    I had this solar panel idea while I was 7 yrs old when teacher asked us to draw some inventions.
    Anyways, in one day, the solar panel will be so efficient that it will charge the car while driving in the daylight.

    • @ceu7929
      @ceu7929 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Won't happen since efficiency is extremely high already but it's enough to get about 5 miles a day at most which is very decent.

    To help clarify the eCVT, there is no belt or chain used in the more traditional CVT. It uses the MGU1 and MGU2 to keep the engine at peak RPM so that it is providing maximum output. So the transmission is an all mechanical drivetrain that is a mixture of ICE and Electric motors. So the engine will sit at a constant speed when you give it the beans and the electric motors provide the variable output as the car goes faster.

    • @TheMarcQ
      @TheMarcQ ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Imagine an ev with an electric generator hooked up

    • @TheJttv
      @TheJttv ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The honda eCVT is a bit better then the toyota eCVT as the toyota one requires one motor to always be spinning in time with the engine to vary that rate of power via a planetary gear set

    • @harrison8832
      @harrison8832 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a perfect way to explain the “transmission” :)

    • @RemiCardona
      @RemiCardona ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TheMarcQ nope, that's very wrong. ICE is very much mechanically linked to the wheels. What you're describing is how the BMW i3 REx works.

  • @mr88cet

    2:55 - The power-split device is notoriously hard to wrap your brain around, but it’s mechanically amazingly simple compared to any classical transmission: essentially just one single planetary-gear set. (All but 1st- and 2nd-generation Priuses add a further speed-compensation gear as well, but fundamentally, it’s just a single planetary-gear set.)
    Once you do wrap your brain around it, it’s actually very straightforward! It’s essentially a differential with its inputs and outputs reversed:
    A differential has one input and two outputs, and the rotation speed of the outputs average out to the speed of the input.
    A power-split device has two inputs and one output, and the output’s rotation speed is the (weighted) average of the two inputs. One of the inputs is the engine and the other is MG1.

      Although I think Toyota took a major step back with the last generation Prius. I currently have a gen 3 (that has a solar panel for ventilation), and when Toyota came out with the ugly gen 4, I thought my next car would not be a Prius. However seeing this design, and the EV range of the Prime, I've made a deposit on one.

    I dont expect to ever have one of these but I do like it.
    The way you get neutral is to hold it. Thats so you dont accidentally knock it into neutral because it seems fairly easy to do so if it was bump only.
    But it looks WAY better than previous generations and the weight is great too. If the top of the line came down in price and I needed a daily driver Id consider one of these.

A brand new model that replaced the Avalon. The Toyota Crown. It is a great looking car that has many SUV qualities. I ended up liking the Crown more than the Prius. But of course, they are two rather different vehicles. Great review, Sarah.

    Road trips are where the Prius really outclasses every other vehicle on the road. My wife and I bought a 2007 Prius in 2015 and within a month of buying it we drove it from Tucson to Panama City Beach and back. I was kind of skeptical about the car before the trip (my wife picked it out for her car) but after that trip I was sold. That trip was 3,500 miles and we only had to spend $200 on gas. I think we only stopped to fill it up about six times over the entire trip. We're approaching 200k miles on it now and have never had any issues at all with the gas engine or the EV system. Other than routine maintenance the only thing we've had to repair was a leak in the AC system. It's not a pretty car but what it lacks in looks it more than makes up for in its engineering. I would argue that the Prius is the most reliable car ever built and they've only gotten better since ours was made.

    I love the way you've reviewed cars by lifting them up and talk about things that I never even know. I'd like to see you lifting review Tesla especially Model Y. Please make my dream come true. 🙏🙏🙏

    What a coincidence that I got to your channel when I was researching new cars. I decided to get the Prius Prime for its EV range, and new looks (getting a red one, that should go well with the interior accents). In many states, it's an extremely hard to get car right now. I also think the yellow color looks the best, but that color isn't available in the States.

    Hugging the curb trying to avoid door dents. Defeating the annoying safety features. You may be my spirit animal Sarah. 😏

    Yo @Sarah. Just a note based on the last video: there are folks that can help you grow and monetize the channel without getting into sponsorships or messing with the content you produce. Like SEO and other YT techniques to get the most out of the system. I worked with someone great in the kids/family space for example. I just want to see the channel succeed on your terms and for you to keep doing what you clearly love to do, while making the best car content on the interwebs. I've watched other folks like Mat Armstrong and Auto Alex grow over the past couple of years and while they do things differently to you, there are probably learnings there as well.

    I’m floored by how great the design is. They finally got it right. What a great car. This is what I’m going to get to use as my commuter. I live on a ranch in Malibu, so I have to keep my 80 Series Land Cruiser, but I can finally offset my dreadful carbon footprint with something designed with some thoughtfulness.

    I wish I could see more real world testing of auto-parking assist - I've got geometrically challenged ecologically cautious relatives, so this feature is kinda interesting.

    If anything happened to my current car I would seriously consider getting a new Prius (not the Prime since I can't plug it in). Well that assumes I don't walk out the dealership laughing due to markups.
