He was probably a 3 star because nobody had seen him play against top tier teams. If he put those kind of numbers up in a super competitive division he might have got 1 more star.
Some superstar high school athletes are those who have physically matured faster than their peers, IMO. So they stand out in high school, but when they get to college, the others are catching up in physical levels. The once-superstar may now be average. That's a hard pill to swallow after being hyped up as a superstar with a brilliant future for years while growing up. Not everyone handles it well.
Yes he put up numbers but he was a 4 star recruit ranked No. 307 in his class, he wasn't even the top rated QB the year he graduated. His other offers were Ball State, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Illinois, Kent State. Not exactly the most highly recruited. Makes me wonder what his competition was like.
@@joeycobb6697 And what are Ball State, Kent State and Illinois? I have been out with friends 1 time since semester started (i have 1 professor that gave us 4 textbooks this semester, and on spring break week he could not release homework until Wednesday or Thursday and he did that, so I got full work load with less time to do it)
Well I sure hope his life is in order as it seems to be. I also hope the day comes where he's able to laugh at his own past stupidity along with the rest of us. (I would've liked to know how his parents reacted to the news at Missouri though, especially his father who coached him...)
The most surprising thing about this story is the fact he is a defensive coordinator. With everything he learned about playing the quarterback position I would think he'd be the quarterback coach.
When you’re doing drugs and partying you’re also not eating healthy but most importantly…. You’re not training and when you do train you’re not doing it at peak performance.

A successful QB has to be the team leader and hardest working player on the team. First one to arrive, last one to leave. They have to be a filmroom nut. Talent alone is not enough. Guys like this who are ALL IN on football, are doomed for failure.
That 8 sec Cocaine vid.. made him a liability. He also was perceived that he wasn't mentally tough only had the physical skills, QBs need the brain too. So he lost his shot. Sad. That said if his numbers were stellar, peeps may have looked the other way...he had some absolutely brutal games too..
The Greatest player I've ever seen period, was a big time coke head. His teamates peed into cups for him, it didn't keep him out of Canton which he made in his first year of eligibility. He wore no. 56 for the NY Giants.
Nah, that video didn't end his career. It was the straw that broke the camels back, but if he had been playing well enough, and the coaches had thought enough of him, it would've been overlooked after some "rehab" and "counseling". All the video did was force his coaches to make a choice: Is this kid worth the blow back (pun intended)? The answer was no. It sucks for him, because really he wasn't doing anything thousands of college kids aren't doing any given Friday night...but like you said, higher standard.
He is still here today and doing well, the past ain't coming tomorrow...you live and learn and try to see the next day.

He was probably a 3 star because nobody had seen him play against top tier teams. If he put those kind of numbers up in a super competitive division he might have got 1 more star.
Sometimes the difference between a 3 star and a 5 star isn't talent. It's exposure.
What about that block at 10:15? Dude took out to pass rushers with one block so Mauk could make the throw.
Yeah, I went back to 10:10 and watched. You will never see a better block.
U really need to shorten ur intro. I thought video was over. And it just begun
Yeah it really felt like I had to watch the video twice.
He’s a stoner who has no clue how to make a video. I unsubscribed. Everyone should
His brother was one of my favorite college football players, his arm was held together with popsicle sticks and duct tape.
After the bms talk I'm sold on this guy🤣
He pulled a Carlton from Bel Air😂
Yes he put up numbers but he was a 4 star recruit ranked No. 307 in his class, he wasn't even the top rated QB the year he graduated. His other offers were Ball State, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Illinois, Kent State. Not exactly the most highly recruited.
Makes me wonder what his competition was like.
Good point. That’s a massive gap between numbers and ranking.
Notre dame and Michigan aren't exactly 2nd rate programs, some would say blue bloods
Kenton is a very small town in rural Ohio. Not good comp overall.
@@joeycobb6697 And what are Ball State, Kent State and Illinois? Yes ND and Michigan are good programs but if this guy was really the "best QB in high school history" Alabama or Ohio State would have offered. And keep in mind Michigan was in the middle of the Brady Hoke era just coming off the Rich Rod years two years earlier. The program was in a downswing.
@@turtleislandlac1490 true but let's not act like some of the greats have played college at not so great colleges like big Ben, or Josh Allen, Patrick maholms and on and on
You know what it makes sense having a former QB be a defensive coach. I never even thought of that. Shits genius!
What you left out was that he lost the state championship his senior year. To a little school called Norwayne
It is one of the greatest quotes ever! Keep up all the great work my friend! BMS is great btw 😂
Matt you should do this for the greatest PG in High School Basketball History
Sometimes you just have to sit down and work hard. I am working full time and attend college part time. I have gone weeks without a day off to myself. I have been out with friends 1 time since semester started (i have 1 professor that gave us 4 textbooks this semester, and on spring break week he could not release homework until Wednesday or Thursday and he did that, so I got full work load with less time to do it)
Welcome to life
I love to hear stories like yours. A good work ethic will carry you a long way in life.
@@harrysurtees8710 THank you! I look at it this way, it is a character building experience.
W video like all ways keep up the good work Matt
Well I sure hope his life is in order as it seems to be. I also hope the day comes where he's able to laugh at his own past stupidity along with the rest of us.
(I would've liked to know how his parents reacted to the news at Missouri though, especially his father who coached him...)
He has became a great guy. He now coaches at Glendale High school and trains quarterbacks.
That's still a LOT of INT's at the HIGH SCHOOL level.
too much success can mess up the balance in your head.
The most surprising thing about this story is the fact he is a defensive coordinator. With everything he learned about playing the quarterback position I would think he'd be the quarterback coach.
You’re getting better n better Matt
“It is lockes phone” hahaha
This dude is definitely a Missouri fan 💀🤣 man's delusional af haha
Holy crap, I live in the same area as Kenton Ohio. Marty was a beast
Marty?
@@john1959ism auto correct my bad lol😂 Maty
Me living right next to kenton not expecting him to say he went to kenton
When you’re doing drugs and partying you’re also not eating healthy but most importantly…. You’re not training and when you do train you’re not doing it at peak performance.
I grew up about an hour from Kenton Ohio , it’s a pretty small town , they aren’t playing any real powerhouse programs to my knowledge
Blue Mountain State is great!! They even made a sequel movie to it on Netflix, sadly the regular show is not on Netflix but its on Prime
Gotta love those D5 Ohio HS highlights
its not how you start your race, it's how you finish it.
Love yuh Matt
I played against him when I was a freshman he was a royal pos I sacked him and he got upset tried to fight me so I pushed back and his team jumped me and then my team jumped in it was wild screw this guy I’m glad to see I’ve been more successful in life at this point and I joined the Af and am a SSgt now so that should say something about him
But did you guys win?
Wow, Jamarcus Russell had the state of Alabama high school yards record with 10K. Mauk had almost double. That's crazy.
Today he would be a millionaire the day he stepped onto campus
He didn't play in big school divisions in Ohio, which is why he wasn't wanted in Columbus!!!
He had D1 talent playing against D3-4 schedule!
Walking around campus he was a soft 6'2" nice guy tho. I was at that FL game. It really did go down hill fast
Lord knows I can't talk, no telling what I would have screwed up at that age with that much pressure.
A successful QB has to be the team leader and hardest working player on the team. First one to arrive, last one to leave. They have to be a filmroom nut. Talent alone is not enough. Guys like this who are ALL IN on football, are doomed for failure.
Who ever took that video- I hope they got protection from that man- I bet he was piissseeeeddddd.
That’s why I disagree with the rating system for high school athletes they rarely get it right
He would have fit right in with the Miami dolphins
Look at the out of conference schedule they had. Brutal.
Everyone deserves a second chance at life as long as they don't play the blame game, take responsibility for your actions. I learned that the hard way.
Long video. I was hooked for the first 5 mins but then the story started over again.
On Google he's listed as 6'0" 200 lbs. He was also listed as playing for Kentucky.
Great work !
@@charleshammer2928 different time..80s LT took a pass because of the standards applied
Lol “thanks for letting us know you invest”
i feel like im late to the party...regardless, subbed! great vid m8
Urban Meyer would've loved to party with him
"With great mustache comes great responsibility." - Peter Griffin
The craziest part is his brother has the second most passing yards of all time for highschool
Saying Mizzou is a leading SEC team is like saying Texas Tech runs the Big12
Also in 2013 in the SEC there was a dude in college station taking over the world… can someone remind me his name? Something Mr. Football..? LOL
