- I highly recommend the stanley top toad rigged, it comes with a weighted hook that flips the frog over faster. amzn.to/2Opn7Cz
Hope you enjoy this Snakehead 101 series....I love fishing for these fish. while a lot of the time you will catch them while just fishing for bass, when you set out to actually try and catch them you can quickly realize how elusive and hard it can be. It took me 3 trips a couple years ago to land my first one. While I ran across several that took my bait....actually getting the hook in them was hard.

Hah! That's also my favorite snakehead spot... I knew it looked familiar when I started watching.
Lou, If you position the boat parallel to the Shoreline and cast in front of the boat parallel to the Shoreline you stay in the strike zone longer. The way you're doing it is you have the boat pointed to the Shoreline and you're casting directly in front of the boat. You stay in the strike zone for a very short time. I fish a lot of tournaments and I thought I'd just point out a pointer.
Also, if you wait a couple seconds after they strike, you will get more hookups.
Aquia has some big ones up in the bends in the summer, spinners really wallop them in the mid depth range, last time I was there with the Reel American heroes foundation I caught a 10.2
Try the Lunkerhunt Prop Frog for the top water bite. Snakehead go crazy for it!!! Went out this morning on the Chop and did well with that and black/blue chatterbait.
Cool video! I go out almost daily looking for snakehead. One tip if you want it...toss the frog in that grass a little and you will be less likely to spook the ones sitting right there at the edge!
Dude thats some excellent advice thank you
Frogs don’t fall out of the sky they fall out of trees on windy days or come in from the grass, fun fish to catch
Hey bud, nice video- are you familiar at all with the Bear Creek/Lynch Cove area? I've seen snakeheads in ppl's crab traps so I know they're out here but can't get one- been tryin frogs, ploppers and chatters with no luck, just a few small stripers on the ploppers- any advice for this area?
Try soft jerk baits weightless Texas rigged
@@BeyondTheBoundsOutdoors thx for replying! I've been trying white, chartreuse and a sand eel color fluke (brown/olive and creme) for stripers but I'll try working some of the white ones along the edges of the grass mattes and near shady structure more for snakes. I caught a bunch of killifish/banded minnows at my main spot and tried them rigged on a circle hook- something chomped the entire back end off behind the gills but I think it was probably a turtle given the area. Thx again for the advice tho, I'll try it out.
I had told another channel about it but need to mention it to you as well since you use Lew's. Tackle Warehouse has the Mark Rose Ledge rods for half when you purchase any Lew's reel over $130 or $140 can't remember which. Still a pretty good deal on what will be their second most expensive rod come next month with the ProTi, still thinking about getting another ProTi with one to give to my dad while it's available, you get to pick which model and all.
Good deal
Yeah figured for half they might be a steal with the lifetime.
I thought in Maryland that you had to kill the snake head immediately after catching. I know they even provide instructions on how to do it. Love your videos keep up the good work. cannot wait to see the next one.
You thought wrong - The government can't make you kill anything .. Well, unless you are in the military. If I catch one one I am letting it go free..
im in va so I was wondering because you said this was your first time catching one on the topwater bite. What other lures do you use because a lot of my research mainly talks about topwater lures. I have caught a couple small ones on a seiko while bass fishing but was definitely looking to start targeting them pretty soon.
BLVK HIPPIE94 mainly flukes white or pink...but I've had them bite off all sorts of Texas rigged baits.
really I haven't heard that one before. I flukes would be to slow for them ha thanks for the top man I appreciate it
Thanks for the great video! Do you go straight braid no leader in most conditions?
Is this where you bent the hook on that lure
Where are you catching them?
I have never caught a snake head but it looks fun. Good video
I'm dyin to go up there and catch a Northern, I live in S. FL we got the bullseye. I've planning a trip up there end of this year, any suggestions where I should concentrate my efforts? I found a few spots out of Stafford.
Love the hat in your profile pic....they are thick all over but id focus on still water in the backs of creeks
Just found you, love it, recipes for the snakeheads?
What rod and reel?
Had to double take the name change. Snakehead 101....rig up topwater frog....find thickest muck on river...cast frog into middle of muck...catch snakehead....about sums it up for me...LOL... I love snakehead fishing
Figured this had an interesting nickname sound to it
Is braided line a must for catching snakes??
Not really, a strong fluro will do the trick, for frogs yes braid...I've had them bite off 50lb braid on hollow body 🐸. But I've landed several on 17lb fluro and chatterbait
Finally a Marylander !!!! Dude why is the bite so tough right now !!!!! I fish from the bank and it’s been kind of horrible lol 😂
Dog days brother...i went the two days later and missed 3.
3 yrs later...lol. Was it in August you posted? It's been slow as Hell for me recently but that's just summer here I guess. Small croakers & med sized cats at night on live bait but day has been rough with lures. I read snakeheads around here may be spawning now too tho- gonna go lf fry balls in the yak
Do you fillet those suckers? Ive caught a ton of em here in Ark...never really heard of anybody eating them around here. They are fun to catch tho...well done brotha
I love them
..filleted them up!
wassup lou, wanna chase some on the tidal basin in DC
Have you had much luck there?
Had to stop a couple minutes in and say it's awesome to see ya having fun and laughing. I still giggle like a kid when I catch something I targeted and knew it would be there. I'm also glad to hear that you're eating those fish!! Here in Va. we HAVE to kill them upon catching them and report their presence to the DGIF as part of the law, so it's good that they're not going to waste. So many folks have said to me, "I can't believe you eat those nasty things." but they are pretty tasty no matter how nasty they look. Great Job Lou, this is a cool video!!
PS - Is that Nanjemoy?
Thanks! If you know the spot you know it ;)
Right on. Haven't been there in years. I had no idea how many Snakehead were in the river nowadays either. This was cool to watch! Thanks!!
That's a great boat. What's the make?
Skeeter 2017 zx250....incredible platform for the money. Bought it at Wiedas Marine in Kentucky.
What's the name of that boat ramp your using. Looking for a place to put in a couple kayaks in for snake head fishing
Friendship Farm Landing, Nanjemoy, MD
Where do you launch from?
Where was this
Which launch is that?
Wat kind of frog is that
Why did you change the name?
Just kinda of felt like it didnt matter and this soundsbfunny
What line are you using?
50lb spiderwire braid
Did you get the coffee out of the carpet?
Sure did!
thanks for the info sir
No worries
Great footage bro👊👊👊
you still fishing tournaments?
Absolutely! Got footage from 3 tourneys just gotta put them together
Any crappie up there?
Yup
VH F
Are those as good as crappie or walleye? Also what happened to Beyond the Bounds? That was a really cool name.
What area of the river is this?
Nanjemoy Creek, Friendship Farm Landing, Nanjemoy, MD
Where u get the weighted hooks from ?
Tackle warehouse
Beyond The Bounds btw what size ?
Id buy both...the pre rigged version comes in a 2 pack with a weighted hook...but buy 4/0 and 5/0...they each sit on the frog a shade difference....4/0 is a little tight of a fit but definitely works good
Was told snakeheads taste like walleye?
Hey Lou, I would have killed the Snakehead and ate the Bass. In Arkansas they are an invasive species. Wish you were fishing the Forrest Wood Cup in Hot Springs Next Week...
Bob its way way way better than bass
Lou, here we are supposed to kill them and report where it was caught to game and fish.
15 years of research say there non invasive and Virginia has taken them off there list just nasty suckers is all but no more harmful then bass just different
Bob, you are incorrect. It is perfectly legal to release them where caught anywhere they are established in the U.S.
In Arkansas! Dang!
After the strike, if you wait a few seconds before setting the hook you'll get more hookups.
I fully agree i lost soo many...ive counted to 5 sometimes and still not got the hook up
Need to invent a coffee maker for a bass boat!!
Did you change your name on TH-cam .
Yup
I almost had that same name. Lol..
I am snake head Shikari best catch snake head all the best
It looks like you changed your name on TH-cam beyondthebounds is no longer your TH-cam name did you change it on purpose
I did
Catch and release them. They are welcome and deserve the same respect that we give all other creatures. It's not their fault people are stupid but didn't do too bad with it
I catch and eat...and release the small ones

First
Fyi, keeping snakeheads in a live well alive is illegal.
You threw back a snakehead? Really. They are an invasive species.
