Your courageouos adventures never cease to amaze me, Eli. I continued to be impressed by the quality of your videos, the choice of music, and how well you interact with people no matter where you go.
You know, Eli, during the Second World War (the Great Patriotic War), expeditions of schoolchildren aged 14-17 were sent from Arkhangelsk to Novaya Zemlya. They had to get seal meat and fat there, collect bird eggs, bird meat, fishing, and so on. Books have been written about this in the USSR, and a film was made (it's called "Summer Walk to the Sea"). One of the books was written by Nikolai Vurdov, a member of the first such expedition. Of course, he is not a writer, so his book is more a historical testimony than a literary work. The other one, it's called "Two steps from the war", its author Vadim Frolov, I liked it a little more from the point of view of literature. Only boys participated in the first expedition of schoolchildren to Novaya Zemlya in 1942, but the following year girls also went on the expedition. And one of them was Olga, my grandmother's younger sister.

The USSR flew them out of Vladivostok and used them to keep track of the U.S. fleet movements in the Pacific. We called the area "Bear Alley".
