Oh yes. We need to have a third and maybe a fourth film (that one can deal with WW2). The story-telling the series and the first two films entwined us in with the characters' lives so well that if a third film did not happen, we would all see a void in our "Downton" experience.
What about a new series perhaps focussing on just a few characters at a time. Another film could focus on particular characters and their lives good and bad. To be honest the possibilities are endless.
I wouldn't mind, in fact I'd prefer it, if Henry Talbot was killed off. That would leave a twice widowed Lady Mary to explore her options. I always thought she'd missed a good thing with Charles Blake. They wallowed in pig effluence together and then she... SHE... cooked him scrambled eggs in Mrs. Patmore's kitchen. How much more romantic can it get? 😜 PS -- Please Baron Fellowes, no more story lines where Branson repetedly saves the day as in the first flick. That beggared belief.
It was bad enough killing off one husband, it would be the epitomy of lazy writing to do it twice. I'm more interested in further installments of Belgravia at this point, and it can be argued that Fellowes is too.
@@mnomadvfx I would wager that Baron Fellowes is well aware of this particular scenario in aristo history and wouldn't consider it to be as facile as you may think.
I would love another film because I love the series and the first two but I wouldn’t be disappointed if there wasn’t one the second one wrapped up very nicely and has a nice bittersweet ending.
Mary's second husband was a really bad investment in storyline which served nothing to advance her character growth or advance the survival of Downton. To keep the husband, he must be worth something to advance the story. Fellowes screwed that one up bigtime. The Wall Street crash of '29 would either show the resilience of the Levinsons or their fall and needs to be addressed. The rise of Edith as a woman of influence in publishing would be a good one to highlight as the Crawley grandchildren are growing up to a coming war against the backdrop of the King's abdication crisis. Also a sweetened maturity of the sisters' relationship would be a better launching pad than a continuation of their old rivalry. A good third movie must lop off all the useless bits of narrative to focus on the advancement of beloved characters, the family legacy and the coming generation of Crawleys.
If they do a third I hope Charles comes back and marries Mary and saves the Abby because he has been very smart with his money. After all they got along greatly and Mary seemed to be more honest with him than any man and he did want to marry at one time.
Your thoughts?
Absolutely would love a third movie

4th in WW2 is unlikely, at best it might lead into WW2.
Film 2 is still set in the 1920s so you would have to make large time jumps to get there.
Love to watch More More
More please we love Downton Abbey :-)
I want to see the Downton Abbey three sequel needs to came back again
I would love having Ben Daniels replace Matthew Goode as he did in the Crown. It could be done with a nod and a wink!

Please, please, please give us more films.
Definitely a 3rd film is needed.

I'm in if Allen Leech has as much screen time as he did in the first film.

It will be hard if there isn’t a third film. Kill off Mary’s husband since he obviously doesn’t want to be in the movies
Didn’t like the last movie they tried to cram too much into it
Couldn’t watch the last one. Too flimsy. Time to end these continuous shows when they no longer have a story left.
IMHO it was already done when they gave Edith her own ending at the end of season 6 with the final special.
