The small shops in "rynok" markets are not only more friendly, but you can also find some products there that you cannot find (for any reasonable price at least) in chain supermarkets. For example, you can buy fresh curd by weight, or smoked sausages made according to Italian recipes in small factories, or many other delicious items.

Most expensive item in saw (except for the apparel and appliances) was a family size bottle of Head & Shoulders shampoo for 699 rubles ($7.25). This cost $11.47 at Walmart. Tomatoes of 139 rubles ($1.44) sounds expensive, but that's per kilo which is 2.2 lbs., so the tomatoes are 65 1/2 cents per lb.
Everything is lower in Russia including salaries, pensions and prices. If your income is $20K/year the grocery prices aren't great. The Moscow & St. Petersburg areas are well off but most of Russia is poor and its getting worse. There's 9% inflation (we complain about 2.5% in US) and interest rates >17% (4.5% in US). The ruble exchange rate has gone from ~75 = $1 to ~95 = $1 so if a $1 item cost 75 rubles a year ago, now it costs 95 rubles.
Yes it’s pretty much like an Aldi. Truck to Shelf stocking to keep labor to minimum which in turn keeps price low. Not sure of overall ‘quality’ of the food. Here in Brazil, we have (feira livre) street market that sells a lot of fruits and vegetables. They run from early morning till 2:00pm. People who shop there after 12:00pm are also called something like you said “beggar shop”. However, if you go there almost at closing time, you can still have great products for a bargain.😊
It's same with russian bakeries - but they close at 23.00 (it's the latest closing time I know) their last freshly baked time is at ≈18-20 time, and after 21.00-21.30 there is always a discount for all baked products. At fruit shops I sometimes got some fruits for free (like, the seller had to corner me lol) I got some strawberries that way, half was bad but half was good lol it was literally forced into my hands and I didn't pay anything so I don't complain lol
This is similar to Aldi or the like. I don't normally shop there as there's no specials(which are cheaper than the prices they have) and can normally get the stuff cheaper elsewhere (like fruit & veg or butchers ect..).
All those same Oreo biscuits and chocolate bars from western brands cost double or triple price in London. The real cost of manufacturing those bars must be pennies if they can sell them for a dollar and still make profit both for the retailer and the factory that makes them. LOL Just imagine what kind of mark-ups they are raking in places like London. Yes, you are right the store looks similar to Aldi, but prices in Aldi in London are much higher. In this store I can see everything is less than a dollar except meat which is just over a dollar. Such prices simply don't exist in London.
Average salary in London is £44K p/a which converts into RUB5.5m p/a and is RUB458K per month. Average salary in Moscow is RUB139K per month. What's your point, genius? As I already mentioned previously, since you hate London so much, why not to depart somewhere where you'll be much happier?
@@Tina-gm4uf он не говорит про зарплаты , он говорит про то , что один и тот же товар стоит в Лондоне в 3 раза дороже , а это значит , что производитель просто наживается на людях...
@NogiVrotov He doesn't talk about salaries, true, but he should. The purchase power in London is considerably higher but so are the costs, such as logistics, lease of the premises, labour, taxes, etc. All of them are factored into the pricing in London, it's not just the direct costs of producing the humble bisquit. I cannot verify if the quoted price of Oreo biscuits is correct as I don't buy/consume mass-produced confectionary. However, there are always the ways to buy these kinds of products cheaper in London, e.g. in Poundland (it no longer lives up to its name but the stuff is still considerably cheaper there than the average supermarket). Besides, Albion here frequently posts biased and untrue comments where it comes to London stores and food, hence I wanted to bring some perspective. PS. I'm not saying London is not expensive, by the way, because it is, eye-wateringly so! It's just that one has to compare like with like. I used to go almost weekly to France and would bring back, among other things, some wine. The identical bottle at the now closed Nicolas wine stores in London would be some £8 more. Some of it would be profit, sure, but the bulk was actually tax. That's why a lot of Brits in Kent used to drive across the channel to do their grocery shopping in France.
Where are all the people waiting in line for half a loaf of bread , ah sorry , I forgot that’s only on American propaganda films about Russia. Stay strong Russia, love from uk ,

I am not sure i can fully explain that in detail in a supermarket video. I need to leave that up to the economists. The best yard stick is to compare the price of bananas. It's long been a funny way to judge the price of food in Russia.
Actually Russians are very cultured. Unliked the common American, almost anyone has some knowledge of a foreign language. Even for people raised in the Soviet times, the curriculum in mandatory school contemplated a second language (one between English, French and German). Young Russian nowadays are completely fluent in language and very often their vocabulary is stronger than their American peers. So almost anyone knows perfectly the Latin alphabet.
I’ve never met a Russian who’d be fluent in English tbh. But they absolutely know how to use the Roman alphabet. They even used to type in Latin alphabet in the Russian language in the past; when they had older phones. It was very funny and absolutely every Russian did it. Besides, Latin is a mandatory subject in philology-related universities.

@@TravellingwithRussell I live in Russia, in particular in Moscow. You can look at the vacancies of a sales clerk, a sales floor employee, a storekeeper.
@@Tina-gm4uf 139 rub per month?
@@Tina-gm4uf он не говорит про зарплаты , он говорит про то , что один и тот же товар стоит в Лондоне в 3 раза дороже , а это значит , что производитель просто наживается на людях...
@@mrishka5 139K per month = 139,000, at least according to statistics.

I am not sure i can fully explain that in detail in a supermarket video. I need to leave that up to the economists. The best yard stick is to compare the price of bananas. It's long been a funny way to judge the price of food in Russia.

Sooo interesting! Love watching this! How do people there manage reading the Roman alphabet packaging?
Actually Russians are very cultured. Unliked the common American, almost anyone has some knowledge of a foreign language. Even for people raised in the Soviet times, the curriculum in mandatory school contemplated a second language (one between English, French and German). Young Russian nowadays are completely fluent in language and very often their vocabulary is stronger than their American peers. So almost anyone knows perfectly the Latin alphabet.
в России 75% людей владеют английским языком на уровне А1
30 % на уровне А2
10 % на уровне В1 и выше.
@@АНДРЕЙ3500 в Англии английским владеет каждый дворник, но это мало о чем говорит

Our central heating in our apartment has been on already for 2 weeks. Nice and warm in the house already. No need to stock pile food. I have 7 supermarkets close by. th-cam.com/video/Tg4eFSGLsmU/w-d-xo.html
I prefer supermakets because they have bonus cards . You can get one bonus point for each bying sektion. Than bonus points are converting into a money.
Don't forget: salary in Russia in this shop per hour 2.6€, 30€ in day, and people work 15 hours per day
Can you share the link to where you get this information from ? No one is working 15 hours per day in Russia.
@@TravellingwithRussell I live in Russia, in particular in Moscow. You can look at the vacancies of a sales clerk, a sales floor employee, a storekeeper. I went for interviews and everyone offered a job from 12h to 15h. 15 hours of work is given by DIKSI (Дикси), MAGNIT (Магнит), LENTA (Лента) and other retail stores, you have to come from 7-40 in the morning and work until 23-20, but they give 2 hours break, but there is practically no such break, because there are not enough workers and you constantly have to lay out goods, be at the checkout, take goods to the store. I worked in such conditions, and yes, I worked in Holland and the difference is noticeable, 8 hours of work versus 12-15. And because of such low wages, such cheap food prices.
