I just read Babel bc of your required reading list video and it was easily my favorite book of the year! So moving and stunning and insightful- Thank you for the rec!!!
Yes, I read Babel too this year and it was brilliant! It filled me with nostalgia and righteous passion. Just so so good. I enjoyed what it had to say about the art of translation as well.
i started reading Piranesi late at night while at a tram stop because i needed something to do and i still think about it daily. i recently said to a friend it’s a mix of The Starless Sea and If We Were Villains and it makes absolutely no sense but it does to me. it’s so, SO good
Piranesi is one of my favourite books. I read it in one evening and I truly have never been so immersed in a novel. I feel like it definitely gives the same vibes as The Starless Sea, but it's less disjointed and has a plot that can easily be followed. But Piranesi really changed me. It's definitely worth sticking out.
@@ssd1453 push through If you want. I think it's worth it too. I couldn't read it in one sitting because it was so confusing to me and I felt like taking breaks until the pieces of the puzzle started to make sense.
I'm a huge fan of knowing as little as possible going into books, so thank you for sharing enough information for me to know whether I want to read these without spoiling anything!
I totally agree, I don't know why but this year it was hard to find inspiring stories. I've read a lot less than usual and I've DNF'd a lot of books. I hope that 2025 will bring its share of wonderful stories!
You are honestly my favorite TH-camr and I get so happy when you upload because everything you say is so detailed and genuine. Your book recs nearly never miss (besides heart stopper 🙈.) I am VERY picky when it comes to reading and I have found you to be a very reliable source when looking for my next read. ❤ So excited to see what 2025 brings for us readers.
my top 5 books this year! 1. Rouge by Mona Awad 2. Babel by R.F. Kuang 3. How green was my valley by Richard Llewellyn 4. The perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky 5. My year of rest and relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh
We love you too hannah ❤ please take care of yourself because your mental health matters more than anything and I only hope that 2025 is more kinder to you because you've been a source of comfort to me since 2019 and I hope your life is filled with happiness & joy. Also, Thank you for everything, Hannah (my favourite content creator)
My two favourite books this year were The Starless Sea (thanks for the rec, Hannah!) and Evenings and Weekends by Oisin McKenna. Also read and loved all the Diviners books. But it’s honestly been the year where I‘ve returned to my roots and read so much fantasy which has been lovely!
This book was my favourite book the year it came out and it's still one of my favourites. It's an experience. The sense of discovery and exploration and mystery reminds me a little of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild if you're looking for something with vaguely the same feeling?
I love how different your book tastes are to the other booktubers I watch. You've convinced me to move Piranesi up my tbr. I am determined to have much more variety in my 2025 reading year.

I read As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow because of your recommendation, and it was my number 1 favourite book of 2024, so was very excited to see this video pop up in my feed!
Omg I also read exactly 36 books this year, and it was also an year when I was kind of bored with my readings. I actually enjoyed most of them, but I wasn't obsessed, and I miss that feeling
I read the Divine Rivals duology this year, and that by far I think was my favorite read of the year! I also finally gave Emily Henry a try to see what the hype was about, and yeah, I definitely get the love! Loooooved Funny Story!
You will absolutely LOVEE "Our Wives Under The Sea" by Julia Armfield!!!!! It is a SAPPHIC GOTHIC FAIRYTALE and also my fav of this year (On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous being 2nd).
Did you know Piranesi is getting adapted to stop motion? Studio Laika, the creators of Coraline, are making it into a movie! Piranesi is my FAVORITE book ever.. so so good ugh
Interview with the Vampire is a long term favourite book. It was the first book I stayed up through the night to finish. And then when I finished it, at 2 am, I was so freaked out, I couldn’t get out of bed to switch the light off! So I slept with the light on. It was that well done.
I absolutely loved Daisy Jones and the Six, and I recommend the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo if you haven’t read it. It’s by the same author and it’s also written in a more unique way and I am obsessed with it. Loved this video ♥️
I watched iwtv last month partially thanks to you and absolutely loved it and currently own the book, so I’m really glad to hear you read it and liked it
I watched interview with a vampire after you recommended it and fell IN LOVE💘 You know a show impacted you when you can't stop thinking about it months after you watched it. Thank you Hannah for always giving the best recs. I can't wait to read the books on this list as well ❤
this wrap up made me feel that maybe you're not enjoying reading that much because you've grown out of what you used to love and having to read books of the moment because you're a bookstagrammer. I think you'd have more fun digging in to find your new taste, I went through that for a while and now I'm back to devouring books like it's nothing.
I totally understand the kind of love you have for Interview with the Vampire. This year I finally found my perfect cozy mystery series: the Agatha Raisin series by M. C. Beaton. Like Vampire, it is older and can be problematic in some areas, but something about it just works so well for me. I feel like it’s because she makes her characters feel like real people and you get that itch of curiosity about what will happen with these characters. But anyway, thank you for the recommendations. Adding them to my TBR right now lol
piranesi was by far my favorite read of the year, such a special story!! chain-gang all-stars was a close second though. both feel like required reading for me~ so so good
Here's to a better year! I just love everything you put out Hannah, I can't wait for what you have in store! This year my faves were The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro, the latter I think you might enjoy! It's one of his lesser knowns novels but it's SO touching and the themes are so deep and devastating and relevant to what's going on in the world currently. Best wishes to you and your loved ones! ❤
Mexican Gothic has been one of my all-time favorites for the past couple of years, and I'm so happy that you enjoyed it as much, I can never stop gushing about that book 😁
I read Funny Story and it was actually my first Emily Henry! Her books are hard to get a hold of if you don’t want to pay full price for them because they never go on sale and library waits are always months long. But I’m glad I read it because I loved it, similar to you it was the kind of thing where I was like, “actually I think this is more 4.5 than 5,” but it was such a good time. I definitely gotta get to Vita Nostra, my favorite genre of book is “I have no idea what’s going on.”
I don’t live in the US but every time I’ve been there I see at least one copy of her books at goodwill and it’s at like 2 dollars! If you’re from the us you could check there from time to time ✨
The vampire Lestat (book 2 in the Anne rice series) is one of my favourite vampire books of all time, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Thank you for recommending vita nostra earlier this year. It was life changing! I have never read a book that felt like it was literally bending my mind into directions I haven’t been before. I’ve got the sequel and am going to read it soon too.
I began my adventure with the vampire chronicles this year and I'm halfway through tale of the body thief now and I agree the vampire lestat is the best one so far (although I'm a big fan of the devil's minion chapter from qotd)
I read Piranesi 2 years ago and still I remember everything about this book because this left a lasting impression on my heart and it is my number 1 favourite book, no other book can top the chart. The writing style is just stunning. I am so happy to see my favorite book in your video!🥰
I'm looking forward to Piranesi, I've heard so much good about it. Interview with a Vampire is a series I read as a teen and highly recommend the whole series, long as it is. I plan to reread it in the future. Happy holidays and happy new year!
I loved the video. Also, I wanted to say that it is better to read 36 books that are enjoyable and give you a good experience than a lot of meaningless books. I'm not trying to sound rude, but I want you to feel great proud of your reading year. Let's keep reading good books in 2025! Happy holidays, Hannah :)
Based on your description of Vita Nostra I was like she HAS to read Piranesi, and I was ready to make a statement. When you put it on your list I got chills! 2 years after reading it and I feel the same way about it. Favorite book of all time!
I read Interview With The Vampire in the 90’s when I was late teens/early 20’s because I’m old now lol and I was obsessed…I went on to read The Vampire Lestat and loved him even more than Louis lol I think I stopped reading the series at Memnoch The Devil…I’m pretty sure this still stands as my favorite vampire series ever…one of these years I’m going to do a reread and finish the series as well….her writing is immersive and fascinating to me…I also read The Mayfair Witches trilogy and loved them as well…
Weird little knowledge drop. I've heard that apparently when you're younger you experience new things all the time and your brain pays attention to those things. Making it feel like time is longer. When we get older, and do the same things everyday, our brain doesn't find this as anything to pay attention to or learn from, so it seems like time is faster. It almost shuts down in the monotony of our everyday lives. That's why I love reading. I think it breaks up the monotony.
Im so excited that you're getting into iwtv because so am i ahahahah i started watching the show in september and had been sucked into the vampire chronicles world, if u love the first one, u'd love tvl even more!!
Unrelated to the video, but Hannah, I think you’d like Arcane. I get so many book recs for people who love Arcane for books that YOU recommended to me (i.e., Vicious, This is How You Lose a Time War, Fable for the End of the World, etc.)
You and Chloe are the only booktubers I still watch and adore!!! And I’ve watched booktube since 2018. I just think your content are so genuine, real and enjoyable all the time ❤
I agree Mexican gothic was such a great and atmospheric read, and a perfect entry point, it opened up horror as a genre for me, I used to think it wasn’t for me. I actually was not able to finish interview with the vampire because I found book Louis to be so unbearable 😅 I think I will just stick with the show Piranesi is definitely a priority read for me this year, I can’t wait to get to it! My own top two reads of 2024 were the will of the many (it really ticked all the boxes for everything I love in a fantasy and I was actively kicking myself for putting myself in a position where I have to wait like a year for the sequel) and on earth we‘re briefly gorgeous (reading this was like being repeatedly punched in the stomach and being grateful for it)
Hannah, whatever you want to share with us, whenever you feel like it, it will always be lovely but hopefully you never feel like it's an obligation that just adds to your burdens. I hope you keep prioritizing you, always.
I hope you will have a reading vlog for Heir, Hannah. I miss your reading vlogs. But I hope you enjoy the rest of 2024. I look forward to your videos next year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. ❤
You should try One Dark Window and Two Twisted Crowns duology by Rachel Gillig! It's a gothic high fantasy. The worldbuilding is super interesting especially their powers!
Please, do continue reading The Vampire Chronicles by Anne, they are all really deep character studies and in my opinion philosophical and existentialist in their own nature. I don't think any literary work has grasped the vampire myth in the same way these books have, Anne uses the characters' supernatural gifts to really dive into the human psyche... The Vampire Lestat is actually my favorite vampire novel ever, it's right up there with Dracula.
I'm really looking forward to you reading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke because it's very probably my favourite book in the entire world - I hope you'll like it as much as you did Piranesi!
Hi Hannah! Popping in to say you've become one of my favorite booktubers bc although we don't necessarily read the same books I think we share one brain cell about the things we like in the media we enjoy Keep on being you, you're just so perfect ❤❤❤
Great list! Funny Story almost made it to my top books of the year, so good. Piranesi is on my list of favorite books of the year too, it was amazing 😍 Mexican Gothic is great too! I don’t know if I could narrow it down to my top two haha but some top favorites from 2024 include Six of Crows, Beartown, Words of Radiance, Seven Days in June, and The Things We Cannot Say ❤️
you are describing magical realism (you are in a dream or hallucinating - that is the definition of a magical realism basically), I also loved Piranesi)
Anne Rice is my favorite author. I like Interview but the love I have for the rest of the books is so deep. Starting with TVL they are from Lestat's pov. Definitely give them a chance. I'm still heartbroken that his story is done, but Sam Reid and the show help that.
So excited to read Lady Macbeth soon! I’ve had several DNFs throughout the year, but also read 3 of my new all time favorites (and Ava Reid’s now a new favorite author)!
0:15 fun fact: as we get older, our perception of time speeds up! One year for a 20 year old is not a large percentage of their life in comparison to a 5 year old, so it feels like it goes quicker for adults. I can’t imagine how fast time will seem to fly when we’re like 80 years old lol
Three of the books on your list I own but haven't read yet. Hopefully I will get to them in 2025. I read Babel this year and loved it. Ordinary Monsters by J.M. Miro and The Witches of New York by Ami McKay were other favorites. Sending positive energy for 2025 to you.
I’m glad i have you as representation of big booktubers that don’t read 100+ books

My top 2 from this year were The Heart’s Invisible Furies and These Impossible Things. Honorable mention to my number 3 which was The Great Alone!
I hope you will have a reading vlog for Heir, Hannah. I miss your reading vlogs. But I hope you enjoy the rest of 2024. I look forward to your videos next year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. ❤
13:13 Mexicann gothicc, I’m reading that currently, it’s really good, it’s so eerie, the author’s writing is also not bad
I love your book journal. I’m buying my second one soon 😊
Hi Hannah!
Popping in to say you've become one of my favorite booktubers bc although we don't necessarily read the same books I think we share one brain cell about the things we like in the media we enjoy
Keep on being you, you're just so perfect ❤❤❤
I love wrap ups. I may have to check out fable for 2025. I like seeing my stats ☺️
when hannah drops a video, i drop everything and watch
i love your background shelf! i only read three books this year :(
It’s okay I only read 2 😊 but working on the 3rd.
Yess Fable. I want more big youtubers on Fable 😍
Always love watching your videos! Hope next year is less tougher and bring you more joy!
Happy birthday and Happy New Year in advance❤
