    These kind of performances are what marching band is all about. It isn't about trophies or awards, it's about community and putting a damn good performance for everyone to enjoy. I admire both of these bands for showing everyone what it's all about. It's a competition event, but the students and staff of both programs are well in touch with what music not a contest. I wish things like this happen more often.

      +Dy1ingGir4ffes I think they just may have set the stage for more of these performances by other bands in the future.

      +Music213 Santiago did this again with John Glenn at the Covina Christmas Parade. That was even more fun to watch.

      +Vince Lamb Oops. Different Santiago. This one was from Corona. That one was from Garden Grove. Still, interesting coincidence.

    In my three years of marching band reviews I have never seen this rare occurrence. Good job. That must of been fun.

    This performance by The BOSS and Diamond Bar was by far the best band performance I have ever seen. Congrats to both outstanding programs. It was a real treat for all of us who were there to support our schools. Great job Santiago and Diamond Bar! You guys showed some real class.

    I've watched this video over and over and it never gets old. What a great idea and amazing performance from two terrific bands. I wish we'd see more of these - it's musicianship and sportsmanship of the best kind.

    This was an amazing idea for us to do! Thank you Santiago for helping me end my last Arcadia band review with a bang! I had fun marching down the streets I grew up driving past, I will definitely look forward to future performances!

    Kent and I talked about it. Our students have been asking us to do it. We just couldn't think of when and how. This video inspired us. We will do it during that last stretch towards the stadium after the parade ends. We would love it if you could capture it. If you didn't know Kent was my student when I was at South El Monte. I left his senior year but gave him private lessons to help him get into the music department at CSUF. He's like a son to me. I'm very proud of him and what he has done at Santiago, he will likely be at Arcadia in 2 years. Maybe next year. His first 2 comps he didn't score well likely due to lack of uniforms that were late coming but he's proving he has what it takes. We are planning a slightly different spin on this idea ;)

      +Frank Hinojoz He's a great guy and is doing great things with the Santiago (Garden Grove) Music Program. I like that he looks up to you for guidance. The way things are going, I have no doubt Arcadia will extend him an invitation for his band to perform at the Arcadia Festival of Bands in a year or two. The future looks bright for this group. We'll stay in touch regarding Covina.

    This illustrates the affinity and kinship felt by band members everywhere. I haven't played in a marching band in a LONG time and I even feel the same kinship with these young musicians who put on a spectacular performance. Heck, this even choked me up a little. BEAUTIFUL !

      That's about what I counted. 21x20=420 musicians.

    I thought this empiricism was prodigious. I revel in it through the pain, (my shoulder felt like a Wookie was tugging at it) I was able to enjoy this new involvement. Bands should do this ofttimes. Fortunately, I was was able to be part of this unwonted experience. Thank you. Band directors Parish, Dudek and the directors of Diamond Bar.

    By the way, wouldn't this be a great idea for the Rose Parade? They love huge bands and the crowd would go crazy.

    Had Upland participated in this band review, they would have combined with Glendora to perform “Scotland the Brave.” If only…

    How did this happen? I would love to hear the story behind it.

    • @SimplyTrish11
      @SimplyTrish11 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +bdfan4ever Basically, 2 of the directors (1 from each school), have been friends since Junior High. When they figured out that they were doing the same march, one of them came up with this idea. They talked about it for about 2 weeks, and told the students, who were ALL for it. So that day, after Santiago went through the Rose Parade viewing, they stepped off to the side and let the other bands go by. When Diamond Bar got there, they joined in, side by side. Had a quick discussion about the roll-off, the drum majors did Rock-Paper-Scissors to decide whose whistle they would go from, and away they went. :)
