Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door might not have nearly as many broken glitches as Paper Mario 64, but there are some pretty fascinating discoveries that have been made. Ever since I started uploading videos of glitches from the first Paper Mario, I have received countless requests to show off some glitches in the sequel. This took a lot of time to put together, so I really hope you guys enjoy this video!

..Which, of course, don't include sniffing out treasure, blowing fake walls away, or exploding.

I had no idea why Malleo was screaming in joy when #1 was discovered, as I'm not really in any speedrun community (the bugs fascinate me though), once I found out what it enabled I was screaming in joy myself.
Ya i remember that. Unfortunatly IMO, Palace Skip is still EXTREMELY difficult..... almost TAS only for now.
I did the Flavio glitch last playthrough... skipped through Chapter 5 almost entirely... so basically I went straight into Chapter 6 and Flavio was following me still, y'know... floating in weird places, running up offscreen, getting stuck... didn't get the sapphire star, because I didn't fight Cortez. It was so weird on the main menu to see that one still blank even today.
Why did you call yourself MisterBoners? I guess it's because of Lucario having a bone...
I did that same thing after learning about this. Only pain in the ass is if you don't have godly timing to pull off consistent B Counters it makes the Shadow Queen a bit of a struggle without Sweet Feast.

TTYD was the more popular game, but I'm going to continue to focus on PM64 content until the glitches are no longer interesting

Unfortunately they don't, the closest thing to it is the Text Storage used for Palace Skip

2160p4K? Holy shit, was not expecting the video to be THAT high quality.
Too bad my laptop isn't good enough to play it that high, ends up being played at half speed and having to buffer every few seconds.
actually i emulate my gamecube games at 5K rendering which in the end is really a stress test for the CPU, which is an i5-6400.

well it doesnt overheat. i have a good heatsink to go with it that makes it stay at 20-25°C.
I imagine that it wouldnt overheat if the voltage was set correctly with SMB1F Laptop, but 20-25°C?! Thats amazing!
A small and useless glitch I found is in the final grodus is if you jump facing one way while lightly jumping the opposite way you will not change direction so if you jump up the stairs while facing away from grodus when the scene triggers Mario will be facing away from grodus during the cutscene

Enjoy the new Top 10 guys! Many more Top 10 glitch videos are planned for the near future, but I can't promise more videos on glitches from The Thousand-Year Door since the game is simply less broken. In the event more glitches are found, that could warrant another Top 10, but if you're desperate for more TTYD content in the meantime, I strongly recommend checking out the links in the description. On some of those channels, you'll find a few more glitches that I didn't cover in this video.
Also, I want to emphasize the importance of Twitter once again, as many glitch hunters, including myself, don't always feel the need to document small-scale glitches on video. Sometimes an image or a tweet will suffice, and I'm sure there are a few of you out there that are still interested in seeing glitch progression in these games. Most of glitch hunters that discovered glitches in this video (and my previous videos) use Twitter, so there are a few links in the description to follow our accounts as well!
Thank you all for the continued support. I never realized so many people were interested in learning in-depth game mechanics and glitches in the Paper Mario series. Paper Mario: Sticker Star is incredibly under rated.
It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.

How the hell did anyone figure out that last glitch
In this game there is *ALWAYS* a way out of bounds; and when some one places something a speedrunner wants beneath the stage you can be sure they'll find a way to get to it.
There is a guy who beat Dark Cloud without finishing the first dungeon by breaking the shop to glitch in items and spec his own item to have the same hexadecimal value as the end-credits there-by calling the credits without going through the rest of the game.

My little sister wanted to see the Flavio Bug, so I started a new file to do the Ms. Mowz glitch. Sadly, I made the mistake of going to Poshley Heights, saved my file, and made both the Flavio Bug and completing the game impossible.

Great Top 10! I've been watching your channel since the beginning. I came for the speedruns, and stayed for the glitches. You're a SUPER player!
One of my favorite glitches that you can use to level up quicker is the "Going back in time" glitch that I was surprised wasn't on here.
Its a combination of Goombella buffering, the Mrs Mouz fish glitch, and the Flavio's Adventure glitch for good measure.
Do the cage skip in chapter 2, and never break the panel inside of it. Beat chapter 2... And the rest of the game. You can Skip ahead with the Flavio Glitch.
Then resume your save file after you battle the final boss. Head back to that panel in the cage and break it.
Congratulations! You have traveled back in time, and are living in cheaper two again. You are now an overpowered monster. You can get the partners, crystal stars, see the substitute text that appears when you enter cutscenes with partners you haven't unlocked yet, all over again! But what takes the cake is that you can fight all the XP rewarding bosses!
Just watching this brings back memories. I loved TTYD, and I'm sad that Nintendo hasn't made anything quite the same since.

Does TTYD run at 60fps on Gamecube?
No, 30fps. However it does run in 480p if you have component cables (or a Wii with it's component cables), and it looks great!

I remember getting an accident glitch that made me have to go back little ways in chapter 8.(didn't save before)
It was the Palace where there's water, I feel in the water by accident, and I respawned in the water, meaning the Chain Chomp took health away from me until it was game over.
This actually happened in my first full playthrough of TTYD.

There is also a way to get yoshi early and skip a lot of the game using a lot of the techniques shown in the video. First with Flurry get the ultra hammer early. Then do the cage skip glitch and get the emerald star early and get the super boots. Go into Grubba's office but don't sign the contract. Leave and activate the cage, reverting the game back to chapter 2. Then when you go back to glitzville there is a yoshi egg jumping around. Get the egg and go to grubba's office. Do a ground pound off the very corner of grubbas desk to get on to the bookshelf near the vent and walk right thru the vent. Go back out the vent and open grubbas drawer to find the paper and go to the arena to fight macho grubba.

The "Sort Glitch" reminds me a lot of that really high mastery glitch you did in Paper Mario 64 where you were in the Volcano and you were able to continue movement and even jumping but the Save Block notification was above you at all times.

I've had it for about 9 years. It's a great game, and worth the money!
Frankly, the game isn't being sold anymore and isn't available as VC yet, so there is no real moral quandary about playing a ROM. GCN Emulation, and TTYD in particular, is not bad at all.
idk if gamecube games will ever be on virtual console but they will never be on the wii u virtual console

This one is pretty major, but by using koops and quickly entering a door when he is really far away(I did this in the trouble center in rougeport) causes him to glitch out against the door. Walking far enough to the left will make koops fall out of bounds. I did this a few times, by unfortunately he always teleported back. Sometimes it did take a while though

Last I saw, it wasn't as accurate as I'd like (I'm kinda meticulous about my HD textures), but it's certainly gotten better if I'm seeing them in action here!
This is the standard version of the game, it holds up marvelously well for being 12 years old. Last I heard the HD texture pack wasn't finished.
Never heard of the HD texture pack, but coming from someone who loves this game to death, I can testify that this is the default version of the game, beautiful as it is.
I call bull! I know just as much as you do that this game looks awesome, but things like the textures in the skybox or on walls shouldn't look THIS good! Hell, the text shouldn't be that sharp either!
Either Malleo used an HD texture pack to doll up the video for ya, or Intelligent Systems spent too much disc space on textures. Which I would find hard to believe considering how much content is in the game.
Nah lol, I met up with Malleo irl, that's when we worked on this together. This is actually the original game's textures. It's pretty impressive.
the reason it crashes when you do the sort glitch with his emails is due to mario deleting them - back in the day he was secretary of state in the usa.
Here's a funny glitch I found while playing this game. After chapter 5, you must help find Frankies wedding ring. After getting it, they say to come to the dock. Instead, use the pipe to Rougeport ( opened through Fish Glitch) and from there, go to the Corrtez's ship and go to Keelhaul Key. Upon arriving, Francessca and Frankie will slide to the right along with the boat while their text shows up. Afterward, you can talk to them as they are stuck in a wall. After getting on the boat, things go back to normal.
Im sure it's useless but it is kinda funny. :)
I like how at 9:36 his voice so perfectly aligns with the change of music, making the 2nd Flavio's appearance all the more dramatic.
Also, can anyone tell me how to get *past* Chapter 5 *after* doing the Flavio glitch? I did it on my Gamecube, but I can't "register" finishing the chapter at the TYD after I return to Rougeport with Flavio (btw, didn't beat the entire chapter at that point).
hey stryder- I want to ask you how do you manage to make your videos have that sharp and clear quality? Do you render the original video in ultraHD instead of making it just 1080p?
Yeah, it's in 4K, TH-cam just hasn't processed the setting yet. I also use Sony Vegas & a really high bitrate, so it's a pretty high quality render.

I tried that "chapters 5 and 6 early" glitch before starting chapter 5, and went to chapter 6 first.
I don't recommend that.
I had to delete my file because I couldn't progress further. I had, earlier that day, spent (wasted at this point I guess) 1.5-2 hours completing the entire pit.
reason:
Due to the blue pipe taking you to Poshley Heights, using the pipe makes the game think you've completed everything up to the end of the train ride if you use the pipe early glitch to gain access to Poshley Heights, since you haven't completed past it already. If you go to the train, you can board it and people will be saying things like "I lost my earrings" "my necklace is gone" "that was a hectic 3 days" and stuff, despite you never having completed the chapter, or even the previous one.
If you read the note on the sanctum, Pennington comes by and opens it like normal, you walk inside, and Beldam, Marylin and Doopliss are there stealing the fake crystal star, despite you never having completed chapter 5 and said (with Beldam nearby) that the crystal star was there.
If you go back to Rogueport and use the chapter 5 pipe, or even go to the docking area, you'll see cortez's ship at the docks, despite never having defeated him. The wall that you have to blow up with Bobbery is already blown up. Every puzzle is already completed, except some things that require Bobbery (such as the boarded up wall that requires the blowing up of a switch too high on a ledge for you to hit) won't be completed. Flavio and Crump are still at the camp due to you not having technically beaten the chapter yet, though trying to talk to them does nothing because the game thinks you're at poshley heights progress-wise. If you go to where Bobbery is in the tree that you knock him out of and get him his chuckola cola, he's not there. You'll need to try the "get Bobbery early" glitch to get him, though I was too novice at glitching to be able to do it so I'm not sure if it actually works.
Anything you need to get during these chapters are no longer available, due to the game thinking you've already gotten them and progessed past their points, yet you aren't capable of going back and getting them. Bobbery is unavailable, Paper Boat mode is no longer obtainable, you can't get the train ticket because that cutscene has been already completed in the eyes of the game's progess management and Don has been replaced with Frankie, and you can't go to Riverside Station to get the ultra boots due to the Rogueport train entrance being blocked off to people without tickets (which you can't get) and the Poshley Heights entrance doesn't permit you to ride back until you get the Garnet Star, which you can't obtain because it requires use of the Ultra Boots.
I don't think there's anything that one could do to revert game progress, I don't think there's anything in the game like the original's "retrigger prologue" glitch that would've helped, especially for someone like me who would have to spend hours trying to master the glitch in order to successfully do it.
Something I thought up of shortly after making this comment was that you could actually use these glitches to save time if used correctly.
Use the chapter 5 pipe to skip the scene where you arrive on the boat.The game *should* act like you started the chapter normally. Complete the chapter like you normally would, but with access to Rogueport (so you can cook recipes, including the restricted-to-after-chapter-5 Zess Dynamite).
Then get the train ticket for chapter 6, and use the chapter 6 pipe AFTER getting the ticket. This is why you need to complete chapter 5. This will skip the train ride because the game will think you reached Poshley Heights normally. Then go back to Rogueport and ride the train. You will go to Riverside Station. Get the ultra boots. Complete the chapter like normal. No boss battle (or any part of the chapter) if my predictions of how the game will behave are correct.
I discovered a weird glitch in the Glitz Pit many years ago that I don't think anyone else has found. It allows you to get into the minor league locker room before you actually join the Glitz Pit roster, and basically just skip the contract scene. I really should post that sometime. I discovered that probably back like 6-10 years ago, so I hope I can still do it. Time to make a new file...
