- It's that time of the year when the water is warming up and the fish start to feed up for spawning. The fish in small river are usually very dormant during the winter but can be very aggressive during spring. I went to search for smallmouth bass in a few different sections of the ocoee river in search of hungry bass.

This. Right here. Small river smallmouth fishing. It will forever be my favorite way to fish.
Those rock structures are amazing and that water was so clear. Beautiful video Sir! Got my first Rock Bass out of a creek this morning.
The thrill of seeing them eat it is like nothing else
i forget just how pretty that area really is when the water is up and flowing so hard during the rafting season... But when the water is low and you can see all those pools, and the structure of the river; its a master piece of the lords creation. And then you have the amazing wild life, and the incredible fishing ; like we just witnessed and you are overwhelmed. Praise God for the many gifts we have and let us never take them for granted. Cool! We were just there this past weekend, camping (and fishing) at Parksville Lake CG. Caught my first 2 spotted bass (fishing newbie at 39 y/o).
I can not say it too many times....you have the most perfectly beautiful places to fish as anywhere in the world! Thank you for helping a lot of us that either have no good place to fish or still stuck in winter....or both!!

Nice productive outing, love the sight fishing bites. Gets the adrenaline pumping. My best topwater smally came across 25 yards of river in clear water to slam my popper. Jig bites are just as much fun. Thanks for sharing with us brother John.
Would love to have a few of those smallies also some of those b-u-t-ful rocks. I love the dappling water made. I believe this is one of the best-looking rivers you have fished. Very nice!! Suggestion: Take your needle nose and bear down on the hook barbs. They'll usually break off. Much easier to get the hook out when barbless. You won't lose as you always keep tight lines!

The only thing about fishing clear water like that, is that you should keep a low profile. If the Fish can see you, they may not bite. But-If you sit down on the bank, or possibly a spot near the bank, but behind a clump of bushes or tall grass, you should catch more fish. Just a helpful hint.

I love the Ocoee river, if that is how you spell it, it is awesome for hiking, fishing and just hanging out. They intermittent openings for that you can picnic and enjoy.

I love when you fish these mountain rivers, reminds me of the time I went to Oconee county South Carolina. They had some beautiful spots like this, smallmouth everywhere.

John-You may already know this, but in clear water such as this, try using Low Visibility Fishing Line. Stren makes what they call Lo-Vis Line, and it's available in any line weight that you need.

ive caught redfish and largemouth with those kinds of deformations. Not sure why it happens, but the fish seem unaffected by it, still able to feed and fight like they should. couldn't tell a difference in take, fight and all that until they come out of the water and you get a good look at them.

John, have you ever rigged any craws or hellgrammites backwards to normal rigging and let them glide differently through the water. Gonna start trying this some myself.
You have so many schooling fish you may have to throw an umbrella rig and catch 3 smallies at a time!
Have you tried the Zoom Lil Critters (craw looking baits) or ultra vibe speed craws? Or the zman craws, and strike kings ned bugs? They work great up here in KY.
Deffently eggs I came across the same thing just the other day, probably seen 20 or more was really cool 🤙🏼
