you hit 30 on throttle look again. also going through the sand kills the battery. you probably could have got 40
@@DeeBatch I hit 31mph throttle only at 12:28. Not sure what part you are talking about. Yeah, I bet I could have gone farther as the sand test always kills the battery.
@@scotthardesty ahh i must have missed that part. I was talking about your ride on the lake. You had wind coming in but it did actually hit 30mph 25:45. Which was impressive going into the wind.
@@DeeBatch Ah. Yeah, that wind was brutal.
Cant believe u only have 7k subscribers, I really thought u would have had lie 500k. Youre so well spoken and really skilled at what youre doing. Great review, keep it up
Wow, thank you! I appreciate that!
Yes, I agree. Scott does a great job, and I hope the eBike companies start supporting him more.
It's because he lives in Chicago area.
Velotric has an amazing lineup
They do. Plus another surprise drop on the same day! Posting that video tonight.
@@scotthardesty Just checked their website. Velotric Fold? Looks like a great value option👀
Scott luv your work on e-bikes!
Thank you!
Good on ya helping the Dad. It's always a good feeling when you can help someone.
I did feel good!
This is a fantastic review! Well done, sir! I just bought me one!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you sir for this great review!
Greetings from the Netherlands
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great test with many details! Love how it can do over 20mph on throttle only!
Yeah. I am thrilled about that as well. This has pretty much become my favorite bike to ride in the city.
What a sweet bike path.
It is. Chicago has some amazing bike paths.
@@scotthardesty Sneakily one of America's most walkable cities. Maybe not so sneakily. Cool town.
Another great review Do plan on doing a face off between the Rambus and this one?
Of course. I want to put them both on a mtb trail together just to see if the Summit can keep up. I did put the Summit on an MTB trail and I am editing the video right now. It should be out in a couple of days.
Very cool, Mountain bikes are fun. Has lots of color.
I had to get the Orange!
@@scotthardesty Safer, people will see you.
I ordered the same bike, but in large size, two days ago, before seeing your video. I've come across a couple of fine videos about the Summit 1 (and plenty of poor ones), but yours perhaps has been the best. Good work! I have one question and one observation. Question: You say you are getting a new fork; which will it be? Observation: Does Chicago traffic law permit bike riders to race through stop signs? 😊
Actually, they do permit bike riders to go through stop signs, especially when there is no other traffic. I've seen some crazy dudes cruise thru stop signs but no way am I doing that. I only do it when it's safe. I did order a new fork as I blew out the stock one during the mtb test. So I ordered one that can handle my weight and the abuse I put on these bikes.
Awesome helping people. loved it. Was worried if you would make it or not on battery power.
I made it and helped a family have a good day. It was a win!
Well, done, Scott. Well done. I specifically looked up your video based on comments yesterday. I wonder when this bike is actually going to be available for purchase.
Its available now. Or it should be.
It is available at dealers. I test rode one 2 weeks ago at my local dealer. It was A LOT of fun. I am in the market for an e-mtb, but I want to see how this stacks up vs the Ramblas. In my heart of hearts, though, I want full suspension. The ride on the Summit, though, is awesome, and it can go fast and for a long way.
If you had to use a bike for everything would you choose this or the ramblas. I currently ride a bike that doesn’t have a throttle so not having one wouldn’t be that big of a deal for me. The ramblas I think is more powerful for getting up around hills and would have a better range but it’s not as fast as the summit.
I’m so torn lol
@@RichardHartnett-dp5tw you have the same issues as me. Each has their own strengths.
@@tonygiancoli9626 it is also available online as of today.
Looks real nice like their other bikes. Might have been interested if it was mid drive.
Maybe on version 2.
This seems like a better option for someone who isn't into hardcore mountain biking than the Aventon Ramblas. This has lockout forks, a throttle, is 50% faster and its $900 cheaper.
I agree. This is a bike more for trekking. I am putting together the video of me testing it a mtb trail.
@@scotthardesty Would LOVE to see that. I would try to find more "flowy" mtb trails and avoid the "rock gardens."
This is the 2nd best ebike imo I've seen you test. It would make a great backup to my Aventon Aventure2. I don't do trails, but roads here are frequently frost heaved, and I also have to steer around lots of pothole patches. The Velotric comes with a large frame, I'm 6'5", so that's a good match. My Aventon is also a large frame and rides great with 4" tires, but they do make it hard to ride (actually impossible at my age) without using pedal assist because of resistance. The slightly narrower tires on the Velotric Summit1 would be a benefit there.
Just quickly, how much would fenders and rear rack cost on top of the $1799?
$1937 is the total. They have a package for it. Mine just came in and I plan on doing a video showing how easy to install (I don't know how easy it is yet) and so people can see what it looks like with them on it.
@@scotthardesty great, thanks, I'll be looking forward to the video. That price is slightly less than I paid for the Aventure2, and throttle is limited on the Aventon.
Hoping to see the improved screen, head & tail lights (with turn signals please) , adjustable stem, throttle, and improved display on the next iteration of Velotrix T1 ST while keeping the weight under 38. :-)
I am too! I feel like this is the T1ST's big brother.
Hey Scot, have you ever tested the Favorite ST pro E bike?
Unfortunately, I have not.
Scott....did you discover if whether or not you can set the Summit wheelset up tubeless with tubeless compatible tires?
I just bought modifications for this bad boy. I want to do a comparison video with the Aventon Ramblas first before it goes in to the Shop. I ordered a new forks and different tires. Will do a video once I get it done. I still don't know if I can run tubeless yet.
Hey Scott has the summit been tested to iso 4210-10 like the lectric x-peak, witch means the frame, handlebars, stem assembly and suspension fork passed the emtb safety standard.
It is. I just checked the spec sheet. It shows it has the ISO 4210 certification.
@@scotthardesty awesome I was hoping so , thanks Scott I appreciate it, I believe I just found my first emtb excellent review as always.
@@corykayhoe1033 Glad to help! save some money with my code!
@@scotthardesty I definitely will.
Not my type of bike but excellent review all the same, I got the emtb full sus but used for road going aswell love the speed limit setting in the system all ebikes should have this! I'm in The UK were restricted at the moment to 15.5mph
Thanks for watching!
Not off to a great start on my Summit 1. Just assembled it today. Bent front rotor, and both PAS and throttle don't work. Took it to a shop to fix the rotor before I realized PAS and throttle don't work. Called Velotric and they're sending me a new rotor. Gotta wait until tomorrow to talk to them about PAS/Throttle. Was hoping to take this out camping over the holiday weekend, not looking like it's going to happen.
Oh man... that sucks. I am sure Velotric will get it fixed up for you.
Nice review. This bike is so-close but not-quite for me. The lack of a front sprocket chain guard and sub-par front forks is a deal breaker for me.
I totally understand.
Do you like this better than your Aventon Aventure 2. I'm trying to decide between those two.
I still feel like they are 2 different kind of bikes, but I have put over 100 miles on this Summit in a month.
Hi Scott. I am planning on getting a Summit 1. I need a riser for handle bars so that I can ride more comfortable. I got back issues. Can you or anyone else let me know the handle bar size and stem size? Even better if anyone has put a riser on this particular bike, can you let me know what product they used. I realize that the Discover 2 has one but it is not compatible with the Summit 1. I am getting the summit 1 because I will be doing a lot more riding in the woods here in Ohio. Also I live in a very hilly area. Scott I saw how you broke the front fork suspension doing jumps. Can you tell me what suspension forks can go on the summit 1 that can handle jumps?
I am not sure I would want to put an adjustable stem on this bike and then also do jumps with it, but here is the fork I bought for my Summit.
MARZOCCHI BOMBER Z2 27.5 E-OPTIMIZED
www.jensonusa.com/Marzocchi-Bomber-Z2-275-E-Optimized
This adjustable stem should work.
amzn.to/44BX4zy
is this the regular or large size frame coz on the website it shows a different frame for both sizes
Mine is the Regular
Why is the frame different on the bike in front of you compared to the ones seen in photos. The area where the seat stay meats the seat tube.
No clue. I know I have the real thing. maybe the photos you have seen are generated and not real. Also, the bikes you are looking at might be a different size. All I can tell you is, I have a real one.
So. Ramblas or this? I need one bike for everything and I really like both. This isn’t as nice with specs but for 800 I can mod it. If I am riding more on hills would I need the mid drive?
You are asking hard questions, thats for sure. I choose the Summit for commuting, as it has a throttle and 28mph. I recently did a mtb trail with this bike which will come out soon. You are correct in your thoughts that with the Summit, you can purchase upgrades (dropper seat post, front forks) and still have less money than you would with the Ramblas. But then again, as a commuter, it won't go near as far as the Ramblas because you can go faster.
As another comment mentioned, this bike is not a proper MTB where the Ramblas is. So if you want to commute and do some simple trails, this bike looks good. But for doing MTB, the Ramblas is what you should pick.
@@gargouilles777 I can’t argue with that. I agree. This would be a great trekking bike.
I'm buying regular size for my wife. She wants to do some exercise and will take battery help only during hills, or when going long rice with me so will use battery in eco and assist set to minimum speed. Going to buy a used bike for 1500 cad , guy used it for 50km so brand new. Any questions i will answer.
Sounds like you got a deal!
30:49 6 wheel zombie destroyer 😂
Yeah, that thing is insane.
Velotric Summit 1, or Aventon Ramblas? Which would you choose...and why?
I am going to do a comparison video soon. But here is the basics. Summit for the city. The throttle and ability to go up to 28mph makes this bike super convenient and fun. For the trails, the Ramblas all the way, the quality components and that mid drive make this bike a billy goat.
Chicago.. a world class City.
I love doing reviews here!
For crime and failed liberal policies, very world class at this. Its about to get worse too. They just agree to house thousands of illegals on the backs of tax payers. Have fun with that!
Do you prefer the summit 1 or the discover 2 iif you ride like in this video?
I do prefer the Summit 1 over the Discover 2. Although the D2 is super comfortable, this style of bike I just enjoy more. This has become my main bike right now.
@@scotthardesty I do too but not a fan of the taillight wired down thru the seat stem. Limits what you can do with seat post.
@@tbalt14 I have thought about that. I can change up the seat but if I change the seatpost, I love the rear tail light.
I wonder if Velotric will ever make a 1500 watt motor 60 volt system. If they did we'd have a three Velotric ebike home.
Give it a couple/few years.
Good review Scott. Aventon may have to worry as Ramblas being about a G more! I know you'll be comparing them on the trail. I would guess Ramblas being mid drive "should" perform better.
You are right Larry. I will be comparing the two. But of course the Ramblas will win as it has a mid drive and SRAM components. The question will be, can the Summit (which is 1k cheaper) hang with it.
@@scotthardestyand the Summit One has some advantages in terms of commuting versatility such as higher top speed, throttle, and optional fenders and rear rack.
@@iakona23 agreed
NEED FULL SUSPENSION!!!!
I love a good full suspension, but this is a solid hard tail. Maybe the next version.
I have an android phone, will the apple find my still work for me?
It will not.
That's what I was thinking. I think we can use apply find me through browser. Apple users use app. It's basically same as find my phone in samsung, so should be available through browser.
I am in the Chicago area, will you be selling this bike?
This has become my favorite to get around Chicago right now. I don't see me selling it soon. I might also be throwing upgrades on it since I enjoy it so much.
@@scotthardesty i actually like cadence sensors, do you feel that this bike is as responsive as a cadence on its highest setting?
@@jonpeterson4085 Since you live here in Chicago, let's meet up and I will let you ride it. Then you can decide yourself. Hit me up on IG.
@@scotthardesty Cool! never on IG, but I will create an account. I actually have a Gen 3 Flex, (company folded) always looking for new places to ride
What's the point of going 31 mph if the motor shuts down? I bought one of these bikes and if I go more than 1-2 minutes at full speed the motor completely shuts down. Useless!!! Also had battery issues- not reaching 100% and damage to the front wheel upon unpacking. Sending back for a refund.
Sorry to hear. I haven't had the same issues you have.
it broke pretty fast, Might no be A need.
They had me sent it back as the fork could have had an issue and they want to inspect it. Either way, I purchased an upgraded fork and waiting for it to come in.
This is a boomer dad bike if I've ever seen one. Great price.
I'm more of a Gen X dad.
MTB "STYLE" ebike, nobody is riding that thing where mountain bikes go, lets be honest. ALTUS come on. Im not hating on it being this style but really no comparison. I actually like it, but as a commuter. I wouldn't ride it on light gravel without a clutch derailleur.
I did test this bike on a mtb trail. That video will be coming soon. Velotric knows this bike is more for Trekking and single tracks that don't have jumps or drops. You would need to switch out the forks for things like that.
Seems you are clueless about riding adventures.
@@hasher10001 Ive been a fairly competitive ultra endurance cyclist for 2 decades. If you think an Altus rear derailleur is adequate for any off road use, I am not the one who is clueless. I put more miles on my analog bike in a month than most will put on their ebike in a year. WHen was the last time you rode the Great Divide or rode across the entire US self supported? I am pretty sure I know all about riding adventures compared to your average cyclist..lol.
@@WitchyKatz Why do so many cyclists snooty?
@@seanyboston I'm not snooty. I think that the modern Claris grouset or low end Deore on MTBs are great! I am the opposite of snob but I do have a reasonable standard for my components and Tourney/Altus is found on Walmart bikes not in bike shops for a reason.
I think what these ebike companies are doing is great. I just wish component wise they would just step it up ONE notch. Im not expecting Dura Ace but I am expecting decent and serviceable industry standard entry level and wish they would do that much. Especially on rear hub motor designs..I would love to be able to take one of these off the shelf and put my own components as upgrades, but you cannot do that when they are still using cartridge spindled BBs and freewheel type hubs.
The problem with y'alls reviews for all the same you know it should be more about pedal assist and how far you can go on a battery instead of how fast you can go using the thumb throttle is not a review. We want to see how far a bike can go on peda don't get likes and you don't get thumbs up for being a parent repeating what everybody's done done. Another word just videos no different than the others kind of useless really watch one watch them all. How fast they can deplete a battery because of thumb control
Hey champ. Sound like the perfect opportunity for you start doing reviews yourself covering the things you think we all lack. I don't want to be a a bike for 60 miles in PAS 1. Let me know when your review is done and I will be the first to watch it. Also, I pedaled this bike way more than I used the throttle.
HUB MOTORS SUCK
Thanks for watching.
I certainly prefer a quality mid drive to a hub drive but hubs have their place. A hub drive is much better suited for the casual rider who have little understanding of when/how to change gears. These types of bikes are marketed to casuals, not true cyclists, and they are great for that market.
@@Scomelbasses There's nothing wrong with being a "casual". Not everyone has the desire or time to dedicate to being a "true cyclist". For some riding is just one of many hobbies, or a good opportunity to get outdoors. No reason to be a gate keeper. Mid drive motors are also a lot more expensive.
@@seanyboston that was the point of my post, there's nothing wrong with hub drives or being a casual rider for whom hub drives are better suited than mid drives. My comment was toward the post that said hub drives suck. I prefer mid drives but like both.
