One of the more unique cruises we have done are the repositioning ones in April and November between the Mediterranean and Caribbean. It is *obviously* a lot of sea days, so it is usually a very relaxing cruise. We have done 4 of them, 3 to the Caribbean and 1 to the Mediterranean. We have also done a trans-Pacific repositioning in October that was both an Alaskan and Japan cruise into one. I think that was one of my favourite ones.

The Holland America repositioning cruises are top notch. Entertainment and food are just as good; fewer port stops, but onboard life is maybe better. We’ve done only trans Atlantic, but Seattle to Tokyo is on my radar.

I agree. The fall repo from the Med to the Caribbean or the spring repo from Caribbean to the Med are fantastic

The giant party ships are so full of activities that it almost makes more sense to have more sea days. I'm not sure they transit across the oceans as much though

We have done exactly what you did plus one more transatlantic. We have also done Hong Kong to Singapore and Dubai to Rome which were spectacular. With that said, if you do do a transatlantic consider one that goes South and ports in the Canaries, Madiera and Morocco and then across. We got lucky and did one on HAL and it was great. Plus when you take a Southern route across the Atlantic the weather is nicer and a lot warmer. So you can spend a lot more time on deck and at the pool. Few people know this or think about it.

You don't speak often about west coast USA cruises. Mexican Riviera in Dec. We have a cruise booked to do the Sea of Cortez in November. Hawaii is popular. We have a cruise booked to do a California Coastal in October. Perfect time of year for it.

New England and the east coast of Canada are great in August to go whale watching. The large Northeast Atlantic whales migrate to Canada in the summer; they start to return south in late September. I have lived my entire life in the Northeast of the United States; Maine and the east coast of Canada typically have mild weather and plenty of sun in July and August.

As always, very helpful Cruise tips! This year, we're doing the Mediterranean in September, (we find this the best time as most shops & restaurants are still open), and the Panama Canal cruise in October.
Always enjoy watching what you have to offer! Thanks!

I’m pretty happy I did Italy in October and booked Alaska for next year end of may (my birthday cruise lol) completely by accident.
You didn’t mention the Mexican riviera but I live on the west coast now and have taken a couple cruises. Let me say that March is probably the best month for that. The weather is good and the whales are migrating to Alaska which sounds bad but thAt combined with the babies are much bigger means that they are very active. As a native new englander that has been on dozens and dozens of whale watching cruises let me say that is by far the best I’ve ever seen all thanks to the energetic babies and their antics.

Some great ideas, especially regarding weather, which can make or break a trip. I've got a 16 day Princess trip in Norway next June, with 6-21 being in the far north at Longyearbean. I'm looking forward to several days without a sunset. - Iceland and New Zealand are still on my list.

My only cruise so far was a Western Med cruise on MSC, in the second half of May. Temperatures were great, and the ports weren't crazy busy. Really enjoyed it! We started off with a couple weeks on Malta - first half of May was a great time to visit Malta, provided you don't want to spend a lot of time on the beaches. Noodling around looking at all the historical sights was fun, weather was comfortable, and not yet high tourist season so not too busy yet. Fingers crossed to maybe cruise again in 2022!

I found that the changing leaves reay didn't start in eastern Canada or New England until early to mid October. Tbe years may have been warmer (approx 5 years ago) so I was disappointed with 1 trip that was in September (still around 30°C in Toronto!). The later trips were better as it eas quieter in Bar Harbor for example, and you could see fall cours coming through in the Cadillac National Park.

We made an Iceland-Norway-England cruise on Norwegian cruise line at the end of June. We went to Iceland several days early and were not prepared for the weather. It was cold and we were dealing with sleet for most of the time. We packed for a chill but not the weather that was there. Once we boarded the ship the weather cleared up though and we had a good time especially when we got over to the other side of the Atlantic.

I live in the Australian Barrier reef region in Queensland and it is still quite warm here up until May. Even after that the Barrier Reef region is still nice and sunny weather just a bit cooler at night. Winter after May is a popular time here especially for diving because the conditions are better for it, clearer water and no cyclones, great for the daintree jungle tours, scenic helicopter rides and hiking, along with all of the other activities. And our international borders are now re-opened to visitors after being closed due to Covid19.

I enjoyed your suggestions. I might add two thoughts. 1. March/April, do a Transatlantic from the Carib to the Med, then stay another week on the ship for it's first Med cruise. Probably get a nice back to back discount on at least the second cruise. 2. Likewise in Oct/Nov to a Transatlantic back to the Carib, with a follow on cruise in the Carib.

I as a Canadian would personally recommend swapping your October and September recommendations as the fall colours really don't tend to come out until early-mid October, particularly in recent years as climate change has led to longer summers.
The Mediterranean meanwhile still has good weather, pricing, and most notably choice in September. By the time October comes around most of the Mediterranean cruise options are either one-way trips or transatlantic repositioning routes, which while certainly nice are not necessarily for everyone. Otherwise, great list Gary!

Actually, In February during President's week, students in New York and certain other Northeastern states are off. So, you may want to avoid that week if you don't have school aged kids.

I'm interested in taking a crossover cruise to Europe in the spring, and or flying to Europe, returning back to the states in October or November. Have you done anything about that? What think you?

What about South America? East coast to west coast or visa versa. Or SE Asia like Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, etc?

Hi Gary, great video! Thank you. What time of year and what cruise lines do you recommend we look into for Baltic cruises including St Petersburg.

I have the same question...hey Gary, what's the best month for a Baltic cruise?

@@sherigeorgestachowski9313 Certainly around midsummer, middle of June. Think about the "white-nights" of St.Petersburg (and of course the whole region) then!

Remember, the Aussies go to school year round. Their “school holidays” are different. Watch out for Jan, April, July, August, late December and weeks long school breaks in between. ✌️

Yes! Although we have no school holidays in August but June/July and September/October. As an Aussie I had to laugh when he spoke about Tahiti being far away and exotic and if you wanted a less expensive experience closer to home then choose the Mediterranean. It is definitely the opposite for us.
