I live on an island with 1 tiny book shop which has the smallest selection of books so I always order my books from book depository as the shipping is free and with where I live thats pretty rare! :)

I often buy from Amazon, because I often read English books, and I don't live in an English speaking country, so we don't have that many English books in normal book stores
Yes! It’s so cheap there, I live in an island in Japan and English books and shipping to here is sooo expensive. Books here is around $20-$40 just for one book.
I haven't bought books from amazon in over a year. I am trying hard to buy books from local bookstores and smaller websites. I want to help support as many small bookstores as I can. SAVE ALL THE BOOKSTORES!!!! I love thriftbooks! Their overall company just seems wonderful. They work directly with libraries and charities, and they have free shipping over $10. WOOT! This is a great idea for a video and discussion. Great job xx
I love shopping at Barnes and Noble, I love reading before I buy. But I also love thrift stores, Goodwill always has good books that cost less than $5. Most of the books I buy from there have cost around 50 cents to 3 dollars. I live near LA in Cali so I love going to The Last Bookstore, and the is also the Iliad Bookshop.
There is a thrift store where I live it is called "Red White and Blue" ( I don't know if it is everywhere or not ) but they have a huge selection of used books and they are mostly 2 dollars!
I live in Canada so I go to Chapters or Bookoutlet (including the physical store) for new books and for used I have been going to our Goodwill store on their 50% off days.
I live in the mountains in a tiny town. We have three gas stations, a market, a bakery, and a Chinese food restaurant. But we do have a library, which has a yearly sale. I also visit three other libraries in the area for their book sales. Half an hour away is a Barnes & Noble, but I mostly buy from their website. The neighboring towns and cities though, have a TON of used bookstores, so I check them out whenever I can. I am super lucky though, because there is one small independent bookshop about 20 minutes drive. They have one location here and one across the border in Vermont. I have met so many authors because of the events they bring to the shop (Gail Carriger, Scott Lynch, Gabrielle Zevin, Neil Gaiman, just to name a few) There prices are more than Barnes & Noble, but I like supporting small businesses, local people, family run places. And of course, Book Outlet! They are brilliant with their sales and discount codes. And yes, Book Depository is owned by Amazon. And also Abebooks.com is owned by Book Depository, so therefore under the Amazon umbrella too.
I miss Book Depository! Ugh I have ordered quite a few books from Thriftbooks, and I really hesitate to purchase anything from them. First, they usually ship in a plastic bag. Yikes! Secondly, they tend to send you whatever they want at first try. For example, I ordered a gorgeous hardcover of Birdsong. They sent a softcover. Or I order a book in "Very Good" condition, and it is an ex-library book. Third, shipping can be up to 3 weeks. I also believe Amazon owns Thriftbooks. Amazon has been on my bad list for their practices (they tried to ship books in paper bags, usually arriving damaged). So I like to use Pango Books or Blackwell's.
i'm so glad for this video. i've been buying all my books at alibris because their prices are so damn low, but i read a LOT and as time goes on i wonder why they don't offer me rewards for how much i spend there. just looked into thriftbooks and they have a pretty decent rewards program, so i'm switching :^) ty for this vid
I use most of those same sites, though thrift books and Abe books are new to me. I buy MANY books at the thrift store. Some are well loved, some not. It is hard to resist though when one of my favorites is Buy One Get One free and they are only 30 cents each. I typically buy one time reads at thrift stores or well loved copies. However, I find tons of great finds in amazing condition. My only rule is that the spine isn't cracked. I also buy vintage books or popular hard backs on eBay from time to time. Finally, I order through scholastic. My boys bring home the flyer and then I go online and go to the Teen/Adult section and type in books under $3. I recently purchased Sherman Alexi's The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian for 2.50.
The only Barnes and Noble store around where I live (Western New York) is forty minutes away and don’t always have the books I want so I buy both online and offline
I buy a lot of my books from Waterstones. (I live in Scotland and im not sure if they have Waterstones in other places in the world) It can be expensive but they have so much selection. I also by some books from Tesco. I have bought All my Harry Potter there( I love Harry Potter and i only spent about £34 on all of them) and I bought the amazing book One of Us Is Lying there. 😁
I am fortunate to live near my city library that has a library bookstore that sells books like super duper cheap like $1 for a book cheap and $4 for newer books cheap
Great video Hannah! I do tend to forget that because I live in a big city, I have access to lots of different places that are super convenient for me to get to, and lot's of other people may not have those options. But it's so great you're branching out on where you're shopping! :) x
abebooks, unfortunately, belongs to Amazon. :/ A good alternative is alibris.com. Also, I like to buy books from thriftbooks, but a few times I ordered books in "very good" condition and when they arrived they turned out to be in terrible condition. Maybe I just have bad luck, though...
I love bookoutlet! When I first discovered it I wanted to buy everything lol. I recently just bought 2 books from bookoutlet both hardcover brand new books for 10$ together. Such insane prices omg. I love book despostory but they don't always have the best prices which sucks. I mostly buy from barnes and nobles because every holiday and birthday I get loads of barnes and nobles gift cards even though I say I would like something else : /. Lots of my friends just assume I want barnes & nobles because I'm a book nerd! Like I would rather get a visa card and buy books on bookoutlet with it but nooo. Also barnes and nobles.com has some cool deals signed books, the exclusive edition of a book with a reduced price so that's great
I get a lot of my books from target online. it’s much cheaper than Barnes and Noble. Target also has sales on books once a month buy 2 get 1 free. The Harry Potter books hardcover from Barnes and Noble is $155 but in target it’s $108 for all 7. Target has everyman’s library, Canterbury classics, Macmillan collectors library, penguin classics, puffin books, and those beautiful clothbounds and other great book publishing companies. Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone hardcover in Barnes and Noble $24.29 Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone hardcover in Target $13.49 Outlander hardcover in Barnes and Noble $31.50 Outlander hardcover in target $15.99 I don’t buy my books from target until the sale buy 2 get 1 free comes. They have the sale for 3 days. So once in every month the 3 day sale.
I don't like ordering from Amazon because they've sent me a different edition of a book than what was advertised one too many times lol. Thriftbooks seems great! I have a bunch of stuff in my shopping cart on there waiting to check out. They always seem to be having discount deals too.
That's so frustrating! I've never had that happen before with Amazon but I know it's happened to many other people as well. I just received most of my order from thrift books in the mail and I'm pretty pleased! I'll be showing them in my November book haul, but for now I can say I'll be buying from them again!
so i live in Sri Lanka, and ive checked a couple of websites and none of them ships to Sri Lanka except for Book Depository, Amazon and Ebay i dont wanna buy on Amazon because theres a shipping price. I remember i was planning on buying a 60$ bundle and the shipping price alone was 100$ And i dont wanna buy on Ebay because they dont really have a good selection of books except for used ones, and i personally am a huge reader and i love my books to be nice and clean. And shipping + prices for some of their books are insane. because of that im going to try Bookdepository, it does ship to my country, so would that be a good idea?
We also have Prime and the fast "free" shipping is awesome. I don't buy a lot of books on there, though. It's really my fall-back if I can't find a book elsewhere. I'd honestly buy from Barnes and Noble if they had any deals, ever. I have found their discount card isn't really worth it though. I miss Waldenbooks/Borders because they actually did sales. I love books but I can't always afford cover price. My favorite website is Book Outlet! Will have to check out Thrift Books. While I do prefer new/like-new, I am also OK with books that have wear because that means they were well loved and some of my favorites are like this. I hate when they are about to fall apart, though. Locally I really like my Ollie's Outlet, but I think they are mostly an East Coast thing. But you can get super cheap books there and good ones, too. I got brand new hardback Stephen King books for less than $5 a piece! We only have one used bookstore left in our small city and I rarely go because they don't have a ton of selection. Mostly old romances but sometimes they have nice editions so I might go get some of those when we have more room. The other used bookstore shut down but I had stopped going because they said my book credits had expired when they hadn't. I also like Goodwill, though selection is very selective. Our local library has a big sale every month so sometimes those are fun, though it gets really crowded and selection varies. One time I really lucked out, though! If you're up to parting with any of your own books, such as ones you don't care for, BookMooch is a great book swapping website. Used to get a lot of books on Goodreads Giveaways but I rarely win them now. Maybe they decided I'd gotten too lucky. I usually can't afford the special/pretty editions of books but when I see one I can afford, I grab it. We have a special collection near the front door. Some of them were found at Goodwill. I really want some of the pretty Barnes and Noble leatherbound editions.
I have Amazon Prime student and I get free one day shipping. I tend to try to avoid bookstores just because I lose an entire day just looking at books. :/ Honestly, books in the UK are pretty cheap but at the same time the exchange rate of between Malaysian and UK currency is insane. I have to multiply the prices of books by 6.7 D: Just makes Amazon prices very hard to resist. :
+A Clockwork Reader I bought a book from Waterstones the other day and I wanted to cri because when amazon has sales I could buy 3 books for the price of that one book I bought. hahahah
Thank you so much for the information. Where I live it's really hard to find books in english that aren't expensive, I will definitely look this pages up. I love your videos Hannah! Since the very first one the quality has been incredible. You almost have 2k followers, are you planning on making a special video? Can you give us a bookshelf tour? Do you keep all of your books there? Because it seems like you have a lot of books and very little space.
I literally JUST received an order from thrift books and it was my first time ordering from there! Also how much is shipping on book outlet? I've heard a lot about its shipping being expensive but how much is that??
+estefani farfan For people in the US it's 3.99 for the first two books and then 50 cents for every book after that. But I know that for other countries it's more expensive.
Not being mean, but she was going “I love this book store. I greatly recommend it.” And she said this 1000 times. And I’m WAITING for her to say the name of the store. 😂 Buts it’s fine. XDD
Wow I didn't know they are having a store in Seattle, thats my hometown I will check it out! I always refer people amazon, but I buy books from Hastings (owner of netflix) Great video:) my goodness I would have a hard time in a small town without access to book stores. Im the same way because I need my books perfect usually.
+A Clockwork Reader thats the genius behind buying netflix! They are like a family owned best buy and saw the potential in netflix and bought it so now they have no competition:) great video
You can use package forwarders to ship the books outside US. Check out planetexpress.com. I use them frequently. Buy anything from US and they'll ship it to you in your country at very cheap rates
Jeepers I can't believe Amazon is opening up their own bookstore!! I've actually never bought anything online before! I also live in a tiny town and there are no big bookstores. One used bookstore which I love but also noticed the prices are very high for secondhand books!!! As one of my favorite booktubers I have tagged you in my new original book tag which I'll be uploading first thing in the morning - I really hope you''ll check it out and see if you'd like to record it! If you do please let me know I'd love to watch your video on my new and fun tag! :D With love, Jade
I mostly use Amazon because, as I live in Italy, I have the prime and I can have the free shipping~ unfortunately, even if the book are pretty cheap on other websites, I tend to spend a lot more money because of the shipping costs than the book itself. It's not really worthy if, at the end, there is no difference between the original price of the book and the "book on sale + shipping" price! It's kinda useless and there are no profit. So I tend to buy on Amazon and also in my local bookshops. Since our publishing industry is in crisis, there always a lot of sales and you can get a good deal even on more expensive books~
And that makes a lot of sense. I have family who lives in Italy and I know they also have a hard time buying books anywhere else online. Shipping is just ridiculous!
if i buy an ebook i save using gas to drive half an hour to nearest bookstore and save a tree from being cut down so maybe e readers are slightly more environmental......? 😂
I live on an island with 1 tiny book shop which has the smallest selection of books so I always order my books from book depository as the shipping is free and with where I live thats pretty rare! :)
Free shipping is so hard to resist!!!
it's not free tho. the shipping is included in the price.

same here and they are pretty expensive at the bookstore
Hell's Mirror sameee
I wish I lived in the US... Books are so cheap there!!
Same same! And the worst thing is that not so many bookstores (for buying novels to be specific) are there.
It’s not as cheap as you think here in the US
Me too 😭
@@booksarecool1521 it's cheap compared to the local prices here.
Yes! It’s so cheap there, I live in an island in Japan and English books and shipping to here is sooo expensive. Books here is around $20-$40 just for one book.

In England, I really use WHSmiths or Waterstones, and it's wonderful and old fashioned.
jelly baby productions. I love Waterstones but it's quite expensive

Not to mention the shipping time...
I'm pretty sure Amazon owns Book Depository and AbeBooks
Yup, so we’re all giving all of our money to Amazon
I live in Canada so I go to Chapters or Bookoutlet (including the physical store) for new books and for used I have been going to our Goodwill store on their 50% off days.

You should check out better world books! Super low prices, free shipping, huge selection, and they support a great literacy cause.

Any websites which take pounds sterling / offer UK delivery? Xxx
I'd never head of Hastings before! I'll take a look at them, thanks!
+A Clockwork Reader thats the genius behind buying netflix! They are like a family owned best buy and saw the potential in netflix and bought it so now they have no competition:) great video

Hi Hannah! Does the free shipping (Book Outlet) is applicable for outside US ? :)
atiqah johar I think it’s only for the US. :)
The Terrasen Reader oh ok thank u :)
You can use package forwarders to ship the books outside US. Check out planetexpress.com. I use them frequently. Buy anything from US and they'll ship it to you in your country at very cheap rates

Why you don’t want to buy book from amazon?
This video just made me want to buy books haha.
Making made me want to buy books too!!
With love, Jade
I'll definitely go check it out when it's up and let you know!
A Clockwork Reader Thanks darling! It's now up and available! :)
I have a suggestion: Enter book give aways online, not everyone could win, but it's worth a shot.
Thankyou good info!
Oh my god thank you

Book Outlet costs so much to ship to England that it's basically worthless and we don't have an English equivalent. Blah.
