Gotta remember with the new L5P its not just the peak numbers(which the truck never gets to because of how it shifts), the big change was 25% gain in low end torque. That 25% is huge across the whole rev range. Peak numbers matter little.

13k is a light load for that truck. I towed that weight years ago with my 2004 6.0 Powerstroke. Drop 20-25k behind that HD!

Just purchased the 2023 GMC 3500. I came from 3 ram cummins trucks over the last 10 years. Love cummins, however, this duramax is pretty sweet. You mentioned the lack of gauges like gear, temps, etc. I just purchased the edge insight 3. I have a couple videos on my channel showing how I use it. I love it!!! knowing my gear, boost, soot levels, etc. Highly recommend. Thanks for sharing the dash views on your channel as you are towing. I can't stand when people post these types of videos and they have the camera pointed at themselves the whole time. I like to see how the truck is responding.

Great video, JB! Put in a Banks Derringer with an iDash and you'll easily see the gear you're running and whether the torque converter is locked in or not. Will also give you any info that is available off the truck computer. It's an inline so will not void any warranty and does not write any info the truck computer. Easily installs/deinstalls in minutes.

I am glad you got to experience the Park City grade. Years ago in would bring many trucks to their knees including some of the trucks I have had. With the testing that you like to do, you should invest in a Banks I dash, simple plug and play into the OBD port and you can set it up to see all the info that you want to look at including clearing trouble codes. The I dash will also show you what gear you are in if you pick that in the display, but the best part is that you can see actual engine temps, boost pressure, tranny temps and a host of other things. When you said the truck smelled hot, you were probably in REGEN and didn't even know it. I constantly monitor my soot load and regen status with my I dash. Then if you really wanted to have some fun, install a Banks Derringer and add another 81 rear wheel HP and 144 rear wheel ft pounds of torque! I have had both on my L5P's and it really wakes them up especially towing heavy. I am pretty confident that my 23 GMC dually with the Derringer would spank the 24 dually pretty badly which is one reason why I bought the 23 over ordering a 24. I tend to keep my vehicles a little longer and the 2024 Duramax switched to a new ECM that might take a while to crack so it can be tuned. If you get an I dash, get a suction cup mount to attach to the windshield and then you could move it from vehicle to vehicle, it is really cool. As far as tranny temps go these are awesome numbers. When I pull Highway 16 towards Powder River Pass towing 20k with my 2017 Duramax 3500 SRW my engine coolant got to 225, and tranny got to 230 with the 6 speed allison.

JB, I was comparing transmissions in HD trucks, and I found out that the HD 10 speeds aren't built off the same architecture, as the half ton 10 speeds are. Tee-totally different trannys. I'll check back into that to verify, but I believe I've seen that point made on both GM and Ford articles about the HD 10's.

I just pulled Parleys today in my 24 Ultimate dually, was grossed out at 27,960, speed only dropped to 61 mph and Trans hit 201 for just a minute. Exhaust brake worked great going down towards Park City. 350 miles today. Most of Wyoming had a cross wind and crossed the Continental Divide, averaged 7.5 mpg at 70 mph.

Even with the battery switch you will have parasitic draw from things like carbon monoxide detectors (mine had little green lights on them) and other small things. Only thing you can do is completely disconnect every wire to the batteries. I learned after having to replace batteries multiple times after switching them off.

Hello thanks good video and haul - there is an angle or grade percentage feature on your dash so you know what the grade is. Also you were lucky it was only 75 degrees outside. Keep the truck in Tow-Haul for downhill the exhaust brake will stay engaged. You can't use cruise downhill because as soon as you hit the brake it cancelled. Get yourself a Banks I Dash so you can see turbo vane activity during exhaust braking and what gear your in!

If you have slides on your RV, there is still power going to the controllers even though you have the battery disconnects installed. I know this because I had both the chassis and house battery disconnects off for storage and the seam on top of my Dynamax DX3 developed a leak and water ran down into the tower where the slide controller was and the switch contacts got wet and the slide pushed out all crooked. I got home one day and the slide was and the battery was dead. I installed a separate battery disconnect in between the slide controller and its power and that resolved the issue and there is no more vampire drain. Confirmed with a multimeter.
Also where is the tow haul mode on that truck? I had a button on my F250, but on my new 2024 GMC 3500 dually, I can't find it. Is it automatic when it detects a trailer?
