Newman was a Hot Dog - and only because his Dad was his Coach kept him from getting benched. Ok as a little kid - but no game with the big boys. No Bouncing the ball off anyone’s head.
Dude is 5'5'' the most, also his early age improper training ruined his forms, plenty of people at 5'5'' shooting like a real SG, not a 10 years old girl form
This should be called the night Lemelo humbled Julian's dad. No one thought Downy would beat Speyer and no one thought Julian was better than Lamelo. Except Julian's dad. You're talking about a kid who wasn't recruited by American universities versus a kid who was already playing professional basketball overseas in high school.
This. I honestly feel bad for those kids, it's so obvious that their dad is a narcistic douche who used and abused their youth/potential just to try and make himself look like a player in the elite basketball world, when they never had any realistic potential in Basketball, especially not with his exclusive coaching. He's really just another stage mom and he's never going to be a player in the elite world, honestly, I was surprised he even managed to get Spire to play them because it really is beneath them. Imagine if he actually supported his kids to be properly coached in a sport like gymnastics, where being short is actually an advantage. Or even soccer, where some of the most legendary players of all time are 5'7-5'9. He ruined their athletic futures and honestly made his kids a joke on social media, it's just a really terrible thing to do as a parent.
Don't even compare Julian to lameo. Julian doesn't even belong on a varsity team for high school. He belongs in a middle school basketball team where he would have to fight for playing time
Why are we talking about Julian Newman at all? These guys were just kids at the time. Newman is one of a million kids who play high school basketball and then don't even become good TH-camrs as adults.
It's interesting to consider this a "good" game for LaMelo. This kind of sleepwalking too easy basketball has given him a terrible reputation for games that matter. Probably would've been better for both players if this game wasn't played.
This game literally had no impact on the consensus on Lamelo at the time. This game never gave him or Spire a bad rep at all😭 the only person hurt by this game was Julian
I mean when you play basketball with your 2 older brothers on varsity and play against some of the most competitive players in California some that even end up in the nba, and you play overseas 2 for 2 different teams and come back vs someone a foot shorter than you that plays for a Christian school against teams that are probably not as good as your competition then you a can clearly see what happened here
The real crime is his father pushing him instead of being realistic about his abilities and height to make it to the next level. He was never going to make it to division one with that body frame.
What's crazy to me is that there are plenty of other sports where they could have been successful! The dad is like a theater mom on steroids and ruined his kids potential, both by insisting they commit to a sport they had no realistic future in, and by refusing to allow them to be properly coached. They could have been phenomenal gymnasts, where being short is actually an advantage, especially given the level of buy-in they would have had from their parents to support the kind of training required to be a good gymnast. There are tons of world class soccer players in that height range and there are several pro tennis players under 5'10". Billie Jean King was only 5'4. The dad is a true narcicist imo, he used and abused his kids potential just to get clout and make himself look like some kind of elite sports guru, when in reality, he's not even on the elite basketball scoreboard in any meaningful way. His biggest accomplishment in that world was getting Spire to even come out. You see this all the time in the classical music world. Parents force their kids to perform extremely advanced pieces at an early age to build notoriety, but as the kids get older it becomes clear that while they were advanced for their age, they don't have the real skill and mindset necessary to further develop into a world-class musician. It's just sad for these kids honestly.
@@michaelmantooth4235 I agree with you. He could have played baseball. There are tons of under 6 foot players in baseball. I think he was just fazed by the fame and used his kids for that.
Lamelo in these clips looks like the epitome of comfort on the court. Like he was born on the basketball court. Newman looks... Well the exact opposite. Just real uncomfortable out there. Tense, alternating between overconfident and timid. Just terrible.
Julian could get into the NBA with a different skillset. The problem is he plays like a 6 foot power forward when in reality he should be playing like mugsy bogues and Spudd Webb. Height isn't a problem if you've got the talent, Mugsy and Spudds time was way more defensive and violent.
This is why I laugh when people say who’d win in a 1 on 1. Shaq or Steph curry, or Kobe Bryant. Dominance beats skill. There’s exceptions, but when both are athletes it’s a no contest
The funny part was that Melo admitted to Overtime Larry in that interview that he indeed runs his IG and always has.. Talk about shading Jaden, like dayum lol, plus Jaden is like 5'2 and Lavar won't approve of that.
