A couple things, back in 2016-2017 I don’t remember anyone ranking Zion ahead of RJ coming out of high school (looked at the ranks: Rivals 5, 247Sports 7, & ESPN 2) dude had massive hype, definitely the most of everyone that year, but it was a pretty consensus rank that he wasn’t the top prospect of the time. Two, I think it’s pretty clear what’s going on, he just flat out doesn’t want to be in New Orleans. You could literally see it on his face that he was majorly disappointed when New York didn’t win the draft lottery, he’s doing everything he can to force his way out of town/sabotage his stint with the Pelicans. But hey that’s just my opinion.

If you have been following Zion’s career so far
You know that their have been a lot of rumors about Zion not loving New Orleans and wanting to go to the Knicks.
So a running NBA conspiracy theory is that Zion is purposefully staying out of shape so he doesn’t need to put miles on his body so he can eventually play out his rookie deal without signing a max extension, taking the qualifying offer and then leaving the Pelicans as an unrestricted free agent.

If the Pelicans can get a top 10 lottery guy and New Yorks pick plus julius Randle...I feel like they will do the trade. Zion to New York for Randle, 2 first rounders with this next pick being a unprotected lottery selection, the next one will be top 10 or 12 protected. The Pelicans will have 2 lottery picks this year and Julius Randle. Next year or the one after will be the first round selection they pair with their own to move up if a player is worth it. Like you said, Bronny hits the NBA after 2 seasons so they might take the selection year after next to get Bronny and sign Lebron. The Pelicans may do that.

Randle ain't coming back, and the pressure from the Nike Hype Job on Zion is over. No GM in right mind would want an undersized/overweight injury prone Diva.

People need to compare Zion to Kenny Lofton Jr. Kenny is a sophomore at Louisiana Tech. He is listed at 6'7" and 275 lbs. Kenny looks 300 lbs to me he is not a high flyer but guys be bouncing off of him. Kenny might make it to the NBA.

My uncle had the exact same walk and it ruined his knees that spread to his hips. 3 surgerys later he now mostly moves around in a wheelchair because the pain.

I believe the pelicans and the fans put too much pressure on that young man and he couldn't handle it. Look how hard he worked during high School and college it's almost like he never had a break since childhood so when he did have an injury, minor as it was he was able to relax for the first time in many years. People forget he is still a young man and not a season ed professional like others to be a role model. And how good were the players surrounding him? Did he have the support from his team to be a leader? The man just needed the rest from all them years of working and working and people don't see that

Sam Bowie wasnt that horrible, though. He would have a solid season between injuries.
Although, he had a serious red flag injury history in college that should have scared teams off until about mid-rd. (No, i dont think Portland should have taken Jordan because they already had Drexler and no one really could expect which one of the 2 would be better at that time).
