Actually on Team finals Kim Zmeskal was the best in optionals of them all. Considering AA finals was about just optionals she was still on of the favorites however it happened what we all knows.
Shannon’s my favorite at these games but even I can justify the 9.9 on beam. Scoring here was really wack. Basically just vibes-based and made even worse by how compacted the scoring range was for the top gymnasts.
how was this a 9.925? the step forward on the first and last pass? hello? but also, this was back in the day, so the deductions weren’t as strict as they are now.
Im wondering if the current gymnastics have been watched those videos to learn about artistically and technical skills. It’s notorious that quality of performance have been decreased not sure if for lacking of coaches or athletes have not enough practice.
Call my crazy, but I kinda liked it because it really made us pay attention to the finer points of the vault. It helped us separate the good vaulters from the great ones. The problem was the judging often didn't get it right...
It still upsets me they didn’t let Roza compete. Such a shame they lied for her and Shannon! Shannon should have been gold AA. Gutsu didn’t qualify but Russia was shady
I hear you but the deductions were different in the 90s. When someone threw such difficult skills, sometimes deductions were less severe to make up the difference. Not saying it’s right, but it’s how it was at times.
I agree. It was a different time in gymnastics. Nowadays, gymnasts can win even if they fall if they have enough difficulty built into their routines. Back then, small steps meant bigger deductions. Athletes needed to play it safe to maintain decent scores. Athletes that went for difficulty were not as rewarded by the code but the judges would give them the benefit of the doubt if difficulty was high by boosting the scores against gymnasts with a more conservative but neatly executed routine. The only exception was kyu Yan Yan in 97. After she did a clean full on the beam, she didn't win the gold, even though her routine was far more difficult than everyone else's in the final. This controversy led to the new scoring system, which encouraged athletes to shoot for difficulty but also taking into account execution. This led to more balance in the sport because small steps don't translate into major deductions, and gymnasts can compensate for mistakes by presenting harder skills.
Agree she was all over overscored. Kim in the other hand was underscored on vault. Her second vault should be higher than 9.95. her beam was almost flawless and just got a 9.912. Shannon's beam had many mistakes and still got a 9.9. Svetlana's beam also had a mistake however was awarded with a 9.925. higher than Kim.
Always amazed by the mental discipline needed to complete a routine after you fall off right at the beginning.
Boginskia is the best!!
27:32 Bog and Gutsu 🤩
Awesome uploading video.
Thank you! Don’t forget to subscribe!
@@worldartgym No problem I won't.
Svetlana Boginskaia impresionante, soberbia❤
Shannon Muller the best American gymnast so far ..

Oh man I didn't even notice the Unified Team coach was Alexander Alekxandrov.
Galieva floor and Zmeskal’s second vault were the highlights.
I love Wendy Bruce’s Yurchenko-full.
I really feel like Bontas had Lowkey the best meet at these games and was underscored consistently.

That and they blatantly didn’t deduct appropriately
There was things the scoring was both more lenient and strict on compared to today.
I think this was the best uneven bars routine Kim Z performed in her elite career.
Actually it was on AA. She was a flawless bars set however she scored only 9.900.

@@viviandiaz-felipe8137 two reasons:

Everyone was basically doing the same vault
That’s the early 90s for you
Call my crazy, but I kinda liked it because it really made us pay attention to the finer points of the vault. It helped us separate the good vaulters from the great ones. The problem was the judging often didn't get it right...
And there was an emphasis and necessity to stick the landing!!!
@worldartgym I would take some of the full twisting yurchenkos from this era over some of the way harder vaults we see these days with wild landings.
It was more exciting when a simple hop was a big deal rather than expected

Your only upset because you feel if Roza was there Shannon would have win.The better gymnasts won and it was not Shannon
This pepitas smells more rich in her time, now are and grannys 😔
Zmeskal's floor exercise was just cringey. That was so awful, with zero artistry 😂
Very similar to Simone Biles
24:02 she looks like ˝bikulja˝ (in my country it's a name for female bull ; bull = bik, even female bull doesn't exist 😂)
29:37 The collapse of Soviet Union
Prefer to watch Kerrie on floor
Look how thin and delicate these great gymnasts were then! Like ballerinas in leotards.
They were starved.
Shannon consistently over scored with all the bobbles and short landings. Plus she has zero amplitude on her difficult skills.
I hear you but the deductions were different in the 90s. When someone threw such difficult skills, sometimes deductions were less severe to make up the difference. Not saying it’s right, but it’s how it was at times.

Galieva's routines were average.
