I decided to turn our perpetually messy and wet cat feeding spot into a neat and organized food station! I LOVE how it turned out!! We've since placed a stainless steel tray underneath the station which catches any water that falls through the holes, and I only need to wipe down the top when the cats splash their water around. This station has saved us a ton of time cleaning up and it looks so much neater than what we were using before.

@@gormanghaste A slow feeding bowl would probably be better. Poki would probably abandon the ball to steal from the other cats.
The main thing I wanted to prevent was him throwing up from eating too fast and so far it's been working!
I know they make special bowls for dogs where it's a maze and you scatter the food in there. Maybe that'll work?
it's really cool to see Rachel go from being a beginner in woodworking to making her own designs and executing them so well

I just have the one, and he prefers to eat off a fine bone china saucer, which was the first saucer I used to feed him as kitten, and he is used to eating from it.

Best part of this feeding station video is you see the true scale of their cat sizes. Haku is genuinely huge when compared to the Poki amd Pichi.
Maybe consider getting one of the tray's that goes under a planter box? You could probably find one long enough to fit under the feeder box to catch any water that falls down. And they are low profile so it would probably fit just fine! They're typically sold seperately as well. :D
I was thinking the same thing, but I worry maybe since it would be dark and moist down there that it would be a breeding ground for bacteria they don't want. Maybe do like a floor mat instead that they can wash every so often?
I saw a thing the other day about super absorbent stone bath mats that wick moisture really quickly. Maybe two of those.
if they cut a small slit on the bottom it could be a removable drip tray? Rachel said she was going to wipe down underneath every time, but this way she can just pull out the trays and clean them instead. No chance for mold or bacteria growth!
We added some stainless steel trays to collect the water! So far it's working really well :D

You should get a long mat and put it in front of the feeder and cut out 4 red fabric circles and place them on the mat.

I love how close Poki and Pichi are! Would the Ichiran Ramen Cat Station benefit from a water collecting mat underneath it so you don't get water directly on your floors?
If anyone wants to build something out of wood and would like to protect it against spills I can recommend a natural wax from the German manufacturer “AURO”, type 171. It’s a mixture from beeswax and plant wax and is safe even for children’s wooden toys. I’ve been using it for over ten years and am very happy with it. Initially waxed surfaces might not be as strongly protected as when you use lacquer but its advantage is that you can easily fix small damages without having to sand the entire piece.
This is the cutest cat “ramen shop” ever! I immediately thought of that and then Jun said it! The cats are the cutest customers too. Love when Rachel works on DIY projects, the frustration moments are so relatable haha I hate sanding. 😆

I was going to suggest a carpet under the neko ichiran, one made of a material easy to wash and dry for use on the same day... but seeing how far Pichi can get the water to go, I'm not sure xD This is very cute! I love to see the things you build, Rachel is very creative!
I suggest you put one of these kitchen floor mats underneath the station. One of these thin ones that are easily cleaned a bit bigger than your feeding station. So any additional spillage is much more easily taken care of and you don't need to worry about your floor so much when it's hectic and you don't have time to wipe it immediately

I like your creation... If you put a sliding drawer under each bowl as a catch basin like toasters have then you won't have to move it each time to clean up spills, just retract the drawer and wipe down!
Seeing the cats waiting for them in the morning and running downstairs for breakfast was so sweet! They're so adorable. This looks like the perfect life. And Rachel is so talented and hard working, I'm always impressed with her projects.
I don't know why seeing that cat highway to the second floor is making me so emotional. I remember when you went to those contractors just to show what the process to build a house would be like. He was musing about adding walkqays to the cat and here we are, years later, with just that. It makes me so happy

Suggestion for a small improvement: Add some rubber feet to it that raises the piece a bit. This way small spills underneath that might not get noticed in daily life have a chance to dry causing less damage to your floor.
I do water in dinner so that I make sure they get plenty of fluids. I mix a few tbsp in their wet food. They get dry for breakfast. And we keep water cups and a water bowl (for the dog) as well. Well hydrated kitties are Healthy kitties. Good job!

Also, if you guys want to try slowing Poki’s eating then get a slow feeder cat bowl. It works wonders for my dog and I’m sure it will work for a cat too.

For the water that spills. Add one long piece that goes under all the bowls at a slight angle towards the end. That way all the water will slide/drain down to one end and you can catch save it for watering plants!

Suggestion, maybe line the holes at the base, where the bowls go, with a type of thin rubber to keep from water slipping under. Also a more snug fit for bowls.
