- A little report on my recent visit to England, news of the textile art group of which I am a member and our upcoming exhibition Unfolding Stories 6 at the Three Storeys Gallery in Nailsworth Gloucestershire from 30 April to 12 May 2024. I will be in the gallery on Friday 10th and Sunday 12th May if you can come and say hello it will be lovely to see you.
I also share a video tour of my friend Maria Harryman's current exhibition of textiles and printmaking inspired by seasonal plants, at the West Berkshire Museum in Newbury, Berkshire, UK until the 14th April 2024

Such a thrill to be taken along with you to Maria Harryman’s exhibit. A diary of the months and seasons in drawings, prints, and the log cabin quilt. And your treasures. I was concerned not to see new scissors. Hope you found some. I’ve been enjoying reading about the textiles at the Salisbury Museum. The greatcoat! Thank you dear Kathryn. xo
Thank you Janet, I forgot about new scissors, I will get some in May when I go back ❤️
Sounds like you had a wonderful time in England, and came back felling refreshed, and hopefully full of new ideas. It is lovely to see Fred free and never feel the need to apologize for him. I think most of us here are just as interested in seeing him, the other furry members of your family and to hear what you have been doing as we are in the stitching. Looking forward to the nest stitch week and thanks for sharing your trip with us
Thank you Christine, I am thinking of teaching Fredfred to stitch then he can make some videos of his own, I am sure he would soon have more subscribers than me 😂❤️
Thank you for sharing all the treasures found and the latest news ! I am so fond of Maria's work, the lino cut prints are gorgeous and the quilt is absolutly amazing ! It brings me so much joy and inspiration to see both of your "work", thank you so much K3n for sharing it ! 🤎
You are so welcome! 🤗
Congratulations to the 3rd Leg of the joint chair🌷I enjoyed seeing the exhibition displays and the goodies you brought back home. 🌷🌷🌷
Thank you Meridel ♥️
Oh I'm so envious of the treasures you've brought back. Especially the books. I have The Pocket on my wish list as I love the 18th century. Thanks for sharing details of the trip. ❤️
@@jacquelinestrand6283 I read the introduction and the first chapter last night and it's so interesting ❤️
Thank you for taking us along and congratulations on being part chair, thoroughly enjoyable video :)

Thank you Jeanette ☺️
Thank you for sharing your trip to England with us all ❤️
Thank you for sharing Maria's work. It is lovely. Oh and congrats on your co-chair appointment. Hi Fred Fred (so cute).
That log cabin quilt is exquisite! She is channeling Holden! Thank you so much for sharing her work!
My pleasure, she is a wonderful artist, I am privileged to know her ❤️
II wish Maria much success for her exhibition, I wish I was. In UK it looks wonderful.
You have a truly charmed life. Thanks for sharing. Fredfred is so handsome!
Oh and he knows it 😂
@@k3n.clothtalesHe also seems to be a very happy French cat with his volumes of ennui!
Oh my, what beautiful work! Love the Lino printing and her poetry and paintings. Really lovely. And the quilt is fantastic. Congratulations on your appointment to chair👏👏👏 Thank you for sharing this Kathryn.
You are so welcome and thank you ☺️
Fabulous. What a great haul of goodies. And what breathtaking work by Maria. How beautiful. I’m sure you’ll love the book about the history of pockets. I certainly did. Shame that the fashion industry decreed our female silhouettes should not be spoiled and thus removed pockets from much of women’s clothing. Thankfully TH-cam has some great videos on putting pockets back in!! Thank you as ever for another wonderful video. Always a great source of inspiration ❤🙏
I am giving a lot of thought to the politics of pockets, I add them to my skirts or wear a homemade pinny with pockets in. One of my pieces in our upcoming exhibition is a pinny with 13 pockets. 😁❤️
@@k3n.clothtales Wow … a 13-pocket pinny. Brilliant. 🙌
Maria's work is lovely. Thanks for sharing 😊
I think Fred Fred should be called Thread Thread 🧵 xx😊
😂 brilliant ❤️
Thank you for taking us along on your trip to England. 💖💖💖
My pleasure 😊
In awe of Maria’s work
She is indeed very talented 😊
Such lovely treasures in this video. Thankyou for sharing. X
Thank you, andWonderful tour. Also, congrats on being one of the legs of the chair. ( Lucky chair ). 😊👍
Thank you 😊
Maria’s exhibition looks fabulous, that quilt, WOW, thank you for sharing with us. You will love The Pocket book you bought, I have it too, you found some lovely treasures
I am two chapters in and really enjoying it 😊
Sounds like you had a wonderful time! I'm so happy for you! Maria's work is stunning...thanks for sharing it! Congrats on your Chair position!
Thank you Michelle ❤️
TFS everything! Sounds like a fabulous time
So lovely. Thank you Kathryn...
Maria’s quilt is remarkable. Thank you for taking us to see it.
My pleasure 😊
Congratulations on your co-chair position! This is the first time I've seen Fred Fred. He's quite a handsome looking kitty. Thank you for sharing all of your exciting and wonderful endeavors while you were in England. It is quite a treat to see culture in another country. Hugs ❤
My pleasure, if you want to see more of Fredfred, there is a little video of him wrestling with Stella (my little dog) at the end of my studio tour video 😉😁❤️
Thank you for sharing your visits and travels while you were over here in England. Maria's log cabin quilt is so beautiful as are the other works on display. Congratulations on your co-chair position I'm sure you'll bring your originality and talents to the benefit of all. I'm in the process of getting together my materials to make a meditation scroll which I'm really looking forward to starting. Thank you again for your lovely videos which have given me so much joy and sense of achievement. ❤
My pleasure Rita, enjoy making your scroll ❤️
love all the items shown. great books thank you
Congratulations on sharing the joint chair spot, the exhibition was excellent and inspiring, it was lovely to see your found treasures as well. Kind regards Marg.😊
Thank you very much! ☺️
The richness you bring into my world seems to know no bounds! I so enjoyed seeing bits of your travels and love how fully you celebrated the glorious Fred Fred, your exciting co-chair ing news and Chrissy's stunning exhibition! I really loved seeing all of the pieces and clever display of workbook, tools and research. Truly beautiful work!
The goodies you collected are just gorgeous and I can't wait to see them work their way into future k3n creations.
Thank you so much for sharing the creative love... Again! You are such a constant and welcome inspiration ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words ☺️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful, thank you for showing the exhibits.
Thank you, thank you. You had a perfect time for an artist. I must say, it really struck me how playful English/British craftspeople are with their work. My English/Canadian grandmother was also creatively inventive in all she did, mostly out of frugal necessity but it carried throughout our family as a matter of pride and sensibility. Fredfred is a handsome fellow and knows he is of great importance.
My pleasure, and thank you from myself and Fredfred 😁♥️
Thanks for taking us along. What a thoughtfully curated haul of goodies you brought home! The exhibition was inspiring as well.
Wonderful tour! Thank you so much for sharing your tips to England.
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
Thank you for sharing your trip. The exhibition was wonderful. I loved the paintings and especially that gorgeous quilt!
Always so good to see where Fred Fred hair actually comes from! I sound like a broken record when i say thank you so much for all your inspiring videos and stories (but yes: thank you!!). And wow to Maria Harryman (thanks for that as well). Curtsy, Machteld😀💖🍀
I don't mind a broken record, especially with the curtsy. 😂 Thank YOU Machteld for your support ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing your friend's exhibition. Living in New Zealand, I would never have seen it otherwise. I loved it all. A very talented lady.
Playing catch-up as I recover from my knee replacement surgery. So far I’m managing my exercises but I’m still too tired to sew just yet. Busy falling asleep and watching videos including yours. Thank you for posting them ❤❤❤
My pleasure Lucy, wishing you a speedy recovery ❤️
Thankyou for sharing your trip to u.k. Enjoyed it so much
It seems cats and cameras must go together! Fredfred here, and there was Norma on The Last Homely House. I love it!!!
I really enjoyed the exhibition. Thanks for sharing. The doll's dress has me thinking...
It's ingenious isn't it? I am really keen to make myself one. I might look ridiculous in it but do I care? 😂
I'm thinking of making doll=size slow stitched dresses and hanging them on a "clothes line". Could also put them into a book? @@k3n.clothtales
Thanks for the pre-show treat of the exhibition. Looks so interesting! Congratulations on your co-chair post! Very nice!🙇♀️
You also mentioned mending / repairing of clothing. Is that an upcoming exhibition? That would be a must-see.
Hello Fred-Fred! Lovely to see you. Thanks for showing us your good ‘finds’; books on dolls & pockets are interesting.
🌷tess
Hello Tess, the clothing exhibition is on at the Salisbury museum, there's a link to their website in the description box ❤️
@@k3n.clothtales thank you.
How beautiful! How interesting and unusual!Thank you so much!
Love Fred Fred… thankyou for inspiring work!
Beautiful exhibition - thanks for sharing. Look forward to seeing yours!
Hi Tracy 😊
Love Fredfred❤
I will tell him you said so 😁❤️
Thank you for sharing . Sounds like a fun time with friends
My pleasure, it was lovely ❤️
Thanks for thinking of us on your trip, Kathryn. I do like the look of that book about pockets -- will have to get hold of a copy.
I have only been flicking through but it looks really interesting so I am looking forward to reading it properly. 😁❤️
Thank you for a delightful video. I love artists sketch books. The scroll is so beautiful your videos are a delight.
Thank you 😊
A hand stitched pocket would be a wonderful addition to our journals.
Yes I think we will do that ☺️
Oh what a joy to find that necklace, I had found one with a few of those flat beads. It was wonderful. I have not noticed another one. Love the misc button selections. Love the books. I always love the pictures in the old books. So glad to see you had a wonderful time.
Thank you Michelle 😊
Thank you very enjoyable !
Thank you so much. Very enjoyable. Our last trip home we stayed in Mere. Visited Salisbury and climbed Gold Hill. Loved the tour . I have a large coffee jar of buttons and colour coordinated them for easy access. Many inherited from my mothers tin. Though I have always removed buttons before throwing old clothes. I now no longer throw anything as you have taught me well. Love love love listening to you and learning something new each week. Funnily enough I was handed three dolly’s to dress for gifts to children in hospital. Two I knitted outfits including scarf and beret the third is sitting in her underwear awaiting inspiration from me. As I now have so many material scraps. Wishing you good health. Xx
Hello Moira, I am sure the third dolly will have a lovely outfit soon, what a wonderful thing for you to do. Lots of love ❤️
Congratulations on your sharedchairship; and other adventures. Its a clear night in kielder tonight so great to see the stars so bright. We'll done for getting there and back to England and videos going out on time. Most u-tubers just disappear then pop-up when they get back. Much appreciated, clocks forward this Saturday so no slacking when we get back.xx😊
Give my love to Kielder, we had a family holiday at the wild Northumbrian camp site a few years ago, it's beautiful up there. Pleased you have a clear night, it's chucking it down here 😁❤️
So nice ❤❤❤ yummy food and drinks 🌹🌹 hugs to Fredfred and you
Same to you ❤️
Thank you Kathryn for your video and sharing with us this amazing exhibition. Congratulations on being part of a three legged chair. Lovely food and company and a bit of goodies bought for your collections, who could ask for more. I am sure you will enjoy the pocket . I had no idea that as women of yesteryear our clothes had no pockets as our male counterparts did. Inequalities I knew about but, a pocket ?. I am learning so much on my course. Lovely to see puss up close.
Thank you Carol, more to come on the subject of pockets, it has really captured my imagination ♥️
What a f un trip.... Perhaps we will see a version of Maria's quilt on Wonky Wednssday. Thank you for sharing, and congratulations on becoming a co-chair of your group.
Thank you Barbara, I don't think I have Maria's skills but we could maybe be inspired by her idea of using an image in the centre 😊❤️
Thanks for that little tour! Hi, Fred Fred. 😊
Hello says hello back 😁❤️
@@k3n.clothtales :-) Do you suppose we might make a little pocket sometime, for the weekly project? I'm intrigued by your Pocket book.
The visit to Maria s exhibition was wonderful. I appreciated seeing her work as I would not be able to visit the gallery to see it and I m sorry I can t come to see your own and colleagues’ exhibition at Nailworth this time. I hope there will be other exhibitions to see over time…lovely that you ve become part of a tripod for your quilting group! Thank you for sharing your experiences and your buys, finds and bargains I did enjoy that very much and I am looking forward to finding out how the pattern you drafted for a dress works out…💗
So pleased you liked it, I will definitely share when I get round to playing with the dolly dress pattern. 😁❤️
Loved this vlog and the Fred-Fred cameo!
Fredfred says thank you 😊😊
That was a really interesting video Kathryn. Fred Fred's lovely. I had a cat, well two infact, that were very similar. Loved the exhibition and especially the log cabin quilt. I also liked the tryptic's. Thank you for sharing. X
Thank you Helen 😊
Thank you for sharing your visit.
What beautiful work! Thank you for letting me come along!
Congratulations.
Wow that log cabin is amazing.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful video. I am currently reading 'Sewing Rolls, Needle Rolls and Huswifs' by Dawn Cook Ronningen, in which she mentions tie-on pockets. No patterns, but so many beautiful photos. It looks like I may 'need' to buy the book on pockets next! I love the history. You need to model your new dress when it's finished. 😊 Congratulations on your chair appointment!
Thank you Linda, that sounds like another book I need to check out 😄
The floof is not happy you disturbed his snoozing, you should be ashamed 🤭. Cat Tail/Bum in face is allegedly a sign of love.... cats are clearly weird and twisted. ❤
Would love to meet you in person, as I am sure lots of us would.
Your adventures look fun xxx
Cats are definitely weird and twisted, but we love them anyway 😂❤️
❤Thanks for sharing!
I have the doll book, and have made a few of the costumes in there. They are lovely!
Oh how wonderful that you have the same book ❤️
You are so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your journey with us 🪡🧵♥️
My pleasure and thank you 😊
Loved seeing Fred Fred after hearing so much about him. Thank you for sharing this video. The quilt your friend made is wonderful and I loved her paintings. Would have loved to see your artwork at the exhibition, it’s a bit far from home for me but maybe you can share some photos. Love, Tineke
I am hoping to make a little video tour of the exhibition to share ♥️
Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks so much for sharing this! I’m realizing how we (in the US, anyway) got the term “pocket book” meaning a purse.😊
Yes, I hadn't thought of that, thank you. I have been reading the book this evening and it's really interesting. ♥️
Soo beautiful!
Thank you very much ❤
That sounds like a great project.
Thanks for sharing!
Wow, that log cabin quilt is absolutely fabulous! I wish I could see it in person! I loved all the stitched words, because I do love to stitch words.
I used to make dresses for my dolls (I still have dolls and stuffed animals 🧸 😆), wonky dresses, of course, so if you make a dress for yourself, please, show us 😉
Well, I couldn’t finish this without saying how nice it was to see my friend Fredfred. He has the most beautiful eyes!
I loved to have seen everything you bought, thanks for sharing it with us 🩵💜💚🩷🤍♥️🧡🤎💛💙
I have been looking for your comment, I knew you would like to see Fredfred. 😁 If (when) I make a dress, I promise I will show it even if it's awful 😂❤️
@@k3n.clothtales ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
So, so lovely! I can feel your inspiration from here....Congratulations on your appointment as co-chair. What a wonderful community to be part of and thank you for sharing with us.
Thank you Candace 😊
What a treat! Thank you for sharing, Kathryn. Glad you had such a wonderful time.
Gorgeous work. The Log Cabin is my favorite. I looked up CQWest online. Love fiber arts. Happy Easter Day ❤ I’m in NY but someday I will visit England hopefully during an art show. Beautiful scroll. I also make doll clothes for my granddaughters. I’m a curry fan too. Thank you for the tour and Fred Fred.
My pleasure and thank you ♥️
The Pocket is a wonderful book, I know you’ll enjoy it.
I am so looking forward to reading it ☺️
Loved the trip and haul. I would love to come to England but never going to happen 😢 so glad you had a fun time. Hugs
Thank you 😊
I think Fredfred was doing his version of curtsying 😆 congrats on the new co-leg-chairship. Thank you for sharing your travels and exhibitions. Cheers, Christine
It would be nice to think so 😂 but he has no respect for me whatsoever, thank you and love 'co-leg-chairship' 😊❤
So very happy to see 'storeys' on the Unfolding Stories leaflet! At last - I thought the correct spelling was lost forever!
Maria's work is wonderful. Those lush, fresh greens really sing and the plant prints are so delicate.
I curtsey to you as 1/3rd of a chair (congratulations) but you also won more TH-camr points with your first haul! Lovely treasures 💟
Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to your first doll/k3n dress reveal. A Victorian doll/pojagi mashup?
Mary x
Thank you Mary, Victorian doll/pojagi would be a fascinating mix of styles wouldn't it? 😁❤️
That was lovely. Exhibition was a treat. Congratulations on the co- chair! Hope to see you in Nailsworth. There are some lovely examples of huswifs in the Pockets book - it's a fascinating read x
My pleasure, would be lovely to see you in Nailsworth, I spotted some huswifs when I was flicking through, so looking forward to reading it. ❤️
I have The Pocket book on my end table. Every time I glance at it I wonder if you know of it. I thought it might be right up your alley. The stitching in the photos is inspiring! Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
I am so looking forward to reading it 😊
What a lovely exhibition and I adored your goodies you bought. I was looking in a brocante/ vide grenier market when we first got here just over 24 years ago. There was a pretty tin but when I picked it up it was full of buttons. Treasure❤ I gave most my SIL Mary. I have the Pocket book too. Mary bought it for me. When I was reading it I realised that what I thought was a peg bag was in fact a pocket. It had been left behind in a house we had just moved in to. Aaarggh. I threw it out😫😫😫😫😫
Oh no 🤭❤️
PS I am working on a prototype for a video to make one, perhaps you can make one for yourself ❤️
I love the pocket book. Cant seem to find it here in South Africa. Love all your little finds and the exhibition was amazing
I am sorry you can't find it , have you tried Abebooks? Although I think they are a subsidiary of Amazon anyway. 😔❤️
Just returned from Ireland and Scotland and found your video! There is a YT channel called Bernadette Banner and she hand sews historical dress, etc. She made ones of those pockets and discusses its history. She also wears those historical clothing items she makes and they are beautiful. I thought you might find that interesting. Thank you for filming Maria's items.
Thank you so much, I will look her up ♥️
Congratulations K3n! They are surely blessed to have your talents and service ❤
Struggling to sleep with head cold, so delighted to find this bonus video full of snippets and news. Living rurally I do so miss exhibitions so thank you for filming Maria’s wonderful work. Love her pen portraits. Ooo that old book was a real gift. My grandmother always refused to buy me clothes without pockets, no matter much I loved them, and now I find that I cannot abide to be dressed without at least one pocket. My gardening dungarees are my absolute favourites as they have a total of five pockets, including the front pouch.
I am sorry, I hope you feel better soon , I have started reading the pockets book and it's great ❤️
Oh how beautiful. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Inspiration everywhere.
Congrats on being joint chair! Thanks for sharing your trip and the lovely exhibition. I also like Crabbys Gingerbeer, we can get it in Canada at the liquor store and at the off restaurant/bar!
Oh that's good to know about the Crabbies if ever I get back to Canada. I can't find it here in France ❤️
This is great 😊
Thank you for sharing your trip to England and lovely to see FredFred, my dad’s name was Fred ,so I always give a little smile when you mention FredFred. Such great things you bought ❤
My pleasure Carol, Fred was also the name of my Aunty Lily's first husband, though my cat is called Fred because my old cat was called Barney... But one Fred didn't seem substantial enough for him so we doubled it to Fredfred. 😁❤️
What a wonderful surprise when I got up this morning. I enjoyed you England visit very much. Now I am thinking I want to come to your exhibit in May. How can I convince my husband to travel from South Texas to England. Help with ideas everyone.
We need a matter transfer thingy like in Star Trek, beam me up k3n 😁❤️
thank you for sharing Maria's work. Wonderful lino prints on fabric
Just catching up on here at last. The exhibition looks lovely. Very inspiring. I couldn't possibly take that lovely old book apart though and I have the old doll dressing book since I was a child. You'll not believe that I have just put a handmade wooden button on my latest make! Also I wear a pocket like those in your book with my divided waist skirts. It holds quite a bit as I made it in just the same shape. It's on a piece of soft cotton tape which ties around my waist and is so comfy to wear. My hand just goes through the split in the side seam and straight into it. I'm pleased you had a nice time whilst you were here...Indian takeaway and all!
I am thinking of remaking the book somehow, whilst keeping the essence of it intact. I will give it some thought. I have already started making a pocket 😁 looking forward to watching your video tomorrow ❤️
Thanks Katherine. I love that natural pocket in your new book. Would you consider doing a tutorial on one, with the slow stitching method. 🙋🏼♀️🇦🇺
I am working on a prototype right now 😁♥️
What a wonderful video … thank you for sharing Maria’s amazing art !
I’m going to be in England then so hopefully will come and see you and your exhibition!! Very exciting x
Oh that's wonderful, and that you are from Salisbury 😁❤️
