    I stumbled across this video and found myself intrigued. I do fly 5 axis RC rotorcraft occasionally, but am not a proficient RC operator by comparison. I do however follow the same tasks on a daily basis on brand new fighter jets. I am a flight test mechanic that takes new aircraft from factory that have never been operated, and makes them ready for flight, including engine runs, flight control configuration, and all aircraft flight critical systems. It is pretty amazing how similar the process is although being considerably scaled down for RC aircraft, of course. This guy is the real deal for sure, and any customer involved in an aircraft delivery or purchase with him is in good hands, im certain. Very very cool!

    @thelightersideofrc , as a professional corporate pilot, I must say that is impressive to watch a professional rc pilot like yourself conduct proper ops checks and preflight. It really is incredible how much like a full size aircraft it all is. Well done and beautiful flying

    The full size A10's are bad ass and so are these RC versions. The one thing about these jets though, is you guys fly them out to they are a tiny black dot in the sky. That's ok if u have 20/20, but that is crazy to me. Guess if I had a jet like this, I'd somehow figure out how to put some FPV goggles on to fly it after takeoff and take them off for landing. But there's plenty of people making the entire flight on their much smaller RC jets wearing goggles. It looks like it would be more fun to fly these things that way also instead of watching a tiny black dot most of the time.

    As much as I love the speed and deafening roar of some of the large jets this A10 flies and sounds super scale. It really looked to be flying around like a big sport plane and really has a presence on the ground and in the air. Good job on the professional flight test program and successful re-maiden

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Daryll! Very fitting comment! One of the people there said that it looks like it needs more engine. Because of the size of the plane and all the items providing resistance I don't think larger engines would add any speed. It was fun to fly with the setup it had. Lots of power and can cruise around at 1/2 stick no problem. Thanks for watching!

      @@thelightersideofrc I watched your A-10 and it's flight characteristics throughout all of your flights, and mentally compared them to what I've seen to real A-10 air show and practice performances. Your bird looks and performs (mostly because of the pilot!) VERY much like the real deal! Does it need more engine? Nahhhh.... unless you plan on hanging a full load of 'ordinance' under the wings, and that would reduce speed because of the increased air resistance. Many people don't realize that the real Thunderbolt II has a max air speed of 420mph. This plane survives in combat not because of it's high speed, but because of it's agility, toughness, and it's ability to inflict a very bad day for it's opponents on the ground. You've got a great RC aircraft, and the skills to fly it well. Kudos, enjoy, and I wish I was your neighbor! 😛😛😛😛😛

    Hi Jonathan,
    The A-10 looks, sounds, and flies very realistic. The icing on the cake would be a sound system with a recording of the GAU-8 firing. How about that as a suggestion for the A-10 under construction. I think that would be a unique addition. You and Katie stay safe.

    If you take a bottle of air soft bb’s, drill a hole in the lid and seal off a tube that the bb’s will fit thru with the tube protruding inside of the bottle close to the bottom of the bottle with the other end as the gun barrel Then use an air solenoid or mechanical servo activated valve connected to a C02 bottle, cartridge that blows into the bottle from any angle. It shoots as fast as a Gatling gun, sub sonic of coarse but you should try it it’s quite simple and remarkable.

    Total rc fixed wing newbie kinda question, how do you know when to rotate from your take-off roll? In full scale you're watching your Vr, what do you use in rc? Or is it just experience with feathering the elev input till you're airborne?

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! Once up to a reasonable speed you can start to add Elev slowly. Some planes like to jump off the runway so you sometimes have to get them off and then calm down your stick.

  • @Bluesmurfpilot
    @Bluesmurfpilot 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Also curious, since you're neither sitting in the rc aircraft to see the runway, er grassway center line, or standing on the centerline, is it just experience over time that you develope spacial awareness for being off centered when lining up for a landing? I guess just practicing lowerish flybys would help🤔.

    If your gear check flyby has a failure, do you have an emergency crew standing by with a mini vehicle to drive out along the runway to then land on?? 🤔😏

    Maybe a silly question, does the fan blades in the cowlings actually do anything for the turbines or is it purely cosmetic?

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not silly at all! Primarily cosmetic but when the engines are cooling all you need to do is keep the fans moving and they will keep pushing air through

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pretty straight forward. If client asks me to fly their plane then they assume the responsibility of what happens. In the case of this A10, he wanted me to fly it and get it all setup which it now is.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great Question. Depending on where your antenna's are, there is the possibility that in some orientations the signal will be blanked out. Range check with engine running and all 4 directions and you will get your best test. From experience I have had some aircraft turbines shut off (go into failsafe) while doing this. If it happens you need to re adjust the receivers/antenna.

      @@thelightersideofrc once you try it, you will be hooked. You should look into the DJI HD goggles. It would be very simple to add a video transmitter and camera to your plane. at least for passenger ride-alongs. They run off of any clean 9 to 16 volt Source, have 3 to 5 Miles of range, and won't interfere with your control signal. They are a little pricey, but the image is stunning. You will wonder how you ever did without it before.
      (Edit) go digital HD, not analog. You will thank me later.
