  • Had an issue with my Kenmore 80 Series Washing Machine not agitating. I found out through the internet that chances are that I needed a new coupler. Now just because my washing machine needed a new motor coupler doesn't mean that is the problem with yours. Below is a link to the part that I ordered. It was part number 285753A and it cost me around $7.00.

    Thanks for this. I'll be following along once Amazon delivers my coupler.

    Thank you for posting this video. I was able to follow everything step by step and fix it myself. Not bad for a 58 year old woman. The only part I needed help with was clipping the motor back on. My hands just didn’t have the strength to snap the clip on. I had to wait for my son to get home from work to do that part for me. The rest I was able to do alone! Thanks again

    Thank you! Just fixed my own washer by following your video in about 20 minutes. So helpful!

    Thanks @CheapJoker - Super easy to follow directions. Took me about 30 minutes to take everything apart and install the new part. Only challenge was aligning the motor when reconnecting everything. Otherwise, I'm proud of my accomplishment - not being a natural handyman. Saved a bunch of money - wife was telling me to just go out and buy a new dryer 😂

    ✨🧺✨thank you for this VERY informative video… I truly prefer a top loader… my man repaired the switch about a year ago and now he’s about to repair the agitator… my mom and grandmother bought the 80 series Kenmore washer & dryer for my first apartment over 20 years ago from sears and they both are still working… moving from apartment to apartment then into my home… I’m quite sure they are both smiling from heaven as I have kept them in mint condition✨🧺✨

    Many Thanks! Just took the motor off and sure enuf the coupling fell to the floor broken in half. Just ordered it via your Amzn link. I'm at 4:15 into your video and I'm all giddy thinking I can fix this myself instead of buying a new washer.

      Did you replace the coupling yourself?

    Thank you for this! I put the new coupler (2 plastic pieces embedded in rubber) in but I can't push the motor back into place far enough to attach the top clip. Do you think that I should take the coupler apart and put 1 plastic piece in first and gently pound the middle of it in place to be sure that it's not sticking out and then put the rubber piece on with the other plastic piece OR maybe we put the whole set in the wrong way OR the shaft of the motor is not inserted in the coupling (since it is not round for an easy shot)? Any suggestions?

      @cheapjoker3321  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say what may be causing the motor not to clip in. I would probably start checking to see if the plastic coupler is fully inserted into the rubber piece. Also check to make sure the coupler is fully on the axle all the way against the flat lip on the axle. If you think that the new parts are different in size I would definitely compare them to the old ones. Also may want to check to make sure that the motor isn't sitting on anything like any wires or debris. It may also just be where you have to just maneuver the motor into position just right. It can be awkward trying to hold the motor up while clipping it in.

      @@cheapjoker3321 Thank you for your reply. I was able to push the motor back in place after gently pounding 1 plastic piece of the coupler onto the shaft of the motor and doing the same with the other plastic piece onto the transmission. When both pastic pieces were flush and fitting snuggly, I inserted the rubber piece in the transmission, I then picked up the motor and maneuvered to insert the plastic piece into the holes of the rubber piece that was in place on the transmission.

    Instructions were great! I'm having trouble getting the coupling out that lies under the rubber part and that wasn't in the video... What do you do when that part of the coupling is stuck?

    • @cheapjoker3321
      @cheapjoker3321  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you referring to the three prong plastic piece that is on each side of the rubber piece? If one is stuck I would see if you can get a screw driver behind it and carefully pry it off the shaft.

    • @heatherann10880
      @heatherann10880 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cheapjoker3321 yes, the 3 prong plastic piece. The one that was attached to the motor was easily pried off with a screwdriver, but I can't get a screwdriver behind the other one... Thanks for your reply

    I followed all these steps and then when testing it was spinning and then slowed and it's now locked up again. Any ideas where i went wrong?

    • @cheapjoker3321
      @cheapjoker3321  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would check to make sure the coupling and the rubber portion isn’t damaged. Check to see if you have free movement with the motor axle. I would start there.

    • @jennellejobe9407
      @jennellejobe9407 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cheapjoker3321 i ordered a brand new one from Amazon and installed it and it spun just fine. I haven't taken it apart yet to see if it's broken again but I have to assume it is. what would be wrong next to cause it to break a brand new one as well? Something more serious?

    • @cheapjoker3321
      @cheapjoker3321  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nelle Jobe if they are broke again then I would definitely check the movement of the motor shaft (that coupling goes onto - both coupling ‘s) to see that is spinning freely. Inspect the shafts the coupling are on for rounded edges. Make sure that the edges are not rounded to much where it makes the coupling not spin with the shaft. Spin the coupling with your hand to see if there is any major resistance. That would cause the coupling to break.

      @Caleb Edwards thanks for answering... very frustrating when no one answers lol. Mine ended being a bad clutch. Bought the replacement kit off amazon for$20 and had it fixed up 2 days later. Good luck to you!

      @jennellejobe9407 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Caleb Edwards I did not break it again and I found out it was the clutch from a other TH-cam video. It did not spin freely.
