I've owned a 3rd gen, 4th gen, and now a 5th gen 4Runner. So, I'm VERY used to how a 4Runner accelerates. I ordered a pedal commander a few months ago and just got so busy that I didn't get around to installing it until last night. Holy heck, it's so very awesome! My only regret is not getting one sooner. It makes driving it even more fun.
I had an '05 4Runner with the 4.7 v8 which had great power and throttle response. I suppose that spoiled me. When I bought my '21 4runner, I noticed how sluggish the response is with the 4.0 v6. I was initially worried that I got a lemon, but later discovered that this is a common issue with 4Runners with the 4.0. I'm glad to see that a solution exists and plan to install a Pedal Commander. Thanks for the review!
Good video. I have a different problem I'm hoping it will fix- on wet roads, my tires break loose when I accelerate. Hopefully the Eco Mode setting will fix this problem and will ease into the acceleration more gently.
Great video, as always! I am planning to purchase this after watching your video. Now quick question since this video is 2 years old. how was it now? did it give you any lights that came on on your dash? cause I saw some are complaining about it. Thank you so much!
I'm all too familiar with that nervousness during emerging. I have an uphill on-ramp that's usually pretty crowded on my way home from work, I definitely have to plan my maneuvers ahead. I've been dragging my feet on getting one of these for a while, hopefully there's a good Black Friday deal coming up.
Yeah I have a link for it on Amazon for a little under $300 (at this moment). If you check Pedal Commander's Instagram I think it's $75 off if you order it directly from them for Black Friday. Amazon is the only store I have an affiliate thing through (I'm trying to get more) so that's why I link to them.
Nice vid and first one that shows us the app.. and now i know I want one. I dont want to kill the mpg but dont like the delay.. so use it without leadfooting should be perfect! Thank you !
This is the second video I've seen where the wiring has been routed under the steering column. I guess if you never raise/lower the steering wheel you don't have to worry about pinching the cable. I always lower my column, so it looks like your mounting solution, though very clean, just really wouldn't work for me LOL. Great video, and I'm glad you wife liked the results. Peace.
Gulp, gag! That's the sound of me eating crow. I just looked at the space under the steering column with it in its lowest position. Looks like there's plenty of room for the cable. See what happens when we assume, you end up saying something stupid like I did lol. Peace.
I would be interested to see your fuel economy before and after installing and using the pedal commander to see if there is any really difference in fuel usage with the commander. Also interesting that you have to leave the keys 35 feet away and the door open for 10 minutes before installing. Nice video Jason, God bless!
Thanks Joseph! So far gas mileage is the same as before. I want to use eco mode on a road trip and see if it improves. But yeah no difference just driving around normally.
@@JasonExplainsThings Thats good that it hasn't gone down, I'd hate to see a noticeable decrease in mileage just from using the commander! Looking forward to seeing if the Eco mode does really improve mpg
So that all depends on the setting you have it on. I'm still using City 1 I think. The MPG seems to be about the same, maybe 1 MPG worse. I could set it to Eco and likely improve it. It's kinda like adding driving modes to a vehicle that doesn't have them built in.
I don’t know why, but I’m really nervous about setting this up on my ride. I’m working toward it though. I feel like my forerunner’s accelerating lag is unacceptable if not dangerous at times.
@@gosu8075 i’m finally getting used to the forerunner’s acceleration pattern. I came from a jeep, that’s real torquey and you always had that response. But I’ve gotten used to it. Adaptive cruise you mean? It should have nothing to do with that. The adaptive cruise has its own settings… 3 levels of distance between other vehicles.
I am really on the fence about this thing. The pedal response on my 22 Colorado is as terrible as every other truck from the factory and I’m tempted to install a PC. But the internet has plenty of horror stories to share about error codes and engine lights. I put a HiKit on my 2012 Wrangler a few years ago and I loved it. For a while. Then I started having all kinds of ECM problems that I could never prove had anything to do with the throttle controller. But it also caused me to have to get rid of that truck, so I’m pretty gun-shy about installing this. Did Chris ever put one on his Bison? Are you still trouble free with yours?
I don’t use it. I feel like throttle lag makes the vehicle harder to control and therefore less safe. I set it to city and it’s been that way now for almost 2 years.
