    The Fender was by far the most twangy, and in the right way. I actually have one of those Vintage 50s, a 2011 in white, mine was supposedly once used for doing demo tapes for Taylor Swift :P
    Nice fat neck, but very thin radius, very vintage. And tiny frets which won't last very long. Sounds real nice though, remember Jimmy Page mostly used Tele on the early Led Zeppelin stuff. Actually, my Ibanez AZ feels a little like a Tele, but with modern humbuckers, tremolo, contour body and stainless steel frets.

    One thing I’ve noticed in the last 20 years when it comes to classic bolt on guitar styles like the Strat and the telecaster, thanks to modern manufacturing CNC and all that, the quality gap has definitely closed between the “cheap instruments“ and higher end models. That’s not to say you’re going to confuse an inexpensive guitar with a top tier fender, but those inexpensive copies are no longer pure junk and are actually quite playable and have a decent sound. Myself all my Teles are Squiers and they are fantastic playing and sounding guitars. I have two classic vibes, one of 50s butterscotch and the other 70s deluxe “Keef” style plus a mid 2000s regular Squier Telecaster standard with an amazing feeling neck that I modified with the hot rails pick up. In all cases they’re so good I don’t feel a Jones for an actual top tier fender version.

  • @theshadowknows6969
    @theshadowknows6969 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    In my opinion. The Tele platform is the best because the standard single coil set up always sounds the same no matter what guitar you get. Which makes it so versatile. You can make it scream, or make it sing a beautiful clean tune and everything in between. It’s a must buy for an advanced player. If you get it as a beginner imo it’s too hard to find the right tone. I didn’t like the Telecaster until I had been playing for 10 years. I’m picking up my first one today!

    Props to Donner, big time. For the sponsorship, and more importantly, their quality/value ratio. It's ALMOST unbeatable. Literally. I think in today's age, the smart, somewhat seasoned player knows that the drop-off from high-end guitars to the value brands isn't what it used to be, even 10 years ago. I kid you not, I have 3 Chinese Gibson copies, I guess we could call them advanced Chibson's lol, as they're more recently produced. But man, let me tell you. They're INSANELY well done, and the only thing you're not getting is high-end electronics, that's it. The flaming, the wood selection, the fret-work, the nut-cut which is KEYYYY to tuning stability, all just as well done on a Gibson, if not BETTER. I did a shootout with my buddy who tours, and his guitar tech was like, this is a deadly secret for Gibson, if this gets out in the mainstream... lol. I mean, look online now at the reviews, even from small channels where there's no monetization motives, and you can see, the Asian produced guitars are fucking fantastic now. They've learned, leaned-out the process and bureaucracy, and can offer $300+ landed SICK exact copies vs. $3,000+ for the real thing, which still in nearly half the cases have tuning or nut-cut issues lol ;p

    The butterscotch is much richer than the donner. They both sound great but the butterscotch tele has a noticeable sound difference.

    • @meadish
      @meadish 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep, there is a difference in sound. I also slightly prefer the Butterscotch, but it really is not that huge a difference. If we listened to the solid body Donner in a live situation or recording without knowing it was the Donner, it would sound just fine.
      I did not like the muddy tone of the Donner thinline humbuckers personally, but though the solid body sounded pretty good.
      The real difference (apart from just the premium price for the brand and the cheaper labor in China versus the US) lies mainly in the quality of wood, metal and engineering/manufacturing.
      Any guitar in the same price class as the Donner, when compared to the Fender, will have cheaper materials and less rigorous QA in the electronics and pickups - the frets are likely to wear a bit quicker because of using a cheaper nickel alloy, the tuning keys will be a bit hit and miss because the gears won't be as precise, time, the nut slots are probably not precision filed from the factory, and the body and neck are likely to be made of less expensive wood or of more pieces of wood, or the neck may not be quartersawn, since all those things allow cost cutting.
      But all that said, it is still true that if you give a cheap guitar a professional setup and maybe swap out some parts if absolutely necessary, the playing experience can be as good as a way more expensive guitar, or even better for you personally, if the expensive guitar happens to have a neck profile or pickups you don't get along with.

    What's great about Tele's?
    -You can hit someone with it and stay in tune. Ask Keith Richards.
    -Strings stretch out fast
    -Set ups are almost too easy
    -The middle position is jangle heaven
    -The bridge pickup into a fuzz (prefereably Tone Bender style) is fuzz heaven. Zep 1 style
    -They look equally at home for lead or rhythm guitar
    -They'll *never* neck dive
    -A good one will be in tune from last week's band practice

      As for the solid bodies, the butterscotch Fender did sound a little better (apart from the rounder tone, it had some resonant frequencies I liked that seemed to make it 'sing' a bit more), but I thought the Donner solid body had a good sharp sound that would work well in many situations, too.
