Until recently I dismissed the whole "your phone is spying on you" as paranoia. The other day I asked my neighbor about where she buys her firewood and she sent me a screen shot of the mom and pop suppliers contact information. Within a couple of hours I was getting targeted ads for woodstoves from Amazon... Thanks for the info Liron

I have a second number from Google Voice, which is free. I can make, or take, calls from my Android phone using either my cell phone number or my Google Voice number. Unfortunately, this procedure won't stop some robocalls. Most robocallers now don't use a database of specific numbers, but just dial every possible number in a block or area code. This way, they don't overlook any that are private or not in a database. So even if your phone number was NEVER used, it will be called by spammers.

So you are targeted because of your behaviour using Google, Facebook, Alexis, Google Net and so on. Analytics will be used to think what you might need in the future. People should be aware that porting your number to Google into a VOIP system will also mean that many other systems will not accept it as a means for you to verify security tokens on their respective service. Discord would be an example where a VOIP number cannot be used to verify an account. Google itself also is a data mining giant, so that's another thing to consider. I use Google Voice for a business phone number that's forwarded to my real phone, but I'd be hesitant about taking a real number and turning into VOIP, could cause more problems with verification and authorization across many services.

Remember when stores started to claw for your #?
"Would you like your receipt texted to you? Or printed? With the pitch of " surely you've lost a receipt. We want to make sure that doesn't happen to you again."🙄 The text to verify to sign up for a web site 🤨. Why not just ask for the phone number? To verify it's a person they say? Can I get a list of the site owners credentials before I decide if they are not crooks? 🐓

I give out my number both here and there, but it still doesn't show up in any google search. Maybe I should edit the number on the pages where I don't need it, but it's not uncommon that a site needs your number for 2-factor authentification. Paying 15 dollars a month for a second number? That's as much as I pay for my regular subscription, so that seems unnecessarily costly. I would rather not pay such amounts just to have a second number. It I really wanted to have a second number, I could get one much cheaper than that, but it's still unnecessary. Having even more numbers? No, please...one is plenty enough for me.

QUESTION: at video mark 7:00, you say you keep your original number, but NEVER USE IT! Does this mean I continue to pay a monthly subscription fee for that original number, but never use it??? Doesn't sound right. OR....., di you say that I will TRANSFER my existing number to Mint Mobile (and get rid of my current provider, right?) , and THEN set up one or two or more VOIP numbers that cost nothing on a monthly basis? Do I have that right? OR.... are you suggesting something else? Video could be more clear about all this. Also, how does one determine if one's phone has eSIM capability?

I keep my original number and transfer it to a voip provider. I used Google voice and paid once off $20. I use mint for my data to access all my Voip numbers. Literally said that if you watch a little bit more.
You can find if you phone is eSim compatible on mints website or Google your phone specs and look for eSim.
