- I have a spinal cord injury and use a wheelchair. I live and travel full time SOLO in my accessible campervan. In this video I show what a typical day is like in Canada. I check out a new beach pathway and accessible kayak launch. Along the way I end up getting sick and suffering in the van.

Hey Lisa. I purchased a new to me Unity LTV last year and have been traveling about. I'm 44 years post SCI and now it's time to see the world! Thanks for posting your travels and all the opportunities that you've worked through. I'm heading back to Baja for the winter and just purchased access Trax mats. Sitting on the fence in regards to a bowhead vs a lasher. I'm sure at this point, you are feeling better! Give me a house out if you are ever near AZ. We have a great mountain biking community.

It is always crazy how much things cost when they are made for disabled. Normal bicycles run much cheaper than any hand cycle. Even tires for wheelchairs are much more expensive than for bicycles.
it really is awful, and people with disabilities on average have a lower income that able bodied. it is a vicious cycle!
@@Keepinitwheel306 yes, it is sad. I am glad there are organizations out there who make these items available but until prices go down, owning them is out of reach. I am also glad you are feeling better.

Hey Lisa, I've only recently been introduced to the world of the mobility challenged, my wife has developed arthritis in her knees. If we go any place where she has to go more than a few feet from our truck I take her in a wheelchair. It can sometimes be a challenge. Thank you for bringing this issue to folks' attention. If you've never been there you really can't appreciate how even the smallest thing can be an obstacle. Keep the good stuff coming.
It's so true that unless you know someone with mobility challenges - you don't really think of access. I hope she can get around ok most of the time.

I'm sorry you got COVID. Be very very careful in recovery as you seem like a very driven personality type (Paralympian, natch) and those who have Long COVID and ME/CFS say that bouncing back too quickly & energetically as COVID symptoms start to lessen is what brought on Long COVID. Thanks for the spectacular video! I've been doing advocacy around accessibility in cycling infrastructure, public furniture, and other things, but there's nothing like seeing a wheelchair user point out barriers on video or live to drive the point home. Best wishes for your full recovery!

Having used a mobility aid, and had family members in wheelchairs - I thought I knew what to look for to evaluate a good site for excursions. Your thorough review helps me see with fresh eyes. And yes, everyone benefits when there accessibility is kept in mind! Thanks - the bloopers made me laugh!
Sometimes terrain can be so deceiving! Even I think something looks accessible but when I go to try it, it’s too steep etc.
Glad I could spread some laughter with my Covid test - one good thing to come from shoving a stick up my nostril 😂

I to am just starting to feel better, 2 more days of antibitics left, its been 2months ive been down too, lots of congestion,tired,no energy,flu symtoms at the begining then just could never get over it til I stsrted the antibiotics last monday.🤦♂️🤷♂️🤕🤧😵 I got my bike out saturday and did a small 5mile ride and celebrated my 48th birthday sunday.🎉 been trying to get all my bike packing gear sorted thru so I can do a couple fishin campin rides yet this year before it gets cold!!!🥶🤞☕️🍯🤗

I've had a cold , with a cough, for 5 or 6 weeks, as well. I'm glad it's not just me. I've heard it called 'long covid'. But who knows. Anyway, just hang in there, and take it easy. Take that daytime nap. That's what I'm doing.... I put a couch in, at work !
Yes it seems pretty common! My energy is back thankfully but I still cough a bit. It’s not bothersome though. Here’s hoping you get back to 100% soon.

Hi Lisa I think you mentioned something about enjoying audio books and just wanted to give you my input I have a free library card app called Libby and you can borrow books and audio books on it and one of my favorite ones is *The greatest cook in the world, tales of my mother's kitchen" by Rick Bragg it's it's really entertaining and you learn a little bit about Appalachia and how people cooked during times when there wasn't much money. I am also in a wheelchair and enjoyed a 2-month cross country trip in my minivan and it's great to see videos with someone who is in a wheelchair like me I really enjoy your contributions on TH-cam. Thank you very much.
oh yes I have the Libby and Hoopla apps through my library. The only downside is that popular titles have a long waitlist. Thanks for the title recommendation!

I assumed that you would never get sick.😂 Be safe, get well quickly 👍🏻💯🇨🇦 I wish you could send all of your information to Ontario because they are a little behind in any of their trails even in High Park in Toronto itself is difficult to get to the garbage can because the pavement stops and then it’s too much of a lip of the pavement and then it’s sand & grass to get to the garbage/recycling.

I have some hand dexterity issues from my disability to, and COVID tests are really hard for me. Maybe I need only to go places where I can have people open things. For a lot of soft plastic packages though, I carry children's craft scissors with me.
There are a lot of adaptive tools out there but for me it seems I never have the one I need with me, when I need it 😂

I've been very fortunate that I haven't been sick in years! 6-7years? 👉 The last time was when I lived with roommates! Now I'm a "homebody hermit"! (Living on Disability for the last 20 years)
The only time I'm around people; is when I go to the grocery store! I wear a mask so people stay away from me! I learned my lesson when I was 21 and I was homeless and I almost died of pneumonia! PTSD will change your behavior! Okay, I'll shut up; with my "invisible" disabilities! 🙉🙈🙊
BTW, for context! I live in the United States and they treat people with mental disorders/Disabilities like third class citizens!
