took me a few listens to really appreciate Joe's interpretation of this but I really love it...its almost like if he is another guitar player in Eds band..not stepping on his toes just playing a simplified version of the rhythm guitar but super tastefully and almost playing harmonizing chords at some parts...and the solo dances around Eds in such a nice way....the end of it is my favourite part when he chunks down on the chords instead of hitting the high single notes, the last chord is perfect
Satch is working hard at nailing it (with some joe style) and he is nailing it. Mad respect for Joe and EVH forever. Most qualified for the job. Love it!
Of course it was effortless for him to play the stuff that he came up with. Doing someone else's stuff always requires more concentration-especially if you are trying to re-create stuff note-for-note.
@@jackgilreath3113 Satch Having to Replicate EVH in itself would require Huge Focus NOT because EVH was a Legendary Guitarist ( which he was ) but more The expectation of it . EVH played it effortlessly because it was his own if he fucked up no one would give a damn or even notice . but if Satch or any other Guitarist covering an EVH song Fucked up even just Little bit There'd be a shit Storm of "He Sucks, why choose him" Comments... such is the human race.
One of my favorite Sammy songs from this era. You can tell, for the first time ever, Sammy is truly struggling. He has taken so good care of his voice and it has been so long, I just was in denial it would ever happen. So glad they are doing this though. At least Sammy and Mike will have no regrets.
It’s amazing that a player as skilled as Joe is obviously challenged by these riffs. EVH’s technique was so otherworldly than no one else can lock on to it, and he made it look completely effortless. As long as people play guitar, there will never be another talent like him.
This has always been my favorite VH song, or at least tied with "Humans Being." The opening lick and guitar tone convey such a manic energy, dropping down to a pretty minimalist rhythm during the lyrics. The tie into the "5150" tagline they adopted for the police code, but Sammy instead uses the numeric value itself to describe an imbalanced relationship. The outro harmony vocals repeating "I'll meet you half the way" in that high register. It's just musical mastery and they did it on their very first album together. I've always wondered why they didn't try to release it for airplay (maybe they did?). I'm so pumped to see this performed live on tour!
To my hearing it has no swing that EVH invested …. Not that I could do what JS does .. but it just sounds stiff n technically perfect that may loosen up in time …?
The youngest guy here is Jason Bonham (58). The rest are bumping 70 are over 70. I'm a proponent of knowing when to give it up, but I could listen to these "geezers" hours on end!
unreal good. Has to feel REALLY crazy and emotional playing these songs live for Sammy and Mike. That 5150 through F-U-C-K era was the prime of their entire lives.
Jason has that heavy and precise thud that made me love Alex's drumming. I may be speaking mostly for me, but what I loved about Alex's drumming was what I call a heavier version of Keith Moon's more is more style. I loved the tuned sound of explosive lower mid-range and powerful kick bass sounds that elevated everything. Plus, the apple sure didn't fall far from the tree either so his playing is always a homage to his dad's style too. Excellent!
Too damn bad Alex won't join in. This isn't a money grab. It's a celebration of EVH's work. Seriously, I don't think Eddie would mind. If he couldn't be there then who better than his brother to carry the torch?
Michael Anthony's backing vocals are second to none. He is still unbelievable.
"The Siren"
did he ever do anything on his own
Gotta love Mickey
He is the best backing rock vocalist of al time IMHO. WOW. So crystal clear and spot on harmonies.
Also, the young buck from Australia playing keyboards and guitar in the back was doing his share of harmonizing. Great compliment to Michael.

I'm looking forward to the Japan tour in September! I'll be going to the Tokyo show!!
Satch is having as much fun with this as any of us would! So nice to see. Sounds awesome :)
Killer guitar playing Joe Great job!!
Killer lineup. They all sound amazing. Thanks for taking us back to better days...❤
took me a few listens to really appreciate Joe's interpretation of this but I really love it...its almost like if he is another guitar player in Eds band..not stepping on his toes just playing a simplified version of the rhythm guitar but super tastefully and almost playing harmonizing chords at some parts...and the solo dances around Eds in such a nice way....the end of it is my favourite part when he chunks down on the chords instead of hitting the high single notes, the last chord is perfect
Satch is probbly the only choice to play Eddie’s parts. I don’t know if there is another guy I’d rather see take on this task…
Nuno
Satch is working hard at nailing it (with some joe style) and he is nailing it. Mad respect for Joe and EVH forever. Most qualified for the job. Love it!
Can not wait to see these guys In Toronto !! R.I.P Eddie VH this tribute is for you and you deserve it with all you have done for the music industry.
Gotta love the fact that sammy is tossing beers off the stage 😂. This is the perfect group for another van halen tour, so high energy!!!
Joe is an amazing guitarist and EVH is not easy to play. When Ed played it, it looked so effortless. Shows what an amazing musician Ed was.
@@justinlangley9522 Exactly.👌
Dannng Michael Anthony is absolute crushing it on the vocals!!!
Man that was awesome! Joe Satriani is killing it! That was easily as good as the original.
Joe absolutely killed it. On point with every song. Sammy still has it. Great show. Even with the rain.
Absolutely great!! A honor to the great Eddie Van Halen!!!
We are missing one of the great rock and tribute tours every day, by missing this
Hope they release a full video and live album! Tske my money! Please!!!
Tight, hard rocking, absolutely great sound. Love this, you guys rock!
Satriani is truly from another world. I really want to see this tour. I sure do miss EVH, but at least someone is out there honoring his memory.
Eddie DID say in an interview that Satch has VH in him 🤘🎸
1990 issue of guitar world magazine
@@knightfall9394 Yup! You got it! I still have that issue somewhere in the vaults. They played Eddie a Satriani tune and that was his response.
That is awesome - I didn't know that. Joe sounds amazing here! (they all do)
Looks like a fun show. I think Joes doing great. He's not going to have the same feeling as Edward, he has a different style.
To my hearing it has no swing that EVH invested …. Not that I could do what JS does .. but it just sounds stiff n technically perfect that may loosen up in time …?
Mikey sounds amazing and should sing Panama lead too...
The youngest guy here is Jason Bonham (58). The rest are bumping 70 are over 70. I'm a proponent of knowing when to give it up, but I could listen to these "geezers" hours on end!
While Joe is not note for note, wow, he sure as hell does this song justice. Awesome.
God, Michael Anthony is still an amazing singer. Did you hear that scream toward the end? Wow.
unreal good.
