Recently visited one popular toyota dealer in north west to put my name on the wait list. Because they don't charge any markups. But I just gave up after I heard there are 100+ people waiting. 😂 Finally ended up with getting a Venza hybrid. Because only 5-10 people were waiting on.
I have owned the new 2023 for the last few weeks. Has much more pickup than any previous versions. The car has a much smaller trunk. If you need to put a walker or wheelchair in the back, you must take down both back seats. You can’t change out any of the lights on the inside for aftermarket; they all use a circuit-style light. The dome and reading lights in front aren’t that bright. The car looks very sporty inside and out. If you are six feet or taller, watch your head getting in and out; the ceiling is cut significantly lower than in previous generations. The main car battery is back in the trunk, which is more accessible. The car has no spare tire, so if you buy one, you lose a lot more of your trunk. The vehicle makes a cool noise when driving slowly through parking lots, more of a head-turner for people. I do like the lock and unlock noise from the car; it’s new and sounds great. You can turn on your vehicle and off from an app. Car has built-in Wi-Fi from AT&T, not as fast as Verizon, but the connection has not been an issue as the connection is stable everywhere. Also, in the app, you can see the health of your car, see if your doors are unlocked, and lock them. I wish the app would let you roll windows up and down. The car is ultra quiet on roads and freeways. This is the fifth Prius I have owned; they have never broken down. I have never taken any of my Prius previously to a shop for any repairs and that’s with the cars having over 300k in miles. ~Chad James
Canada cannot get the solar roof option, sadly. I have asked the dealership to add it to my order IF Toyota changes their mind as I will be waiting more than a year for the car.@@PanzerBuyer
I drove one of these recently. it is an improvement but I didn't feel like it was worth 41K. Not to mention, the only dealers that ever have any of these on the lot are the ones who are still charging a $9,995 markup. the two local dealers who do not charge markups are selling these before the truck arrives.
Looks like Toyota has got a real winner with the Prius Prime. Maybe they can come up with a special logo like Amazon Prime does with the arrow that looks like a smile. Another great review, Joe.👍
@@bambeedoI have, and it’s really stunning. It’s not industrial white, it’s a somehow natural cool white which is why it includes pearl in the name. I usually go with silver grey, but for the Prius Prime, the Wind Chill Pearl looks better, although both colours are fantastic nonetheless.
The only hybrids I trust are Toyota’s. A family friend has a 2011 Prius. She has had no problems and fills up every 2 or 3 weeks. Where I live, currently gas is $4 a gallon so its definitely worth it.
I saw one of these on I64 in Southern Indiana today...very good looking vehicle and it was quick. I had to do a double-take to realize it was the new Prius.
In Michigan and wish I could buy one of these, but as a dealer told me, they rarely see them and they're more allocated to dealerships in coastal states. That and the fact that I cannot do an order for one to my specifications has me looking elsewhere. Why, Toyota?
sorry for asking a silly question. for the prius prime, I don't really need to charge the vehicle, correct? it can still run on regular hybrid, correct?
Great review as always! I have to make a correction if I understood you say the Prius was the original OG hybrid. That is not correct! In 1999 the two door Honda Insight was the first hybrid available in North America! I know because I bought one. The Prius followed about six or seven months later. I ended up buying the second generation of the Prius and loved it. I’ve owned many different hybrids from different manufacturers, including Lexus, since that time.
I have owned one of these for about a month (the regular version not the prime) and I catch people staring everywhere I go. It's very weird especially after having driven a gen3 prius for the last 10 years where the only looks you ever see are eye-rolls.
I don't see this Prime version even listed on Toyota dealers in Florida so far, not even the builder on Toyota site allows you to select it with FL zip code 😢
Yes absolutely! I own a Wind Chill Pearl 23 Awd LE (non Prime) and its just amazing in every regard as a daily driver. Plenty of power, and hypermile efficiency. If I didnt need the awd, I would have picked up a Prime! One of the best looking vehicles on the road😁
I just got the same model, different color. Getting over 60mpg commuting to and from work, in ECO mode but otherwise not trying to drive efficiently. Very pleased with my choice.
for us we had a deposit on a 23 prius xle trim. we were on the list for a few months and we are thinking about putting a deposit. on the prius hopefully we can get a new prius within 1 to 5 months.
Would it be a good idea to only carry half the gas tank filled if you'll be doing 95% of your daily driving in EV only mode? I figure the battery efficiency should be better instead of lugging around a full tank if you rarely need to use it. Any technical reasons why it could be bad, maybe? Thanks
I like it. Too bad they are difficult to get as of now, but hopefully that changes. This is what the Volt should have been if it wasn't discontinued. My 2018 Volt gets 70 miles electric in the summer, drops to 45ish in the winter depending on heat use. Would love to go to the Prius Prime when the time comes to get something new.
Toyota had a disastrous 2022, but 2023 is a recovery year, and i suspect 2024 will be a very good year for Toyota. This is a very rational update the previously very ugly Prius. So much faster and better looking, this might be enough to reverse the steadily declining sales of the Prius, but at 42k this product is not competitive with the RAV4 Hybrid, which gets good enough gas mileage, but has probably double the versatility and interior volume. Toyota is effectively trapped by the RAV4, which will be for the foreseeable future Toyota's #1 vehicle, and this car coming in above the price of the RAV4 hybrid doesn't even make sense mathematically. Toyota needs some cheaper product, but they don't want to bring that lower end to the USA. I think the dealership system is deeply harming the parent company, because the dealerships don't want low end product either. It's creating an affordability crisis. You used to have cars at 20/30/40/50. Now it is 40/50/60 and squeezes out too many folks. Toyota makes some very nice econoboxes, we don't get them.
Toyota should go in a direct sale/ vertical business model like Tesla does. It affects the brand. All and all, Toyotas are the most reliable vehicles in the market, a reputation well earned only to be damaged by unscrupulous dealerships.
1) how bad is the road noise? How bad is the CVT engine noise when revving? 2) does the battery emit fumes from the back that are of concern? 3) how bad is The steering wheel over the display in front? 4) what is torque curve like?

It's got a 10.6 gallon tank, so in the city the small wheel one is rated at 44 miles in EV mode and 53 mpg, which would be 605 miles. On the highway that's more like 40 miles and 51 mpg which would put you closer to 580 miles. Take about 5% or slightly more off if you get one with the 19" wheels. Plus another 5-10% off if you aren't driving like a Sunday driver.
