    Gripes and Tips... I know people who love their top loaders with impeller, this one and other brands. I didn't love this washer. Washes seem rough or wimpy. Rinses wimpy - hardly moves the items. After a bleach wash, using dispenser, bleach spots on next wash. Doesn't spin between wash and rinse, only drains. No happy medium with soap - either soap residue after done (when swished in clean water) or not evenly clean. Tried everything for 2 months to like it. Tech came to check it out. Operates "as designed." He's not a fan of impellers. Said, especially if you have dirtier clothes, front loaders work best, then top loaders with agitators - Speed Queen, if you can find one with all the availability issues going on. Their warranty is 25 years. This GE is going back, unfortunately with a hefty restock fee. We had a great LG front loader for years before this but don't have space for today's bigger front loaders (small ones are too small), so got an LG top loader with agitator and inverter direct drive (happy electrician husband). Love it so far! 2nd choice would have been Maytag but didn't have direct drive.
    General Tips: I've seen reviews in other places about machines misbehaving. I never leave home or go to bed with an appliance running! Learned that lesson when our dryer ran all night because the heater died and the sensor still sensed wet towels. You want to be around in case of leaks and such! Also, do the once a month minimum washer cleaning. If you get a front loader, dry the gasket (carefully so it doesn't tear) after your washes for the day are done, and leave the door open. Leave top loader lids open to dry. Wipe out the drum with a towel. Pull the drawer out over a wide container, shake it out, and sweep the water out from where it goes - this GE holds a lot of water under the drawer. Clean any build up off the drawer. Lastly, read the manual! I guess that's it - enough, right?

    I got this model, had it for 4 months and it’s going on it’s 3rd service call! Contacted GE customer service the representative told me if it’s unrepairable they will send me a new unit. Buy they way that will be the third one. The first didn’t work, the one I currently have is junk! I’ve decided if they deem it unrepairable I want my money back, I’ll go out and buy an LG! Hope yours continues to work properly for you!

    Hello thanks for a great review, I wanted to mention that the delay wash allows you to delay your wash. When setting it, you choose how many hours you would like delay the start of your wash. Then by continuously pressing Delay Wash by the amount of hours, you want your wash delayed. Then choose start. It’s a great feature if you want to wake up to a finished freshly washed load…or come home to one at a certain time.

    We bought this exact washing machine...DONT BUY THIS!!!. It does not do a great job washing clothe. You can’t wash large loads and expect to have them clean. The inside cylinder bangs hard against the sides and it’s very loud. No matter how you try to layer the clothe in to avoid this, it still happens. We bought the matching dryer. It works good, although I had to replace the board within the first year. That was $187.00. Then you have to program the board. If you want to buy the agitator, it’s a separate purchase. Hope the helps someone looking to buy this model.

    I’ve had this about 18 months. Hate it. I can’t fill it properly because the thing vibrates so badly it basically walks across my floor! The clothes hardly move so they’re never clean. I have to wash them 3-4 times. No thanks. Finally got fed up and it’s on the back patio and I just had my LG 8100 front loaders put in. At least I know gravity will move the laundry around enough that it’s getting clean.

    Got the same one, but it doesn’t clean as well as our old Agitator washing machine. Dark clothes & most items come out with detergent streaks and lint. Dog hair doesn’t drain out properly and some clothes come out dirtier, even if the hair wasn’t originally on them. And finally, the old machine got blood stains clean, but this new one I ended up having to hand wash scrub several items after a round in the machine, because blood was still on it. (Pre-treated Period, which most women will have to wash.) In which case, what is the point of a washing machine?

    I have this washer I am happy with it. I am only 5ft tall, so I gotta stand on my tippy toes to reach the bottom. I had an issue with hard water, since I got my new softener and filtration system, all is well. I only need a soda cap full of detergent for a large load of towels. I did have an issue with it being off balance, but my dad came and fixed it for me. My washer and dryer are on my main floor in the mudroom and I'm happy that this one is extremely quiet. I was shocked that the one in the video was so loud spinning, you can't hear mine. Every home is different though. I'd buy this one again.

    • @cnnw3929
      @cnnw3929 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The best way to run this machine, is to make sure you have just enough water to create the hydraulic pressure to rotate the load from the sides, to the center. You can run into balancing issues once in a while, so you may have to redistribute your load just before the spin. The lid doesn't lock during the wash cycle, and you can easily unlock it during the drain cycle, so you can intervene if you have to. For an impeller machine, this is a pretty good one compared to Whirlpool, Samsung, and LG's offerings. It didn't take long to learn how to use mine, but I wouldn't consider it a "beginner's washing machine". A front loader would probably be a better option for someone just starting out.

    I've had a similar model for 2 months. Everything seems to function fine mechanically, but I'm having so much trouble trying to figure out how much detergent to use so items are evenly cleaned and rinsed well. I use Tide (as GE recommends) Free & Gentle HE. The bottle guidelines seem too high, leaving detergent behind even after an extra rinse (which I always use). If I use much less, it needs a higher soil level selected, and even then it isn't always clean, meaning mainly underarm odor-free. I haven't found a happy medium.
    Also, the washes seem so rough and generate lots of lint in the dryer, even with the higher water selections. My older towels are all suddenly coming out with tattered edges, so I'm concerned about my clothes getting worn out too soon.
    Also, I wash some whites with bleach and, as usual, an extra rinse. Another wash right after one bleach wash came out with bleach spots!
    Also, bulky and waterproof items have to be pushed down because they keep floating up above the water level.
    I'm about ready to give up and return it. I had an LG front loader before this which eventually had problems we didn't want to keep fixing. My only complaint was the gasket drainage was designed poorly, so it turned black and needed bleaching, and waterproof items held water after spinning. Any advice is appreciated!

      People use too much. If you follow the instructions on the bottle you're using too much. They want to sell, sell, sell. Just us a small about. It is not the amount that cleans as much as it is the condition of you water hard or soft.

      The clothes rubbing together is what gets them clean as opposed to with an agitator which is what they would normally rub against. Depending on the cycle you choose it does different variants of clothes agitation.

    I have this exact Washer and Honestly I am frustrated. I have two boys that play hard. This Washer doesn't seem to do anything but just swish their clothes around. I don't see the agitator doing much. I like to see rigorous washing and this isn't doing it for me. I've heard of resetting by unplugging and waiting2 mins...etc. I will try that but I will be calling the Warranty soon for something to be done.

Even in hot water, extra fill, Tide pods....can pull out my husband's sock after a full wash and it's still stiff with ick and sweat. How can that be????

    I have this type with an agitator. It stops when it is time to agitate. If you put it on drain and sping, it goes through it, no problem. The bearing is comporised I can tell by its sound. The agitator was wobbly and I didn't like it. So I wanted to remove it but had a hard time. I ended up cutting it because it did not cooporate by locking it through the hole and turning clockwise.
    I then unbolted the bottom skirt and check it. It fits more or less good enough on the transmission shaft. Bolted it back on and then I placed the cap that goes on the agitator and it fit perfect.
    I turned the machine on. This time the agitator kicked in for a good 10 minutes and then it quit.
    Would a bad bearing effect agitation much more than spin on these machines?
    The error code was pointing to mode shifter, although I doubted it. But I replaced it nonetheless.

    I was hoping to find out if you can hear water sloshing when you move the tub around when it's empty. Some GE washers have a "balance ring" partially filled with salt water attached to the outside of the inner basket to help with unbalanced loads. I'm just not sure if the sound of the water in the ring should be heard, or what it should normally sound like because to me it sounds like standing water beneath the tub, and water does collect there, so could it be too much water collecting? Argh! ;) Tanks for the video!

      I would think it should still be under manufacturer warranty if purchased recently. I spoke with a GE rep today. She said for better cleaning, rinsing and less wear on items, to load things in imaginary quarters, folding them in zig zag fashion to fit their quarter. Stack each quarter rather than staggering the layers, and of course try to make the weight even all around for balance. Otherwise, they may get twisted up, inhibiting the cleaning, rinsing and balance. Also, check to make sure your machine is level side to side, front to back as that can affect balancing.

    I just got a similar model with knobs instead of the digital panel. I was wondering how long the spin cycle is supposed to last. I’ve done a few loads and it seems like it spins at high speed without ever wanting to end or slow down. I stop it manually when it gets around the 5-6 minute mark of high speed spinning (there’s never any remaining water). What is the normal length of time for the high speed spinning? I don’t know what normal is yet for these new washers. Thank you!

I have to use basket clean cycle once a week but, that does not take care of the residue. I only use a teaspoon of detergent and softener to avoid this type of build up but, does not make a difference. Also, the drawer is hard to clean and the drawer tray. I can no longer get it white. I'm a pretty decent "Fix-It-Guy", but this thing is a PERPETUALLY "PROBLEM CHILD".. Always a different issue, and no sooner do I get it "fixed" than another problem arises. Running out of PATIENCE with this, and it appears that the Circuit Board is another area of perpetual problems and issues. You can replace the CB for an outrageous price, but then it seems to me that you're just replacing your old piece of junk for a new piece of junk! My late Mom gave us the money to buy this shortly before she died. I am "psychological conflicted" as I don't want to feel as if I'm "disrespecting" my Mom, but my "head" is very tempted to send this over-priced, and under-performing piece of garbage to the junk heap where (imo) it belongs! Btw, I was "attracted" by the "10 Year Warranty" - - READ IT CAREFULLY!! - - This POC (imo) has essentially a ONE YEAR WARRANTY, with the ONLY thing having a 10 year warranty being the electric motor, and that is EXCLUSIVE of the labor to install it, so you're "ONE (year) and DONE" when it comes to coverage on this thing! NOTHING but one problem after another, after another, after another!! (I "went against my gut" in purchasing a GE product, having had so MANY poor experiences with their (lack of quality) in the past, but I let my emotions ("TEN YEAR WARRANTY!!") and my failure to perform "Due Diligence" re the absurdity and virtual uselessness of their "warranty" sway me into buying this thing. Even if you're a good "Fix-It Guy/Gal", you CAN'T "fix" a poor quality/poorly designed PCB! - Just my opinion and experiences fwiw...!!!!)

    I don’t have many good things to say about this washer. For starters it is a year old and is already messed up. My biggest issue is that the washer doesn’t wring out our clothes and constantly says it has balancing issues. When this happens it refills with water “wasting water” up to 3 fills, and then the clothes are soaked when the cycle ends. Also I can’t use the full capacity of this machine because it is so finicky. I can only load maybe a 4th of the way full.. smh I have to literally lay each piece of clothing out strategically, not covering the center and make sure heavy items are on bottom and balanced like a centrifuge. It takes like 5 minutes to load clothes in this manner and even still I get balancing issues and clothes soaked and washer not spinning them out. It’s maddening. The perk to having a smart “fancy” washer is to make your life easier right? Nope this one has gave me nothing but a headache. My recommendation to anyone looking to buy this, ***DON’T*** get another brand this one is trash. Also that 10 year warranty only covers the motor, not issues like mine so on top of paying for a new washer soon after purchase you will have to pay out of pocket for pricy repairs.

    • @erikg.2666
      @erikg.2666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This problem is NOT just a GE problem. All of the manufacturers that use this free floating tub design have this problem. Older machines using a solid suspension and tub brake did NOT have this issue! This issue is courtesy of enviro hippies in government who can't stop meddling in peoples lives with useless and unnecessary regulations! Governments have NO BUSINESS dictating how we wash clothes!

    I have this one. I came here to get tips on how to repair it. This along with the dryer absolutely suck!!! First the machine would make the loud noises when off balanced and then would stop working. Replacing the stabilizers. Now the unit is displaying a code for the HSO supply even though it has plenty of water going in. The dryer has a faulty door switch and continues to shut itself off not drying the clothes. Worse machines I ever bought. Don’t even get me started on the GE dishwasher. I will never buy GE again

    Everyone has told me that every washing machine has a lint trap. I have the same exact washing machine but my clothes come out covered in lint. I don't know what else to do to help the situation... it's driving me insane. Does this machine have a lint trap???!!!!!

      Not that I am aware of. From what I have seen HE washers don't have one.

    I have one as well the noise during the spin cycle is like a freight train really. The other morning the wash machine started on its own no delay cycle it just started it sounded like the pump motor was on. I pushed the start and power button at the same time it did stop after 2 mins not sure if I stopped it by my actions. I was ready to shut off the breaker . Any thoughts

      Generally if that happens I stop the washer and move some of the articles around in it to help fix the load.

    Has anyone figured out the balancing issue? Our washer came with the house. We did one load and all of our clothes were soaked. Won't spin. Keeps saying balancing. Tried another load and same thing. We did a bunch of trouble shooting, but I saw somewhere something about a balance ring? But, now I can't find it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
