  • What are the pros and cons of staying loyal to a cruise line? I explore the best and worst things to being cruise line loyal. Most cruise lines have a cruise loyalty program where you can build up tours and benefits based on the number of nights you cruise with them. But, is it really worth building up status on a cruise line, or are the perks and loyalty benefits not worth it? I explore the 2 worst things and the 6 best things, where the downsides could out-weight the upsides.

    We were very loyal to Celebrity, often paying a premium because we enjoyed their ships and food, but we have found the loyalty only works 1 way as they do not seem to care once you have put in your deposit.

    Picking the right cruise line is far more important than earning loyalty points. However I do like the perks that comes with staying with the same cruise line. What I have done is to select a line that offers the type of cruising and ship amenities that suit me. They are my first choice if they offer the itinerary I want. If not, I choose another line that does.

    Yeah I learned a long time ago to not chase loyalty points. I've found most of the programs do not really offer me anything of REAL value until I get VERY high in the program and I don't cruise enough to ever get there. It's best to look for the itinerary I want for the best price.

      Could not agree more, the wife and I are both at least platinum (or the equivalent) on all the Carnival brands lines, next year we are taking a cruise for my 50th, we are booked on Silversea, to be honest, if Carnival allowed for some form of status match within their own brands there is a very good chance we would have booked Seabourn, but they don't and we ended up as I said on Silversea.

      I have a friend who got upgraded on the Celebrity loyalty programme after over 30 nights with them. He now qualifies for one free... ice cream cone on each cruise! Not terribly exciting is it?

    • @lvthud
      @lvthud 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Dave_Sisson Not really, don't get me wrong, free internet or laundry is nice, but it's not something that will keep me tied to one line.

    • @ghjcmo
      @ghjcmo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@lvthud Now see I find benefits like free laundry and free internet to be valuable and something that WOULD make me want to stay with a certain cruise line. The problem is that it takes a LOT of cruises to get benefits like that. They just don't do enough in the earlier stages of the loyalty programs to really incentivize a cruiser to stay with one line. As Dave Sisson pointed out, a free ice cream cone? Or on HAL, I get a free picture of the ship. Seriously?

    I started cruising in the 70’s and have been on more than 100 plus cruises. I am diamond on Carnival and next to the top tier on RCCL and NCL. I traveled on CCL with my children/grand children and earned most of my points then. CCL does not appreciate their loyal members. They have this faster to the fun and they stand in the same line as diamond and platinum. I love NCCL and RCCL who appreciate their loyal guest. RCCL offers drinks and finger food in the evenings from 4-8 pm. NCL is my favorite suite ship because of the Haven. I book as far out as possible and watch to see if the fares go down to get the best deals.

    I think there are loyalty cruise credit cards? Maybe a future video?
    Also, does the Disney Cruise Line have a loyalty program? Is that program somehow linked to their resorts and/or theme parks?
    With the new Virgin Cruise Line, I wonder is there will be greater attempts for “vertical” integration with the Virgin airline and other segments (hotel)? And will this lead to other cruise lines to partner with other airlines?

    Well, without having watched the video (thanks for putting it on recommended section, youtube) I can give my 2 cents for beeing loyal to a cruise line. It all depends on the situation, lets say you float around the ocean and then suddenly there is a virus outbreak, people start getting sick and paranoid, you get quarantined in your room and so on, you know the drill, regular stuff. So in these situation the loyality is important from both sides, e.g. im loyal as long as the ship continues to provide a good whiskey every evening, keeps the sick far away and keeps assuring me all is fine, no matter what. Of course I would insist on a room upgrade. In return, I would vblog my experience and leave at least 4 out of 5 stars on google and tripadvisor.
