    The haters need to be educated on how this works before they make the comments about "snake oil" or stuff like "just press the pedal faster". Throttle by wire systems used to just be a 1:1 analog signal from the pedal, and the ECU's job was to keep up with the engines demands based on input from the engine sensors. Now the pedal sends digital codes to the ECU first, but it's not 1:1 from the foot pedal - everything, including the throttle position, is controlled by the ECU.
    The pedal is an electronic device is and is just one device of many that sends digital codes to the ECU that tell the engine how to respond. The ECU reads a digital code from the pedal and all other sensors and interprets how to make the engine and transmission work together to reduce emissions and provide a smooth drivable response (thanks to EPA and NHTSA). Throttle sensitivity boosters do more than just amplify the signal from the pedal, and it's done in a way that can not be mimicked by just increasing the speed in which you press the pedal - it talks to the ECU and then the ECU changes everything about how the truck responds - which means the fuel injector ramps, waste gates (boost), shift characteristics, etc. Very simply, it's a "dumb" tuner with fixed parameters, and it is not recorded as an ECU change because it's just an input to the ECU, not like a tuner that changes the ECU (which is why it can not be detected by dealers for warranty issues and it's allowed for sale in CA).
    Think of it this way: your gas pedal sends signals to the ECU that mimics it's position in order of depression - 1, 2, 3 ,4, 5 and so on. It can only be in that order no matter how fast you press the pedal down, and based on that input order, the ECU will not go past a certain ramp up speed no matter how fast you push down the pedal. it will be very close to 1:1 if you press it normally; but the faster you press it down, the ramp curve slows down because the ECU is waiting for the inputs from the emissions system and trans to catch up. But that process is based in part on the digital codes coming from the pedal - in very simple laymens terms, the booster sort of changes the send the order to 1, 3, 5, 7... , or 1,5, 10, 15.. and the ECU is tricked into thinking it has to play catch up, which takes priority over the other emissions and fuel economy inputs. That's way over simplified, but the point is don't think this just increases the analog amplitude of a signal from the gas pedal, because that would obviously have no effect on an ECU controller car.
    I could show how it works with with math and graphs and stuff, but i've already probably bored everyone to death with my tech dork description, so just try the device and see for yourself.

      Drive a BMW diesel and anyone should be able to understand the throttle body and pedal is not 1:1, so much delay it's insane... not turbo lag. (forums say something to do with torque management?) Hoping to buy one of these soon for the ole bimmer.

Its like driving a whole different truck and the price isn't bad at all for what you get, it has over 32 different settings for you to find the one you you like.

    I finally installed the Pedal Commander in my 18 Ecodiesel. After a few weeks of driving around. I have a few things to say. First Fiat/Ram what the hell? The difference is night and day. There had been a few times I feared pulling out in traffic. I thought my truck was too slow in getting up to speed. Until this video, I never knew about the voltage thing. Now my truck is a really good daily driver. Thx for the video Jay. PS I bought my module through Amazon for $210

      How is everything now, after 1 year installed? I have a 2015 Ecodiesel - deleted EGR, cats, res, DEF, after market air intake, Green Diesel ECM - and I had it in +2 and everything was great until I was working in -40degC on night shift and left it idling all night; I started getting a Service Electronic Throttle code which completely disabled the electronic throttle. I luckily had a OBD2 code reader and cleared the code and discovered that not allowing the truck to idle for 8-12 hrs prevented the issue. It still happens sometimes if cruising in neighborhoods at idle for 10+ minutes. I haven't removed the booster, just changed it to stock settings and it hasn't caused issues since.

    People who like the pedal commander or any of the other clones have no idea how a throttle by wire system works. When you press down on the gas pedal your ecu sees the signal then sends your throttle body instructions on how far to open. The pedal commander attaches to the gas pedal and alters the signal that goes from the gas pedal to the ecu.
    The problem people are trying to fix with the device is the so called lag they feel when they press their gas pedal down and when the car actually starts moving. For some reason people think that the signal going from the gas pedal takes a long time to travel to the ecu and that is why they have a delay. The signal actually reaches the ecu instantly and the signal going from the ecu to the throttle body is instant as well. So why is there a delay? Because the automotive makers built it into the software. Its called torque management. If you slam your foot down to the floor what happens is the ecu says, nope, and gradually opens the throttle body not giving it full power right away because it doesnt want you to spin the tires and lose control of the car. Pretty much every modern car does this.
    So what does the pedal commander do? It lies to the ecu as to how far youre pressing the gas pedal. So if you press it 30 percent the ecu may see 50. So by the time youre at 70 to 80 to 90 percent the ecu is seeing 100 percent full throttle making it feel like the car is accelerating faster. The problem with this is that now the pedal resolution has been greatly lowered making it more light switch like and the 1 to 1 throttle pedal to output ratio has been thrown out which makes it feel less like the old throttle by cable systems which were 1 to 1 ratios. No matter what setting you have on the pedal commander the ecu will still slow down the rate at which your throttle opens since this product installs before the ecu signal and not after and torque management is still there.
    My opinion is that this product and all its clones are snake oil. These companies prey on people who dont understand how a modern throttle by wire system works. It doesnt get rid of any lag because there is none to get rid of. It will do nothing to how fast your car accelerates to sixty. Dont waste your money on this huge rip off. To get rid of that delay you have to get a tune which will remove torque management. Also, a tune can alter your throttle to output ratio to whatever your want making the pedal commander totally useless. Yes if you have both a tune and a pedal commander at the same time you have literally just flushed 300 bucks down the drain. This pedal commander is worth 30 bucks at most. My RC radio controller can do this exact same thing except I get to totally customize what my throttle does with a visual graph and lcd display plus I have atleast 20 more functions and its wireless all for 40 bucks. So please dont waste your money on this garbage product.

    I have a Hemi Ram with an edge tune, K&N CAI, BBK shorty headers, flowmaster outlaw super 10 exhaust, Shift kit, line booster, and 355 gears with the pedal commander. I no longer use the pedal commander. It makes the truck TOO fast as far as throttle response. Literally it works as advertised and I am fully satisfied with it, but I need to not replace tires every 30000 miles. The plus 4 sport option makes the truck seem like a beast. 0-10% throttle input equals 0-100% normal throttle input. Very great for reaction times and off the line acceleration. Whenever I let someone drive the truck, I put the pedal commander to sport+ and +4
    Everyone says its the fastest most powerful vehicle they have ever driven

    I love it; it works great on my Tacoma SR 4x4! Basically it controls throttle response. It doesn't add power to your engine, but allows you to access it more or less quickly by varying the strength of the electronic signal sent to the ECU. I do everything from towing a 3,500lb travel trailer in the lowest Eco mode and get as much as 15mpg, to off roading where at times I want less response because it's so bumpy you don't want "crisp" throttle respinse, or sometimes more to power thru a mud bog. I have 33" tires as opposed to the stock 29" tires that came on the truck, and factoring in the corrected mileage, I get 18mpg city with a constant 300lbs of crap in the bed, a roof rack, no front air dam, etc. It's better than a "chip" because of it's choice of 39 different settings, doesn't violate your warranty, and you're not stuck with crappy mileage because you upped your horse power with a one-dimentional performance chip. I've been running it for a year and my comments are based on actual experience. Worth the money!

    • @ArcticAstrophysics
      @ArcticAstrophysics 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The eco mode on the pedal commander only delays the throttle response time while accelerating from a dead stop because that is when you burn or waste the most amount of fuel. Cruising on the highway it doesn't do anything, you could have had it in sport +4 the entire trip and still averaged 30 mpg. Eco mode is not doing something magical inside the engine to give you better fuel mileage it just slows the response of the throttle opening. My girlfriends 2015 Hyundai Tucson has Eco mode and the lag or delay from the pedal acceleration is so god awful in Eco mode we keep it off. My 1984 Dodge Power Ram has a 1:1 throttle response because it is a physical cable opening up the throttle and let me tell you the difference it makes when you mash your foot down is insane

      Actually, even though it does not increase peak HP or Torque, it can give quicker 0-60 and 1/4 mile times because it can get more power and torque to the ground earlier than you otherwise could. This gives higher cumulative power (area under the curve) by the end of the run, resulting in better times. There are TH-cam videos demonstrating this. Personally, I prefer the Sprint Booster, but they are both good units. Sprint Booster does not seem to have the lockup/freeze problem.

    This will probably be a great add on for us guys who live in Cali. I know this isn't a tuner, but getting any type of tuner in Cali is almost impossible because of emissions. If you have to get the tuner updated that is even a pain because the companies cannot legally ship it to Cali. Not to mention if your truck is newer you don't want to risk voiding your warranty.

Then get a pedal commander. It makes a weak 4.7 feel like a sports car. Also city +2 gives me better gas mileage then the factory settings do.

    Does this make the throttle respond any faster than stock if you mash the pedal to the carpet both before and after installing it, or does it just make your inputs more aggressive for you?
    I've been recommended to check these out but I do not trust them to do anything other than pin the gas for me, which I'm capable of doing on my own.

    Aka throttle controller. Does noting but tell the ecu the accelerator is pushed down more % than it really is. So, 10% stock is now more likely 15/20%. I got one as part of a stage one kit as it claimed to reduce the lag I got from putting my foot down to the car actually responding. Works well. Can be dangerous. Turn it way up and mine fries my tires.

    Which is better, an ECU tune or this one?

    • @pheonixsunnz948
      @pheonixsunnz948 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ecu tune changes the computer setting this just increases the sensitivity of the throttle body. Ecu tune usually adds power as with this it adds no power. On newer vehicles under warranty ecu tune will void warranties unless it's a plug and play or you want to keep reverting to stock and then to your tune. This you can leve plugged in tuck the controller box away and take it right in to service and nothing will be discovered within computer scan. Longer story short it's all what you want. Quicker acceleration no added power...pedal commander. Quicker acceleration AND more power...ecu tune

    Pedal Commander truly works...I have one on my 370Z and the throttle response is nothing short of amazing. All of the naysayers below just simply talk themselves out of something because they don't understand how it works. It DOES get rid of throttle response lag. That's all it does. To quote a responder, "No matter what setting you have on the pedal commander the ecu will still slow down the rate at which your throttle opens". That is untrue. With the Pedal Commander, the ECU does not slow down the rate at which the throttle opens. And, it does get rid of the lag caused by today's ECUs. I know from experience...I have no lag now when I press my gas pedal with the Pedal Commander attached, where before installation, I did.

    I heard this was a cool item, if you just want throttle control. I'm still stuck on the tuner with adjustable parameters across the board. I also never had a warranty issue with my tuner on the truck. The dealer actually has a no flash notice in their system whenever they pull my truck info.

    • @crazyhass84
      @crazyhass84 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HEMILIFE 410 lmao. They know u have it tuned! Dealer just turns a blind eye. Dealers don't pay warranty. Fca does. So if u have an issue good luck getting it covered by the manufacturer. On a 50k truck it's not worth the risk.

    • @teaminfiniti4105
      @teaminfiniti4105 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andy Hass yeah no 2 situations are the same. I got my 13 brand new and tuned it at about 9000 miles and I've had a few warranty issues taken care of. Most important was the mushrooming of the valves. They had to replace the whole left side head and they knew it was tuned. One service guy did act a little funny but they took care of me. Every oil change they know not to flash any updates without asking me first. So in short yeah it's all on your service advisor and the relationship you have with them.
