripleTroubleArchery  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I (Sjef) breathe out when I lift the bow, breathe in when I pull it back and then open my airways when I extend, so that the air in my lungs can flow out freely. I don't know if this is the way to go but I do it like this and it works well for me!

    • @TripleTroubleArchery
      @TripleTroubleArchery  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I (Gijs) do it exactly the other way around compared to Sjef. I breath in when I lift the bow and breathe out while drawing back. We’ve talked about this on training and it’s very personal what works for you and what fits your way of shooting. I’d say: play around with it a little and go with whatever works for you. Know that both ways can be a good option!

    Thank you guys, I didn't realize that the bow shall move forward during release. Last time I concentrated on back tension to let go the arrow, and it worked well, but I had the feeling I "threw" the bow towards the target. But in your video it looks exactly the same, so it seems that I'm on the right way :-)

  • @shazzle007
    @shazzle007 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very good video. I also 'throw' my front arm (the one that grips the bow) forwards during the shot but I didn't know wether it was a good thing or not, it just 'felt natural'. Nice to see my feeling confirmed in this video!

      do you tend to shoot high you should not throw the bow forward the bow should jump out of your hand after the release

    • @TripleTroubleArchery
      @TripleTroubleArchery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My hands are on the large side and I use a medium tab. For me, this is the ideal size to still have loads of contact between my hand and my jaw. Archery conditioning is mostly just shooting a lot of arrows but you can also google 'SPT' for archery or ask someone at your local gym if they can help you.

    • @ArcheryblogUk
      @ArcheryblogUk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TripleTroubleArchery I also use a medium tab, but just found out using the Fivics chart I should be using a large tab. I bought one, but don't like it as much. Maybe because it's new.

    Hi guys, firstly i want to make you my most simcere congratulations for the precious informations you gave us. secondly i have a question: I see archers like Rick van der Ven shooting with the right hand completely close, and a very deep sit of the string in the hand, and other archers shooting with long and relaxed fingers...what’s best, because seems to me that both in some ways works... thanks in advance for the answer

    • @TripleTroubleArchery

    Hi guys,
    great video! Thanks for sharing. I have one question: Between 2:25 and 2:27 I can see that Gijs is moving his eyes somewhere downwards. I have seen many archers doing that but I have no clue what they are looking at. Is Gijs checking how far the arrow tip is resting behind the clicker before he moves his eyes towards the target again? Please help out. Thanks!

    • @TripleTroubleArchery
      @TripleTroubleArchery  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! You’re right! I’m checking my clicker as an extra reference for my drawlength. I look back up to the target when the clicker starts to move towards the bow since I know I’ll have to draw approx 5 more millimeters untill the clicker actually clicks. This way you’ll never get surprised by the clicker and make your draw a bit more consistent, especially in windy conditions

    How right you are, on one occasion I had just come back from a double York, followed by a double fita star and someone wanted to see my bow!
    I put it all together, put an arrow in it, and drew up!
    The clicker went off, and I made a perfect shot, right through the exact centre of a 6' × 8' window!
    It put a perfect split right down the window!
    You only do something that stupid once! 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😊😊😊😄😊😄🇬🇧😄😄

    I'd like to know how to train the flexibility and strength of back muscles? When I'm a little tired, it's really difficult to go through the clicker, then other unnecessary muscles gets tense. Do you have some training methods to get the backward angle softer and bigger? GREAT THANKS!

    • @TripleTroubleArchery
      @TripleTroubleArchery  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For most professional archers it is a matter of combining strength training in the gym and simply shooting many arrows. Besides this, you can try SPT exercises, easily found through google.

    How far do you bend your fingers? When I draw my finger tips are nearly pointing backwards doing a 90 degree bend in each joint. I feel like I should only bend the first (from the tips) where the string lies and otherwise keep the fingers straight but that feels somehow impossible to do...

    • @TripleTroubleArchery
      @TripleTroubleArchery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your hand is as relaxed as it will be while holding the string, and you feel like the hook is good, then we think that's all you can really do.

    • @nathanward8692
      @nathanward8692 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deep versus shallow hook. The exact angle has a lot to do with personal preference, a hook that's too shallow can lead to misfires or excessive tension in the fingers while a hook that's too deep can lead to plucking or other release issues. Play around with it, find what works for you, and remember that it could change over time as you practice and adjust your form.

  • @mortenjacobsen5673
    @mortenjacobsen5673 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I find that my fingers explode outward as a reaction to the transverse angel (string towards the bow, paradox )even with rhomboid contraction the string does not cut trough the fingers it more like they are pushed away from the string and does not remain vertical even though the follow trough rolls behind the neck natura ly can this be due to the inherent imbalance of power as the bow arm is a longer leaver (fulcrum )and with stabs than the draw arm being folded ? or is or must it be compensate for by the fore arm tension in the draw hand ?(fine motorskill)?

    • @TripleTroubleArchery
      @TripleTroubleArchery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We suggest that you should go back to the basics and try to find a way to relax your forearm, without paying too much attention to which exact muscles you are using. We cannot imagine this helps your shot. Most of the time keeping it simple is the answer in our sport.

  • @raymondschroeder7270

    I believe the shot process begins with the placing of the feet. Then there are other things that lead up to the clicker. So when you say the shot begins when the clicker goes off, I am a sceptic. As to breathing, the control of the breath seems unnatural to me. Runners do not focus on breathing in and out, but snipers do. These are just my opinions. I have learned more by watching you guys than from any coach.

    • @TripleTroubleArchery
      @TripleTroubleArchery  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously there are many steps before the clicker, but I like to look at it in the way I described. Many people work up to the clicker and see it as a relief, whereas most top archers will agree with me that what happens after the clicker goes off is ultimately going to decide if it's a good or bad shot. You are, however, making a very good point. All the things you do before the click are of great importance to the consistency of what happens after!

    • @TripleTroubleArchery
      @TripleTroubleArchery  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have a good hook on your fingers you can try how much tension you actually need on your fingers by pulling your bow back with an arrow on it on short distance and checking when the string goes out of your hand, until you find the right amount of tension

  • @ravenshield56
    @ravenshield56 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just can’t seem to get the concept that the fingers and wrist should be loose with no tension, yet you’re pulling 40+lbs and curving them so you can’t relax them? Something I’ve struggled with for ages

      They can't be fully relaxed if you are holding the string, but you try to have them 'as relaxed as possible' while still being able to pull back your bow. Then when the clicker goes or when you want to release, you release all of the tension
