My wife and I go on at least 1 cruise every year and have our first ever Princess cruise coming up in January 2020. We've sailed on a quite a few brands and keep coming back to Carnival. The base Carnival brand is just the most laid back, relaxed, fun and entertainment filled option we've found. The reason we try other lines is to get to places where Carnival doesn't go.

Marty McFly carnivals entertainment is comparable to high school presentations. Carnival is for beginners who don’t want to spend much money or receive good for or entertainment

@@aidanhill5578 I totally disagree. Carnival has its own stand up comedy club on each ship with many great shows every night. They have pretty entertaining cabaret and theme music shows in their big theatre. They have the best trivias, because many trivias are staged like events. They have designated latin dance clubs on almost all ships. RCI and its spin-offs offer very little entertainment. Their trivias are mostly boring and the shows in the big theatre are all too often comprised of weirdness and the kind of dancing and prancing that just isn't entertaining. My wife and I have plenty of money. It's not a matter of price.

@@aidanhill5578, There is a reason they refer to Carnival as "the fun ships." Since 2017, every cruise I have been on has been with Carnival. One of my friends has Diamond status, and is the one who referred me to Carnival. I keep going back because they do a great job, every sailing. So much to do and their shows are very entertaining. They all work so hard, and you have no right to malign them. I've worked with high school theater for 18 years. Our kids delivered practically professional performances every year, and the Carnival entertainers are even better. Maybe if you ever worked in the industry, you might know better before you say nasty things about entertainers. Keep your nastiness to yourself

To hell with you a-hole. I and a lot of people I know and cruise with Carnival. It is always my first choice for cruises, unless they don't have the itinerary or ports that I'm looking for. As far as that Walmart remark, I'm pretty sure you shop there too, unless you're some rich jerk. I shop there because I am a underpaid teacher, that doesn't make me a trashy person. Money doesn't by class, because you obviously don't have it either way.

Thanks for the amazing videos Gary. I am about to board my first ever cruise: Windstar from St Maarten.
Because I'm a totally hard core Australian and lugged my 30kg of scuba gear and clothes in 2 bags on foot into the cruise terminal with ease, I was mistaken for crew and misdirected twice to crew check in stations!
Apparently a young lady in a T Shirt, Cargo pants carrying 30kg on her is quite confusing and grumpy security guard later apologised saying I genuinely looked like crew and that most guests don't rock up carrying half their body weight on their backs walking into the terminal!
Love your content and can't wait to put it to use.

@@tipsfortravellers Gary. I'm so sorry to bother you here. Your channel was an absolute inspiration to me before my very first Cruise and I watched so many of your videos to prepare.
Gary, I'm in day 6 of my Classic Caribbean cruise with Windstar, returning tomorrow. I am Australian with Chinese Heritage. I speak with an Australian British accent. I'm wearing Pandora, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and most importantly my cruise Lanyard ID on this cruise. And I've been mistaken for the crew 6 times in 6 days.
None of this is from the crew who have been nothing but sympathetic. This is from at least 3 port check in agents, 1 local Windstar partner tour operator, 2 guests and 1 restaurant operator. This included being yelled at by a security guard at check in that I was in a passenger area.
It was funny the first 2 times but has completely worn thin. The crew have just comforted me after the 6th incident and apologised profusely (once again not their fault, they are the only ones NOT mistaking me for one of them).
I can't do this anymore and just want to go home. I would appreciate any words of advice or perspective you can offer for a solo female of Asian heritage from the west. I am a frequent traveller, who reached her 45th country on this cruise.
      Thank you

Hi there. So sorry to hear your experience. It is very disappointing to hear that there is such bizarre and offensive behaviour. Have you spoken to the cruise director or hotel director on the ship. I would ask to speak to someone senior and give them a detailed list of where this happened. The company should be aware of the issue their guests are facing as they can also follow up with the ports and authorities to stop this happening to future guests. I have never seen this on my travels and on my Caribbean cruises have been a diverse passenger mix including many Asian travellers.

    • @Jrydell13
      @Jrydell13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tipsfortravellers thanks Gary.
I am off the cruise now thank heavens.
After the 4th incident I asked to meet with the guest services manager. Unfortunately more incidents happened with a grand total of 7 incidents by today's disembarkment - averaging me being mistaken for crew once a day on this trip.
The crew themselves were very apologetic and advised this sort of racism and assumptions happens in the Caribbean. I was very shocked but am taking it as a learning experience.
An incident happened within earshot of the Tender door staff yesterday from another guest taking the Tender. When this occured the staff put me alone on the tender, let me be upset and would not allow the other guest to board the tender with me. When I returned there was an invitation to Stella restaurant which I never made a booking for.
An experienced cruise passenger who witnessed incident 5 comforted me both yesterday and today. Both he and you have advised to contact senior Windstar staff and I will be. I had a great chat to the reception staff about this last night before disembarking and tipped the security guard who protected me during 2 incidents. I basically spent a week in luxury being racially denigrated and unfortunately will no longer be cruising alone ever again. (My boyfriend had vowed NEVER to let me cruise alone again)
      Thank you for your advice.

The ships are older and smaller but we chose them as we were able to book all flights transfers and hotels in 1 package and know that if anything went wrong at any point we only had 1 company to deal with plus we found the ship services foodd entertainment were focused on uk passengers
Also being our first cruise and being worried about gratuity's it was good that all tips were included within the package and the drinks were included aswell

I love that you called P&O one of Carnival’s more ‘luxurious’ brands. On paper they’re certainly not a luxury line as they’re fares and by and large very aggressively cheap, but I’ve been on the Britannia and I thought that was very glamorous and had some very luxurious spaces (atrium and spa spring to mind). To me I see P&O as affordable luxury, there were definite elements of luxury on board and had a great experience with them and I can’t wait to sail with them again next year😀 I know there are people who disapprove of them (but you get the same with every line even the mega luxury ones), but I honestly couldn’t fault them, I think they’re brilliant😄

@@crazyprayingmantis5596 I was so disappointed with the Dawn for many reasons. I had a balcony cabin which I shared with a young relative. The balcony was so small that we both could not sit on it at the same time. The balcony was so filthy and rusty and the chairs covered in white paint splatter that we had no desire to use it at all. There were no clean windows on this ship. The Dome observation area had a wonderful view, so I was told but not one window was clean enough to see through. The pizza and grill was expensive as was the ice cream. No free pizza on this ship and no free soft serve ice cream. Only one pool and too deep for young children. The food was not good and the buffet was overcrowded and tables not cleared. The floor was dirty with food scraps. The main dining room food was always cold and coffee and tea was not offered so had to be requested. The entertainment was pathetic especially in the theatre which had recorded music and no props. I was sailing with 26 family members otherwise I would have disembarked in Cairns. I would seriously consider another cruise line. The ports were fabulous and worth visiting. The crew were excellent and helpful but you couldn't pay me to go on that ship again. Cruising is expensive and for a little more you can experience a true cruise on another ship. Your children deserve something better but as it is their first cruise they have nothing to compare it with so may enjoy it. Good luck and I am sorry to burst your bubble.

msc is a newbie to the cruise industry, it mainly is a cargo carrying company, but now in the lucrative cruise industry, dont forget hapag-lloyd another mainly cargo carrying company, but also owns three cruise liners,.
also as a shareholder in ccl, carnival offers its owners a nice perk when sailing on any ship in the carnival family.
ncl is a terrible line. ships are nice, but service, clientele, and food is terrible. avoid!
there are scores of budget cruise lines like the three day cruises to the bahamas on second hand ships. i was in freeport and saw the old

MSC would definately be a good choice for you then since all people under 18 do not pay if travelling with two paying adults. Their ships the most beautiful and elegant among the cheaper cruise lines in my opinion and the service is pretty good as well. The only thing is I would avoid the Armonia, Sinfonia, Opera and Lirica since thay are the oldest ships in the fleet and the company has made huge steps forward since those were put into service

Disney was out of Port Canaveral.
My Wife and I also enjoyed the Costa more.
But of course...Disney is still our #1 preference.

He said it in the video, P&O is owned by Carnival Corporation. Interestingly he described P&O as one of Carnival’s more luxurious brands, which I find interesting but mostly correct. On paper they’re not luxury as their cruise prices by and large are incredibly good value, but the Britannia is very very glamorous imo and does have some very luxurious spaces, the atrium and the spa spring to mind. I call it affordable luxury, I’ve heard of some people that disapprove of P&O (but Ive heard disapproving comments about nearly every cruise line) but I honestly couldn’t fault them. I think they’re a brilliant cruise line and I can’t wait to go on them again😀

If a scandal hurts one company it doesn't damage others under the same corporate umbrella. It can also increase feelings of prestige for customers purchasing tickets on premium cruise lines. In the end the corporation is spreading their beats across the table to minimize risk.
The danger of Monopoly is when they become the casino and can completely manipulate the cruising market.
