Ole Miss is historically one of the least successful Power 5 conference basketball programs in the country - they've won all of 2 SEC championships in their entire history and this guy led them to one of the two, with a team that wasn't even that great. And won one of the very few NCAA tournament games the program has ever won also. Say what you want about the guy but he gave people reason to pay attention to Ole Miss basketball and he hung an SEC championship banner at their arena.

He was wild but as an Ole Miss player he was a guy that could potentially score outside of the offensive system and carry Ole Miss with pure scoring at times. He brought excitement to an Ole Miss program that had few exciting players during its history. I can think of only two others - Gerald Glass and Johnny Neumann.

I'd never heard of this kid. But found it funny when you showed the quote from the BYU player he punched.
Emery was an elementary school friend in my grade.
Emery (BYU kid) is a good guy. He won the best basketball player in the state in high school. He could ball. I think they won state all three years in a row and then his little brother got to highschool right as the kid in my grade graduated and the little brothers team went on to be the #1 ranked high school team in the country.
That doesn't happen from a group of kids in Utah.
Like 3 or 4 kids from the #1 high school team all signed to play for BYU. They were pretty good but for whatever reason didn't reach the potential most people hoped for.
And that is your long, useless, extra information story for the day!!
    Cool video.

That's always been the way with BYU. On the rare occasion they land a blue-chip recruiting class, something always blows it up. In the case of Lone Peak, Nick Emery and his Jimmer complex was a head case and imploded, Eric Mika went pro after two seasons, and then TJ Haws's promising senior year was torpedoed by COVID.

One of the major reasons why kids go to bigger schools is it gives them a much better chance to be seen by the NBA scouts. Smaller colleges could limit that exposure. But if you would rather have more playing time and opportunity to be a stand out player on a team, a smaller school would probably be where you would want to go.

Yeah exactly this. It’s apart of Nick Sabans recruiting pitch to Alabama football. It’s on TH-cam somewhere he says: Come to Alabama and you’ll face the best competition in the country, not on Saturday-gameday but Monday thru Friday in practice! The games will be easy after you face the best player in the nation at your position everyday at practice. Oh yeah and also if you ever become a starter here you’re almost guaranteed to be drafted into the NFL

Definitely forgot about this dude but once I saw him in the Ole Miss jersey I said to myself, “Oh yea, this jackass”, but in a kinda good way. He was a solid college player and would have fit into how the game is played nowadays (jacking up 3s) a bit better than in the past, but he had some success. He was just not athletic enough, not tall enough, and couldn’t stay out of his own way. You only get enough chances before you turn from a nice underdog story to a spoiled brat who has had 4 second chances. Good video tho, I’m sure a lot of folks forgot/didn’t even know about dude cause he really didn’t do much (anything at all) post college years basketball wise.

@@bugsyproductions3140 they won the SEC championship. Marshall was their best player and had a very mediocre supporting cast. You’d have to be decent to be the best player on a team that won the SEC championship without much of a team around you. They also advanced past the 4 and 5 seeds in the ensuing tournament. Using FG% is irrelevant for a perimeter-oriented player. Shooting 35% from 3 like he did on very high volume is the equivalent to shooting 52.5% from 2. If he had normal volume his 3P% would probably be even higher, especially if he had a better team where he could rely on his teammates offensively. I think Marshall Henderson was not particularly close to NBA level but he was a good college player.

@@johnnycash2238 I never said Marshal grew up in those conditions as a statement of fact. I said it wouldn’t surprise me if he did. So next time you open up a debate with someone try read what they actually type instead of putting words in their mouth for you to argue.
Like I said there exceptions. But if you’re raised by drug addicts your chance of getting hooked on drugs is increased. That’s a fact that has been proven by several studies.
Also, most rich kids I know didn’t turn out well. Sure they’re successful but that’s not because they worked hard. It’s because mommy and daddy paid for their education and used their money to land them a nice job or help them get their business going.
From my experience the kids that turn out the best are the ones that grow up in blue collar house holds with tight knit families and conservative values. You’re free to disagree but you won’t convince me otherwise.

Can you do a video of Jimmer Fredette? I don’t get why he didn’t have a career in the nba. I think one of the criticisms was that he didn’t play defense but 70% of nba players don’t play defense. His offensive skill set was off the charts. Am I missing something??

Because although NBA guys do coast in some regular season games, when they do compete they play the best defense in the world, but their offense is so good it makes it look bad. But they switch and are so fast and tall, if they played a college team they would win by 50 easy. You would see the defense then.
