And of course, I hook some very nice Snakehead and Bass on this “westside” Maryland adventure!

It was awesome fishing with on the Westside. I hope to explore more Westside locations soon. The habitat is different from the east, but still quite beautiful. Great tips at the end. I look forward to the next trip.

Thats really where I spent a lot of my time learning to fish for bass. I have a great spot over there. It has absolutely tons of grass. I mean thick thick grass the last time I was there

@@KambotroutFishingI believe I'm following on FB, I'll double check, only one I'm familiar with is Rawr. I have purchased the lures, have a small boat, kayak- gear etc.. wish I could go now, but mom is beginning hospice- so all is on hold, but looking fwd to summer, truly happy I discovered this, looks awesome. Yes he is!. I've learned so much about catching snakeheads from 2 things..... your videos and talking with Greg.
That jacked up jaws is from those metal lip grippers. Seen so many fish lips ripped from those. Use plastic grippers if your going to release fish.
I’ve seen some small puncture wounds from using my grips, but man, nothing like that one. I think you’re right though. Just can’t believe how mangled its jaw was.
@@KambotroutFishing yeah, I had the same one you use. I caught a beautiful steelhead in Erie. Wanted to weigh it and release it. That metal lip gripper ripped right through it jaw. It looked like the Alien from Predator. I had to keep the fish because of how mangled it was. Went straight to plastic lip grippers for 5 years now. No issues with any fish and had a 8lb snakehead try to roll on me but the grippers held it down.

What are your forecasts for this weekend...today is hella humid in the 80s and tomorrow is supposed to be in the 80s as well but I see rain in the forecast for Blackwater, think it’s worth it to go tomorrow?
I think it’s worth it to go tomorrow, but I’d expect a challenging bite.
The spawning carp will generally turn off sneks in the immediate vicinity of the carp’s splashing and many snakehead are now spawning heavily (and thus not feeding).
How far away are you from BW?
Kambotrout Fishing hour and a half drive to feed the snakehead need...haven’t found any good spots on the westside I can fish from the shore...but I know they’re in Blackwater in abundance so I take that into consideration to make it worth the drive

Thanks for local content! I live near College Park. Would you recommend anywhere near me for handicapped access to snakehead and bass shoreline fishing? I can't go in a boat.
Hey Steve and thanks for watching! Lake Artemesia has seen a couple Snakehead come out of it now, but not very many. The Patuxent has a good number of Snakeheads in it, but I'm not familiar with handicap accessibility on the Pax. Wooten's Landing park has some ponds there and I've heard there are Snakehead in them, but I'm not very familiar with handicap accessibility there either. Same for Farmington Landing on Piscataway Creek off the Potomac.
Sorry I can't be of more help. I'll keep an eye out for more places close to you.
Do you have tips on catching snakeheads from the bank?
I would find bridge crossings because they often constitute “choke points”.
Choke points are where the water narrows and current increases, funneling bait through the narrow stretch and making it a prime location for predatory fish.
In terms of gear, I would take three rods. Two with minnow-float rigs (8” - 18” between the float and minnow) and one rod with lures like swimbaits and Mepps spinners and such.
Then have a rod or two out with minnows while casting the other.

How far up into the cover??
As the day started and the tide was high, they were up pretty deep. But i played those fish and the tides pretty well and found ‘em when they didn’t have much flooded cover to go into 😁
