"Lenny" has always been my go to riff when I'm testing the clean tone on an amp. It's the perfect song for vibrato, chord shapes, and clarity without having to have another instrument. As much as I love it though, it's no secret, SRV never really found the actual tone he was looking for. The majority of it was in his hands.

Back before 1970 I went up with friends to Niagara Falls to visit/jam with a little band called the Pinkerton Colors. The lead player had one of those amps with a nice distorted overdrive sound. When asked about the tone he said he poked holes through the speakers with a drum stick. That was kind of a thing we did back in those days looking for the holy grail of distortion. He also had a little in-line booster unit that plugged directly into the face of the amp and it had a 1/4" female jack for the guitar cable. I can't remember the name of the device and Google has no idea what I'm talking about. Anyway, really sweet amplifier. Yeah, I'm over 70 and recently one of your new students. Music is Win!

Hey Win…I really enjoy your channel and your guitar playing ability. I’m an old-timer (74 years old) and I used to play in a rock band back-in-the-day. My reason for writing is to suggest that your Super Reverb (I had one) may be pre-CBS because there is no Fender logo on the grill cover. That would make it a 1964, or possibly an early 1965 while the transfer of ownership from Leo Fender to CBS was taking place. BTW, I’m a new subscriber. Keep the great videos coming!

I think this amp specifically shaped my ears growing up in the 70’s. This amp was on so many classic recordings, the scoop, the glass and I had a specific eq curve that I was always trying to recreate whether I was in my car, or on my home stereo. Sounds brilliant!

      @@Halliday7895 Wet/Dry?
You must have an auditorium to play in? I can only imagine. I’m trying to justify a 67’ Super Reverb in 1100 square foot house.
I usually play my 65’ Reverberocket -loud 18-23 watts(diode rectified)
Nice cleans up to 6-7 on volume and then pushes louder and raunchy. Not scooped at all-very mid focus with a lot of eq on upper/lower end frequencies -just can’t scoop hence the interest. Being rural, I just don’t get the chance to try many circuits out and wattage…wattage is a bit useless. I bought a Carr Mercury (new version)and you couldn’t crack it open without blowing you eyeballs back and the power scale left you wanting more. I’ve just bought whatever can get shipped so don’t really know how loud 40 watts is and if it is possible to get the amp purring without breaking eardrums or attenuation. Don’t want to sacrifice tone for volume so no to attenuation Sounds like you must have a big rehearsal space but can you coax out useable tones at “reasonable level?”
Subjective to age, genre and how much 80’s metal you injested in a Mazda B2000 in the 1980’s. Not old but showing some years we will say.
      Am I reaching to high?

I'm going to tear NYC apart till I find one!
What I found on the Trash: (in brand new condition!) PEAVEY RAGE 158 "Trans-tube" amp.
What I found for $25 on Craigslist list: Peavey Rage 158 AND an Epiphone Studio 10S.
NOW I'll hunt EVERY yard sale second hand store and flea market till I find one!

My dad loves fender amps. He’s got a blackface bassman and a dual showman, a dick boyden modded silverface twin, a Princeton 2(Paul rivera design), and a John landgraff built silverface super reverb.

Tyler, Johnny Ramones original amp and his main guitar is going on auction you need to see if you can get a way to play it like you done with the others

Supers are incredible amps, they even handle a 7-string with ease. (I find it has mostly to do with the 4 x 10 speakers.) The only thing that I hate about them is how much they weigh.

Super not convinced that the hollow body EQ adjustments you made were audible :)

That's my favorite amp. I had a 66 practice amp, I stoopidly sold to a friend and was forever regretful.

Oh good, another video where Tyler rubs our noses in the "I'm friends with Paul Reed Smith and you're not." ;)
    Seriously though, lovely amp.

      Paul has no friends….
He only gets product representation. 😆 He’s a sales machine.

I have a 69 that has been blackfaced. I separated the cathodes of V1-V2 to give them their own voice. Channel 1 is more like a Plexi. Channel 2 is just Fender SR. It has Weber Alnico speakers and it sounds wonderful!

Tyler: this thing is so versatile and can take just about any guitar
Proceeds to play mostly S style guitars including 2 different silver skies
